Blaire’s got to be the only person on the planet who hates Halloween. At least the only person in her small town, which practically worships the holiday. Ugh. And it doesn’t help that her super-hot ex-boyfriend, Lucas, is determined to convince her otherwise by making her take part in “festive activities.” Apparently carving pumpkins and watching scary movies is going to magically change her mind about the holiday? Yeah, right.
But Blaire has never told anyone the truth of why she hates Halloween or the truth about why she broke up with Lucas. She’s definitely never told anyone about how much she second-guesses that decision. Being around him is so much harder than she thought, especially when it looks like he's starting to move on.
And when she gets a letter in the mail from someone who broke her heart, can Blaire overcome the negativity drowning her? Or will her bitterness and secrets push everyone she loves away?

What a relief I only have to wait two days for Sarah's new book to come out. I read all three of her books in January, and I honesty don't know what I'll do with myself when I finish the new one. They are my cozy reads. Hope she'll publish the next soon enough.
Yet again, Sutton created an adorable, emotionally-driven novel with lovable characters and fun energy. I haven't read a book that centers on Halloween in a long time, and I definitely haven't read one where the protagonist hates the holiday (for good reason)! While at first it's genuinely hard to figure out why Blaire would've broken up with Lucas, or why she's so miserable during Halloween, little by little the reasons come to light and make her self-protective stances understandable. I really felt for Blaire. She's much more bitter than Sutton's other female leads, but I hope readers will give her a chance since I love the emotionally struggling types. It makes their triumph in the end all the more worth it -- and this was definitely a triumph! Blaire's ending had me smiling and my heart full. I loved this cute holiday read!
4.75 ⭐️ Y’all!!! If the Broom Fits was so adorable!! Lucas was super dreamy, Donnie was a fantastic friend, and Blaire was someone to root for! The fall setting was also super fun, and the whole story had a very cozy feel to it. I read this book in one day and am tempted to reread it closer to Halloween... Sarah Sutton’s books have definitely moved up on my tbr! I would totally recommend this to anyone looking for a warm, cozy fall read with likable characters and a great ending.
5/5 stars I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Blaire hates Halloween. Halloween is a reminder of things she’d rather not remember, a pain she’d rather not experience again. When Blaire and her boyfriend break up, she decides to shut him out of her life. However, he has other plans, like teaming up with her best friend in an attempt to get her to appreciate Halloween. To top things off, a letter arrives for Blaire from the last person she wants to talk to. As her anger, hurt, and bitterness grow, she begins to become distant, isolated. Blaire is left to figure out what she wants and how to put her life back together; not to mention, she has to figure out who she wants in her life as well.
Okay, as most people know, Sarah is my favorite YA contemporary romance author! I’m convinced she can’t write a bad book! This book was shorter than her other two books, but I loved it just as much. I’m a sucker for all things Halloween/autumn so that definitely contributed to my love for this book! Blaire is super sarcastic and I loved her; I want Donnie to be my best friend, and Lucas is so sweet! As always, Sarah is a master of writing not just the main character and her romantic relationship, but all of the side characters and those relationships! While there is a lot of cute moments, there’s also a lot of hard, difficult moments as well. For example, Blaire’s relationship with Delia was one of my favorite relationships in the book. I also thought the concept of Gram’s business was cool and unique! This book definitely has me super pumped for Halloween now!
If you love YA, Halloween, romance, or are just looking for a short and sweet read, this is the book for you! And if you haven’t already, make sure you check out Sarah’s other two books!
I absolutely loved this book! Sarah Sutton is such a talented author, and it shows in all of her stories. I read the entire thing in one day because I simply couldn't put it down. And for fans of her other book, Out Of My League, you'll enjoy the little Easter egg when she mentions Bayview.
For starters, it IS the epitome of fall. The way Sarah describes the atmosphere around Hallow brought the entire setting to life. I'm so glad I read it just a week before Halloween.
The plot was pretty straight forward. Very cute and tied itself well to the setting. I enjoyed that the two worked together to bring up fall and halloween classics like corn mazes, carving pumpkins, and scary movies!
The characters are what brought this book to life for me! I've always loved Sarah's characters (I mean WALSH is PERFECT). But I found something new with this book. This time, I fell in love with our main character, Blaire, more than the love interest. I related to her in every way, from her personality, to her love for witch costumes instead of princess dresses, to her biggest challenge, leaving before you get left.
This book really pulled at my emotions the entire time. I really felt the pain and anxiety Blaire had, and it made my heart break with her situation with Lucas. Everything about If The Broom fights is real, raw, and perfect.
“Do witches ever get happily ever afters?” . Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cleanness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . This is a super cute autumn read. I loved all the October vibes and all the autumn and Halloween activities. I loved the journey Blaire went through and how she became a better person. It was really easy to see the conflict Blaire had and what she needed to resolve it. The resolution was done really well. Donnie was such a good friend. I love good friendships. Lucas! Lucas was my favorite character! He is so sweet. I love that he stayed with Blaire even after she broke up with him. He never left her, he stayed by her side and was so sweet and supportive. He is a really good guy. Also, the coffee parts. So good! This is a sweet contemporary book perfect for Halloween time. If you like Gilmore Girls, this is the perfect book for you!
I was kindly given an ARC of this book in an exchange for an honest review (Thank you, Sarah!). 'If the Broom Fits' is such a fun YA romance. I really needed such a book, so it was a perfect choice to start October with Sarah Sutton’s newest book that’s due to be released on 6th October. 'If the Broom Fits' follows Blaire and Lucas as they navigate their painful break up that for Lucas came all of the sudden. There was no warning. Things between him and Blaire seemed perfect… until they weren’t. I think what I liked the most about the story was that it wasn’t a new romance that we see this time in Sarah Sutton’s novel, but rather a love that’s still there even when the relationship is over (or is over?). And of course, the Halloween theme – definitely fitting for October! Full here.
I was sent an ARC for an honest review. Blaire Beverly just can't get into the spirit of Halloween, or even autumn for that matter. It's a good thing she has her best friend and (ex) boyfriend insisting on showing her the magic of the season! This was a sweet story of love and loss and healing set in my favorite season! Sutton definitely has that Hallmark grasp (everyone watches Hallmark movies, don't deny it)! I loved the characters, especially Lucas! He's such a sweetheart! This is one of those stories I wish went on a little longer than it did if only it was just to see more scenes between Blarie and Lucas! In some ways, I related to Blaire, especially after the past few months. (I don't hate Halloween though!) Overall, if you've been dying for a contemporary romance set in autumn, snag a copy of If The Broom Fits!
This was such a cute story! I loved all of the fall/Halloween vibes with the costumes, corn maze, and pumpkin carving! If the Broom Fits was a quick, fun, sweet romance. I loved the deepness it had with her relationship with her dad and think that was written really well. I really liked Blaire and her sass. She was rude and bitter but still fun. A lot of the characters were really fun and made me laugh!
My only complaint is that we didn't really get a feel for Lucas. I mean we did, but not really. Ask me what he was like and I could tell you nothing besides his eye color and the fact that he loved Blaire. I knew nothing about HIM and so wasn't able to swoon over him or anything because he was just another character, nothing personal about him.
That being said I did still really enjoy this book and will definitely be checking out more of Sarah's books, as I've heard the others are even better than this one!
I absolutely LOVEDDD this cute little Halloween romance! It was such an easy read, the pacing was great, the characters were all amazing, especially Donnie as the comic relief. I connected so well with all of the characters and I’m very sad I’m done with it 😭😭 I will definitely be recommending this book to any and everyone!
This was enjoyable! Fun characters, light plot…all the things I could want from a contemporary. That said…I had major issues with the main character because I couldn’t stand her. She’s the definition of a miscommunication trope. All she had to do was talk to someone. She needed therapy badly, in my opinion. Anyways, she refused and hurt a lot of people and wallowed in self pity before things finally went her way. So fun, but if this wasn’t a novella the main character would’ve driven me up the wall.
If The Broom Fits is another great young adult book by Sarah Sutton.
For this book however, I am struggling with actually calling it a romance. Yes, Blaire is struggling with her ex, Lucas. Yes, they clearly will end up back together again. And yes, Lucas makes for a fantastic young man. But, to me, this is more of a coming of age tale, as Blaire has to deal with family issues and her subsequent fears and insecurities. Blaire is dealing with how to handle problems with her father, and how to move forward with things.
When the story starts we don't know why Blaire has broken up with Lucas. The author reveals things over the course of the book. Personally, I wasn't surprised with the reason and had assumed that was the case early on. So, don't expect much mystery.
All the characters are likable, including Blaire and Lucas's mutual best friend, who is in an awkward spot yet handles it better than most teens would. Honestly, I was shocked at how much I loved their friend.
Also, if you enjoy Halloween, this read will definitely get you into the enjoyment of the season. The author spares no expense at illustrating fun Halloween events.
I absolutely love the way the Sarah writes. Everything flows wonderfully and I find the tone soothing. Her characters are always well developed and the storyline always intriguing. This one is no different.
If The Broom Fits is a worthwhile read. Sarah Sutton once again captures teenage life and drama in a way that is compelling and intriguing. At it's heart, this is a beautiful story, executed in a sweet, cute, and emotional manner. This book is perfect when you're looking for your next coming of age tale.
I related to Blaire so much on a personal level (to the point that I was able to guess the reason why she broke up with Lucas after only reading a few chapters because, let's be honest, I've felt the same way). Donnie was absolutely hilarious and the kind of best friend everyone needs in their life (plus, props to the girl having a guy best friend, another thing I totally relate to). I loved Lucas' persistence, perseverance, and overall kindness and loyalty towards Blaire. I love that neither he nor Donnie downplayed her feelings (and that Donnie called her out when necessary) and were basically just there to support her without overly trying to fix things. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a "Donnie book" in the future.
I’ve been so lucky lately that I’ve read some really compelling and good books because my itch to write a review has been quelled. Unfortunately, I did pick up If the Broom Fits and now have this stirring to write one, sigh. Before I start, let me say that I do LOVE Sarah Sutton. I’ve read three of her other books and enjoyed each one in its own way. It’s a testament to how much I like her as an author and person, because these are my not genre. YA and nonexplicit is quite the opposite of what I enjoy in a romance novel. But I do really enjoy and recommend her other books! Christmas as We Know It, Teaching the Teacher’s Pet, and Two Kinds of Us had a special emotionality and magic to them. I couldn’t put them down.
Which is perhaps why If The Broom Fits is such a letdown. This is the shortest book in her catalogue and meant to be a sweet, second-chance romance set at Halloween. Perfect for trying to cultivate the perfect spooky season reading list. Unfortunately not. This book lacks the sparkling joy that I so often feel reading Sutton’s books. This is one of the earlier books she’s written, so perhaps that’s why it stalls for me. Novellas are actually quite hard to pull off; they need to be precise, laser-focused, and tightly packed if they want to justify their length. If The Broom Fits is unfortunately meandering despite it’s short length and lingers in boring set pieces.
Let’s start with the plot. Our main character, Blaire, loathes Halloween. And two weeks before the start of the story, the day after almost having sex with the love of her life and boyfriend, she breaks up with him. Now, she’s miserable and bitter and pushing everyone away. Now, I didn’t hate Blaire, in fact, I found her interesting at first. Snarky and bitter girls are some of my favorites, but I’m disappointed by how little we were given with her. We find out later she broke up with her boyfriend, Lucas, because he’s going off to college at the end of the school year and she believes he’s just going to leave her anyway, like her father left her. And when she gets a letter from her father, it spurs her to break up with Lucas. This is an interesting plotline and one I wish was revealed so much EARLIER. Her motivations are so murky to us as readers, despite this being in close first person POV. We can guess at it, but her refusal to acknowledge it to herself makes her feel opaque and hard to know.
Her mother passed away seven years ago and then, five years after that, on Halloween, her father drops her off at her grandmother’s apartment and vanishes, abandoning Blaire too. I found that the way grief was handled in this book was lackluster. I wanted more from it and more from her grandmother as well. More attempts from Gram to see if Blaire would open up or maybe some acknowledgement of her grief too, even in subtle ways for the readers to see in subtext even if Blaire misses it or ignores it for her own grief. I understand, she’s a teenager, but it falls flat when this thread with her grandmother is not wrapped up by the end. It leaves the family characters feeling cardboard and one-dimensional.
As for Lucas, her boyfriend, I didn’t understand why he liked Blaire in the first place. She’s awful to him, breaking his heart and making him think she doesn’t love him anymore. Again, I don’t have a problem with that because I love a messy and broken girl, but I wanted to know why they were worked together in the first place. We didn’t get enough of their relationship. And the plotline of him trying to get her to love Halloween was dropped quickly, and didn’t make a whole lot of sense in the context of the scene where he convinced her to do it. I would’ve preferred to see that maybe he loves Halloween. It’s something he goes all out for, and for the past two Halloweens, he’s tried to convince her to love it with this list of Halloween activities. So then, when he suggests it again, it’s dripped in nostalgia and longing for things to go back to the way they were. But as they do them, the conflict and friction are that they can’t go back to the way things were, but they can deal with the root of the problem and come back together.
Which leads to my second gripe. Lucas is flat and boring as a character. He has nothing going on in his life except his family loves him, he loves Blaire, and he’s a football player. I would’ve loved to see him struggle with the fact that life is moving on. Maybe Blaire should’ve been his age, and he’s worried she’ll leave him behind for bigger and better things when he just wants to stay in his Halloween hometown and enjoy it forever. I wanted to see him have insecurities and his own problems. His own struggles. He felt too much like a punching bag for Blaire, and the addition of another girl hanging all over him didn’t make me feel anything. I knew he wouldn’t get with Hailey because he’s too in love with Blaire. Again, why?
The way I would’ve loved to see this play out was to axe the step-cousin/best friend character Donnie (another flat and boring character) and replace him with Lucas’s sister, Delia. She’s quite a bit younger, but she was a much more interesting character. Lucas could want to give Delia one last really incredible Halloween before he goes to college and isn’t with her for it, and he wants Blaire to help because she’s been a part of Delia’s Halloween’s for years. So, they take her to do all the Halloween festivities, and they fall back in love. They deal with their issues together, and it makes more sense why they’re in proximity to each other. It would’ve made the plot work better, and they could’ve connected over feeling abandoned and feeling like the person abandoning someone else.
I also want to gripe about the whole “almost going all the way” subplot that was haphazardly thrown in. I understand the goal is to keep these books sweet and non-explicit, but I think talking around it in this weird way made it feel out of place to me. Especially when the characters don’t grapple with what that means, if it’s going to be in the book, it should be discussed, especially in the context that I’m assuming Blaire is a virgin. Lucas probably is too. And how that probably was a factor in the way she reacted. There are a lot of missed opportunities for deeper conversations around responsibility, abandonment, staying stuck in the past, or moving for the future. I wish it hadn’t been included at all because it is brought up twice, and neither time is particularly interesting and doesn’t drive the plot forward at all.
So, ultimately, I found this book lackluster and underwhelming. While written well and with several interesting ideas, it feels half-baked. I can’t even say the Halloween vibes are enough to carry because it lacks atmosphere and nostalgic interest. So, I would find another book to read for October and skip this novella in favor of one of Sutton’s newer works. A generous 2.5 stars simply because Sutton is a good writer, even if this book misses the mark.
I picked up if the broom fits because I enjoy Sarahs Youtube Videos so much and given that the books are on kindle unlimited I decided to give them a try. It's fall, this book is the shortes so here we are. And yeah, given the rating I was not very impressed. It's YA but it felt like young YA for sure. Also it just got very boring? I hate the trope of "We can'T be together? Why not? Oh we just can't". I really really hate it, like I just don't get the characters motivations then. And when the reason was revealed I was like ????? really??? That's it???? Blaire needs a therapist idk how to tell u. Lucas was btw boring, the one thing that brought them together as a couple is that he knows her coffee order and they ALMOST had sex. Blaire also was pretty boring, I couldn't say anything about how she is as a person except for unstable? Ultimately I could have known that this book is a little to fluffy for me, still this book had a chance to be successful for me. I read a lot and really enjoy easy romances. This wasn't that. For the most part I was simply furstrated by them drifting further apart. This also wasn't a serious romance because her back story was so one dimensional (Death mum and daddy issues wow) If you are somebody who enjoys fluffy romances where the couple only gets together at the very end: This books for you! But for me, who likes to understand the characters, take sides in break-ups and see people actually having to work trough something to be together it just was very boring.
I adore Sarah's books! They’re lighthearted and easy to read. I love all her characters. Even in a short book, she was able to make me fall in love with all the characters. Blaire was fun to read through. I enjoyed seeing her flaws and insecurities. While the books are lighthearted, there are still heavier topics that add to the characters and the plot. I love that about all her books, and I think that’s what makes them so good. I adored Donnie! He gave Blaire some great advice and was an amazing friend. I loved him so much! I need a Donnie in my life. I’ve fallen for EVERY SINGLE MALE LOVE INTEREST Sarah has written. 🤣 Lucas was so swoon-worthy. 🤣🤣 His actions were so thoughtful, and it was refreshing to see him fight for this girl even when she pushed him away. There was nothing passed passionate kissing. There was mention of two characters going “all the way.” A few minor swear words. I’m 99.9% sure all of Sarah’s books are this clean, which is amazing. She’s an auto-buy author for me! It was a fall book, but I’ll be rereading it even when it’s not Halloween.
If you’re looking for a sweet seasonal romance, this is the book for you!
If the Broom Fits was a short read filled with the Halloween spirit, as well as deeper morals about love, loss, and finding your own happiness despite your fears. Mixed with bouts of lighthearted adventures and moments of self reflection, this is a story that I can see people of all ages finding a reason to love.
I did have a bit of a hard time relating to the main character Blaire though. I’m not sure why, usually I instantly adore all of Sarah Sutton’s characters, but I had a difficult time falling into this story. I was still invested in it, but not completely immersed if that makes sense.
I still really enjoyed it though, and due to the shorter length I finished it quickly. It was a lovely read for a cool fall night!
I only had one problem with this book. It wasn't long enough. I wanted/needed more of Blaire and Lucas.
I really enjoyed the story, the pacing and writing felt so nice and easy. I loved the whole, ex tries to make you love Halloween concept.
It was interesting reading about Blaire's trouble with Lucas and her dad, and seeing how she overcame both problems.
I loved Blaire, I thought she was a really sweet girl and an epic MC. Lucas was so funny, just the way he went about his "mission" to get his ex to love halloween was so hilarious and yet interesting.
I couldn't put this book down, and It was a nice read.
Sarah Sutton really has her finger on the pulse of fun teen romances. I have to admit that I prefer Out of My League to If the Broom Fits, but I think it's because that was my first read of hers and thus holds a special place in my heart.
In any case, I think what makes If the Broom Fits special is its Halloween theme. Her story wouldn't be the same without the backdrop of corn mazes, pumpkins, and costumes. It was so visceral that I was glad it actually was fall/Halloween so that I could walk out of the book and into my own corn mazes, pumpkins, and costumes (granted, at a COVID-appropriate level and distance :)) The whole Halloween aspect was basically a character unto itself and that's a sign of successful writing especially because in this case, Halloween was the antagonist (as the main character, Blaire, hates it), and we spent the whole book figuring out why Blaire hated it. I thought Sutton did a particularly good job at maintaining that level of angst. Granted, I didn't always understand her motivations and wished I could've had some answers/clarity sooner, but I'm a person who always reads the end first, so let's just say that was me, not her :)
As usual, her characters felt very real and were realistically teenaged. They battled the same emotions and drama that a normal teenager would, and I appreciate that. Though interestingly, while this book was about Blaire's relationship (or breakup) with Lucas, I felt like the core of it was more about her and the troubles she was facing in her personal life. While I enjoy a good YA romance, I also like when the character's life doesn't revolve around a boy, and Sutton did that. She made their relationship/reunion something for me to root for, but she made me more sympathetic with Blaire, and her problems at home.
If you're looking for something easy and sweet, definitely check this out!
This is not a bad book but it’s kind of lacking and I personally didn’t enjoy it that much, especially compared to Sarah’s other books.
I had a really hard time getting through the book and that had mostly to do with me disliking the fmc.
Yes, I get it. It’s hard to open up to people. Especially considering Blaire’s home situation. And I can even somewhat understand her knee-jerk reaction to shut down and break up with Lucas, but after this initial moment she is honestly just stubborn which annoyed me a lot. Adding to that that we as readers don’t even know what pushed her to do it until near the end made it really hard to relate to Blaire and to understand how she behaves.
She is whiny, negative and bitter and I think she should be happy that Lucas and her best friend forgave her for being that selfish. - Because other people have feelings too… When she started to open up and be more honest it got easier, but I still didn’t feel the connection to her that I would have liked.
Donnie and Lucas were great! But since it’s all in Blaire’s POV, she already was in love with Lucas, the story is very short and Blaire was so negative in the beginning, we don’t really get to know these two that well until about 70% in.
While it was okay in the end, I personally just didn’t like it nearly as much as Sarah’s other books and I would not read it a second time. - But I would read a story about Donnie who was fun and loyal and honest!
I really struggled with giving a Sarah Sutton book 3 stars because I love her books and her writing, but this one just missed the mark for me. It felt like it could have been so much more if for one the reader would have been clued in earlier and if at least one of the many topics would have been dealt with properly instead of just glossed over.
What do you do when you live in the town of Hallow, a.k.a the capital of Halloween and you hate the holiday?
Synopsis: Blaire’s got to be the only person on the planet who hates Halloween.
If the Broom Fits is a very quick, easy read that is perfect for an October read. The writing and characters were well written. The story line flowed really well for being a shorter read and I enjoyed the storyline. There is some referencing to teen intimacy that almost happened, but does not push my clean read standards (see my highlights for more information). If you are looking to have younger readers read this I would want you to be aware. Overall, the story was fun and has the perfect holiday flare for this time of year.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review of this book.
I absolutely adore Sutton's writing style. The only other book I have gotten to read of hers so far is What Are Friends For (I also highly recommend that one!) and If The Broom Fits did not disappoint!
Sutton is very good at creating main characters that really feel like teenagers, sometimes they are infuriating and almost impossible to root for. Blaire is no exception but in the best way. I found myself audibly speaking to her while reading this book, mostly yelling at her about what she should be doing. Being in high school is difficult without family problems on top of it, so it makes sense that Blaire's actions sometimes don't. A huge part of growing up is learning to recognize our own thoughts and feelings, as well as how to handle them. I really admire the growth that I've seen in both characters of Sutton's books. It feels very realistic and natural.
It was a little more difficult for me to connect as deeply to this one as WAFF, but this is due to no fault of the books. There is a heavy emphasis on family and less school/peer drama than I originally expected. I highly recommend this book to anyone on the fence, it's amusing and flows nicely. It's a beautiful book for Autumn, or just for day-dreaming that Autumn is here.
Definitely purchase this book in addition to Sutton's other works!
I’m a huge fan of Sarah’s work, and when I saw this book had finally been released, I was ecstatic. So it’s no surprise that I finished her Halloween romance the same day I got it. There’s just something about Sarah and her writing that makes the characters so real and alive, and this book is no different.
Blaire hates Halloween and the whole month of October, and she likes it that way. But when her ex-boyfriend Lucas decides to show her that Halloween is not stupid and horrible, she reluctantly goes along with it. Now, as things get tense between the two as Lucas and a friend try to get Blaire’s spirits up, she must face all that made her break up with the boy.
This is an intensely emotional book, full of angst that is so sharp, it will cut your soul. The characters are so very real, and I found myself getting attached to Blaire and her bitterness, Lucas and his cheer, and Danny and his weirdness. I cared so much about all of these characters, and I loved it.
If you’re looking for a good YA Romance, this is your book. Blaire is a delight to read about, and her relationship, or lack thereof, with Lucas and it was beautiful. With a clear, emotional storytelling that grabs your heart and won’t let go, this book will warm you up during the cool fall days. Recommended for those who want a good, fall-themed teen romance, this is the book for you.
Wow! If the Broom Fits has to be my favorite book written by Sarah Sutton. If the Broom Fits is about Blaire and Lucas. Blaire hates Halloween and she has a good reason for it or at least she thinks so. However, her super-hot ex- boyfriend decides that he is going to convince that Halloween is not that bad. Blaire has never told anyone the truth of why she hates Halloween, or the truth about her and Lucas’s break up. I liked Blaire more than the other girl characters Sutton had written before. She was funny and raw. I felt bad for her, but I also wanted her to get back together with Lucas. She had a hard life. I liked her relationship with Donnie, it was sweet, but I loved her with Lucas. Lucas was amazing and he was a huge part of the reason I liked this book so much. I loved Lucas! He was so kind and he didn’t try to push Blaire. He still loved her and it was cute to see him try to help her. He was a good friend first. I also loved his family. I don’t know what else to say, but I think he is my favorite guy character written by Sutton. This was a good book. It was such an interesting plot line. Donnie and Lucas were sweet friends. Blaire had to learn to trust Lucas, and let people in. I loved the character and the development they went through. Lucas and Blaire were such a good couple together. I would definitely recommend this book! If the Broom Fits is a clean YA novel.
I still enjoyed this book even though it isn't quite like Sarah's previous books in terms of romance. If you're looking for all the warm fuzzy romance here like her previous books, you probably won't find it until later in the book.
However, I'd consider this book more like a Halloween drama with a bit of romance. Still a wonderful read but I think the emphasis is focused more on family than romance which I don't mind. I still recommend picking it up to read but wanted to be honest and help set reader expectations in case you compare to her previous books.
If you're looking for all the Autumn/Fall vibes, you'll get it here. Sarah does a nice job incorporating all the fun things you'd associate with Autumn but doing it in an entertaining way.
I liked Blaire even though she's a bit emotional and bitter about Halloween, but understandably so, still she has a soft and caring side. I like Donnie, he's a good friend and third-wheel. I love Lucas and definitely wanted more of him!
Overall, a well written sweet story and recommend you pick it up if you want a short but adorable Halloween related read.
3.6 out of 5 rating for me!
