Bobby Flay - My Signature Dish!
I am a fan of the show - Bobby Flay has perfected the art of celebrity "chefdom" (if that's a word) and I'm all in. However, the television shows, books, cookware and whatever else he flogs are not worth a chili-infused cracker if he can't back it up in the kitchen. Fortunately for Bobby - he can.
The book has some good recipes and is well photographed. He tries to take a representative sample of recipes from both his side of the stove as well as the contestant. The show is a real competition - both sides are doing their best to win. The contestant has the advantage of competing with their signature dish while Bobby has been through the drill many times - and while his spin on a recipe may be different, he knows how to use and blend flavors and ingredients (and use the clock).
This is a nice coffee table book - I remember some of the episodes. One of the nicest parts of the shows is that it gives unknown chef's a platform to showcase what they can do and promote their restaurant in their hometown. Many TV chefs have come and gone - Bobby Flay is still here, a testament to the fact that he can cook, he can work under pressure and he continues to reinvent himself and his TV shows.
