I have seen Brother Halverson on some Come, Follow Me podcasts, and I have loved his insights especially when it came to word meanings. He sparked a fascination with etymology for me that has greatly enhanced my gospel study, so I really wanted to love this book. I just didn’t. It was far more basic than I was expecting given what I have seen from him on the podcasts. There were questions he asked as chapter titles that made me go “DUH’. (And he’s a teacher, he should know better.’ It was also hard because it was for the Doctrine and Covenants, but it didn’t really follow any particular pattern that I could tell. I was reading chapters all over the place. I will still give his other books a chance for future scripture study. I’m hopeful that they will be better.
