Which Village #2

Once Upon a Curse

Rate this book
Once upon a curse...

Once upon a time, Which Village was a great place to live. At least, that's what people tell me. Now, even though the witch who cursed the moon is dead, the town still seems to be under some sort of hex.

What's causing the strange problems that are happening in Which Village?

Who is the mysterious stranger who has appeared in town?

And most importantly, am I ever going to figure out the secrets my mother left behind?

Once Upon a Curse is the second book in the WHICH VILLAGE series. This book features female main characters who are middle-aged (or fast approaching it) and who have magical powers.

Jaden is back and it’s so much fun! Second book coming out of Which village and it’s exciting and very entertaining. Throw in some drama and suspense, a little romance and some paranormal romance and you have a read you will not want to put down.

Magic, curses, and spells…oh my! And I can’t forget about floating pies. There are floating pies, ya’ll!
Magic comes with a price and Jaden is experiencing it firsthand. The story picks up a year after book 1. This chapter in the journey also gives us a better view into Eliza’s life, which I love! Things in Which Village have settled down, but Eliza has been putting her heart into a new annual festival in hopes of bringing some tourism in that will help celebrate magic and the paranormality that is Which Village. Jaden is getting antsy because she is not getting anywhere with finding anymore clues from her mom’s testing and research, plus she isn’t getting any closer to finding her dead husband. Things go awry when someone from the deep dark past shows up and definitely throws some crazy spells around.
One of my favorite things about this series so far is the quirkiness of the stories. It’s funny, heartwarming, and has a bit of a thriller vibe too. The story moves fast so you experience many emotions and feelings pretty quickly. Oh, and Jaden’s character is made to be real. She is going through life with the same emotions and thoughts that many of us do. She is sooooo relatable and one of my favorite characters. I can’t wait for the next book because I can’t imagine what other twists and turns we will come across.

Figuring It Out . . .

Jaden has settled into the town but she still has to figure out what secrets her mother left behind. A new stranger in town adds more questions than answers. I love that the female main characters are middle-aged and magical. This lets them get in more trouble while still having the life experiences to figure it out!

Seriously, I like the humor best, such as seeing Jaden’s reaction to the apple pie that Fiona attempted to bake that was hardly recognizable as a pie. It looked to be a blob with crumbling bits of pie crust all over it. You can absolutely feel Jaden’s reaction in the pit of your stomach. Fiona said she had watched a video on how to do this, but evidently never noticed that she was supposed to peel the apples first. It was such a funny visual that the author created as you read the vivid description. I knew then that this was going to be an enjoyable book! So will she find out what's causing the strange problems that are happening in Which Village? Grab your copy and find out!

This was an interesting read. A dead mom, planned trip to tie up the estate took a turn. So many questions and so few answers! She's a witch and needs to figure that out and then there's the question about her husband's mortality status. Jaden really has her hands full of mysteries.

This book is well written with great world building and interesting characters.

I received this as an Advance Reader Copy with the hopes I would like it and review it.

Our heroine is still struggling to get a grasp on her heritage and her mother's past, but events conspire to keep her distracted. Can she reconcile the two and find a way forward?

This is book two of a new series. The book does pretty well as a standalone with all the essential bits covered early on.

This is a paranormal mystery, but not of the cozy type. The story is very well written and easy to read, with a complex plot and setting, both of which we are still getting to know. The characters are well done and definitely helped to give the story a mysterious, and somewhat foreboding, air. I enjoyed watching our heroine continue trying to piece together the puzzle of her mother's life and how the relates to her. That and the mystery make for a very engaging story.
Overall, a very enjoyable story and I look forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Highly recommended.

Once Upon A Curse is book two in the Which Village series. I love this series because the main female characters are more in my age group than my kids. I love that there is a life experience that they can severely doubt but a maturity that allows them to be open-minded about what is in front of them. As with the last book, we have drama, paranormal action, a hint of romance or lust, some suspense, a few twists, and a few laughs. This series is made for those of us who have made it past the childrearing stage of life and still have enough gusto to handle what life still has to throw at us! I love this series!!!

Jaden is back for another fun filled chapter in her life. She has settled into the town and loves but has to deal with a few mysteries about her mother and husband. Add in some new characters, some old characters and I got a fun filled story that made me laugh. Enjoyed trying to figure out how is all fit together and all the witchy stuff too. Jaden is a hoot and loved watching her do her thing. And laugh about all the trouble she finds so easily. Just a good story with a older main character and some mystery .

wish it was longer!

I really wish the stories were longer. A bunch of the book is a preview of a different book the author has written. I would love more of this series. The characters are so great! I want more of their stories.
