At first learning about SR(Semen Retention) through reddit I had undertaken many attempts to go as long as possible.

Many times of 1-2 days...a week...11 days..then recently I was able to make it 22 days. I felt better than I had in a long time during this time. Confidence, energy, posture, motivation all raised during this time. I can only imagine what will happen when I reach the full 90 days.

I'll be trying my own version over these next 90 days.

Things I won't be allowed to do: smoking/drinking(I do both heavily), tv/social media/video games(so much time wasted)

Things I'm pushing myself to do EVERY DAY: SR, cold showers+lake plunge, Journaling, workout, 30 min meditation, 30 min of reading, 15k steps.

Other ways of transmuting the sexual energy that wont be every day but probably every other day: TRE(trauma release exercises), Qi-Gong, WIM HOF, stretching, water fasting/dryfasting.

I hope to come out of this with a completely new outlook on life while improving myself in every way.

An interesting introduction to the topic, written as a self-help book. The main thesis boils down to the fact that semen (and sperm) takes a lot of energy and resources to produce. If it's not being expended frequently, the body is not at a constant deficit that it needs to make up. That energy can be redirected, and substances like zinc will be redistributed to other parts of the body. All of this is supposed to have a positive effect on male health and wellbeing. Interestingly, this was recognized by many traditional societies, but modern medicine can't stop falling over itself to encourage masturbation. Peterson does not delve into this aspect of why the globalist elites prefer men to be gooners and coomers who are weaker and easier to control. Who is behind the studies claiming that masturbation prevents prostate cancer, or that it has no negative effects? He debunks these claims, but does not peek behind the curtain.

At the beginning of the book, I got excited and developed high expectations. Still, after the chapter on ancient wisdom on semen retention, I was just eager to finally finish the book. The author does not connect to the reader, the writing style is dull, and the chapter on science feels like there was not even an attempt to make it enjoyable, as if he re-wrote it from Wikipedia in his own words.

Matthew Walker, in his bestselling book “Why We Sleep”, which is a scientific book aimed at the general reader and loaded with scientific studies, still made it very interesting; he added his thoughts and comments and expanded on why he thinks that. Joseph Peterson, on the other hand, in the course of this book, doesn’t do that well, he may add brief thoughts here and there without expanding on them, which also contributes to the lack of connection between the reader and genuine.

I think the author did an excellent job explaining ancient wisdom; the book might be worth reading just for that and the science chapter. The author had an optimistically biased way of representing the science.
I have glimpsed the scientific literature outside of the book. The science itself is insufficient to conclude semen retention or NoFap positive benefits. Still, the countless testimonials, thousands of years of eastern philosophy, and ancient wisdom do, and that would be enough. Not everything needs to have the “backed by science” label for you to believe it.

I don’t like that the author is an advocate of NoFap hard mode; he doesn’t even hint at the attempt to change your beliefs on masturbation and pornography, he just says to abstain from pornography for 90 days, and you’ll be free. However, in your mind, it’s still something you crave. And you’re essentially telling yourself: “I love this thing, but I have to say no to it for 90 days, and then I can go back to it.”

As someone who has unsuccessfully tried NoFap and had those countless weeks and months streaks, using sheer willpower and distractions, you must shift your beliefs towards the behaviours you perform. I recommend checking out “Quit Porn Easily” by Celibate Yogi if you struggle with quitting porn and especially if NoFap doesn’t work for you because it doesn’t work for most people. If you looked at the r/NoFap subreddit, you’d see countless of teenagers crying for help and agonising after resetting their trackers after a couple of days all the time, and just putting themselves through self-torture and guilt, filled with motivational posts and quotes to keep them going for maybe a couple of days till the motivation falls, and repeat! (It’s not even funny; it’s self-torture unless you change your beliefs, if you change your beliefs, it’s easy.)

Two chapters of the book are on NoFap, and the book is closed on thoughts on NoFap, not semen retention. It advocates for NoFap even though the book is on semen retention. As I said, NoFap is ineffective; he also supports all the methods “NoFappers” or “Fapstronauts” preach. “Oh, you have a boner? Go do ten push-ups! Take a cold shower!” You can only do this so often until you get exhausted. (That’s also why these fapstronauts just reset their counters after a couple of days.)

You HAVE TO CHANGE THE BELIEFS BEHIND YOUR BEHAVIOR. You have to change your habits, and habits are identity change; unless you don’t change your identity, your habits won’t change; if your habits don’t change, your identity and behaviour won’t change; it’s a feedback loop. I recommend reading Atomic Habits; it’s a good book about habits which can be very helpful to you.

All in all, I can say that the theoretical side of the book is valuable, but when it comes to methods proposed by the author, they are inefficient and incomplete, so I recommend checking out these other two books if you’d like to try completing your understanding.

As someone who practices long-term semen retention, I can confidently say it is life-changing. The physical benefits are undeniable, but the mental transformation is what truly stands out. The shift in mentality is profound, and it can completely transform your life. However, as a man, you must work extremely hard to channel that energy into something productive. Even a small 2 min lustful thought can lead to a release of semen, so it’s essential to remain mindful of your thoughts and harness the immense potential within you.

The energy from semen retention is not ordinary; it holds profound potential. To retain this energy for the long term, it’s essential to channel it into something you are truly passionate about—whether that’s studying, exercising, learning music, or pursuing any other interest. When you’re deeply engaged in something that excites you, it naturally absorbs your sexual energy. Without a clear purpose or passion, maintaining long-term retention can be incredibly challenging.

The best book about the introduction of semen retention I’ve read so far. Concise and covers the benefits of the practice in multiple angles with good research. Overall SR rhetoric is a bit shaky, and it certainly shows up here as well, but it’s really good in the overall ecosystem of SR literature

Every man and woman should know the mechanics of semen and the benefits of its retention. Regardless of religious persuasion, it should be a tool for every man.

This topic was new to me, as I caught my attention in Napoleon Hill's - Think and Grow Rich. Definitely recommended!

We are a nation of wankers.

I wish that was hyperbole, but I don’t believe it is. Smartphones, and the flood of free pornography they carry, have drained the vitality of America’s youth. They have trapped men in a vicious cycle of addiction and done lasting damage to their sense of love and romance. But perhaps the most calamitous impact of this state of affairs is the sheer volume of seed men waste.

I believe the best way to deconstruct this argument is from a purely Darwinian standpoint. Nature evolved to procreate. Our bodies grow and develop with the purpose of attracting a mate and passing on our lineage. Because of this, the body directs a great deal of energy and reward toward reproduction. When we lose our 'essence' through masturbation or sexual overindulgence, we trick the body into thinking it has completed its biological mission. But ejaculation requires massive energy to recover from. The body adapts by redirecting amino acids and vitamins toward semen production. And while it takes roughly 74 days for sperm to fully mature, most men never give their bodies a chance to replenish and therefore lose out on key nutrients, again and again.

When preserving one’s seed, the benefits are truly astounding. They include faster muscle growth, quicker recovery from injury, a deeper voice, better skin, improved memory, less anxiety, greater willpower, and a more positive mindset. These are things most men search a lifetime for. And when they seek to gain even one of these benefits, they are conditioned to consume. Rarely are they told to pursue absence. As the old adage goes, more is less.

It is also interesting to learn the history of semen retention. The practice was common in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda, where semen was seen as a man’s vital life force. According to the book, famous figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Nikola Tesla, Winston Churchill, and Mike Tyson all practiced periods of abstinence. While semen retention doesn’t guarantee greatness, it can serve as a powerful method for redirecting one’s energy.

Judged from a purely literary perspective, this book isn’t anything special. I also found the author’s recommendations about ejaculate-free organisms to be a little odd. But given how important this topic is, and the benefits it can offer to men’s health, I am promoting it to 4 stars so other men will be more inclined to read it in the future.

It's a decent compilation of the benefits of semen retention. There's nothing I strongly disagree with here, but nothing was original in it. I could look at a page and know exactly what was communicated because I had read the same information elsewhere. So, it's pretty generic advice, although, again, not terrible.

The author has a cute sense of optimism and a lack of self-consciousness, which is great for putting a book out there, I guess, but the level of thinking was very simple and I felt like I was reading a long, mediocre internet post. For example, he states that the theory of evolution boils down to the idea that the sole reason for our being is to reproduce. That's a pretty shallow understanding.

I don't want to bash this book too hard, because the message is great, abstain from masturbation, cleanse your mind, take cold showers, work out... great... but when you're writing about semen retention you should pay attention to saying things that isn't easily ridiculed. Suddenly, out of nowhere, he inserts a section titled "How semen retention increases your core strength" and then goes about how important core strength is to your general fitness. Okay... but why exactly core strength? Does semen retention increase the strength in my hamstrings? What about my hip flexors? What about eyesight and heart rate variability? It seems too arbitrary to just paste in a section of core strength specifically.

The most interesting thing I learned here is that Nietzsche said semen was taken up into the blood and one of the driving forces of the will to power.

The strength of the book is that it gives a historical context to semen retention, noting how many ancient cultures viewed semen retention as a source of physical and spiritual strength, and a compilation of prominent figures in history who practiced it. It's a good book to give you some motivation to try out the ideas, even though, again, the book is full of cliches and there's not much original thought here.

I read this after reading about the advice Genghis Khan gave to his sons about not spreading their seed. It is...pretty wild. It reads like a decent undergrad essay to me, and might be helpful for men addicted to pornography etc.

This kind of thing is in vogue online at the moment and this might be an easy introduction for those people who are curious.

Aside from being a little bit redundant, and data that seems a bit cherry picked, there’s a lot of valuable information here. Nothing that can’t really be found online but great info nevertheless, that helps reinforce the journey towards you bettering yourself through mastering (no pun intended) yourself through discipline. Quick and easy to digest, and overall really helpful!
