Famine grips the heart of the Cadwaller kingdom, but relief waits at the border. A caravan loaded with food and goods needs an escort. That assignment falls upon Tyber and Rius and the rest of their horde. The recruits of the King's Royal Academy of Dragon Riders believe themselves ready to defend the caravan, but they will find that the people of the mother city aren't the only ones desperate for supplies.
The final trial is ahead of them. But on the road home waits a lesson that can't be taught inside the grounds of any academy.
Hordesmen is the fourth and final novella in a serial spin-off set in The Dragoneer universe. Shorter reads for today’s fast-paced life, each book advances Tyber’s adventures with his dragon Rius in this dragon rider fantasy appropriate for most ages.
Famine and discontent grips the Kingdom. Food and supplies is desperately needed for the people. Tyber and his Horde finally get a chance to prove themselves as they are to escort a large caravan as their first mission. They are tested beyond measure as they are thrown into battle. They share friendships, loyalty, determination and suffer loss. This is what it means to be a Kings Hordesman! I felt the emotions of these young men. Their pride, their fears, laughter and loss. This is well written and gripping. Excellent storytelling, with a satisfying conclusion. Well worth the read!
The hord is sent to guard the first caravan to cone out of Seelia in months. The caravan master has hired mercenaries for ground cover. On the trip, one of the proctors gets sick. The next highest rank takes that place and his own riderless dragon trails behind. It is then that they are told some of the grey areas of alpha bonding with dragons. They run across issues, and they lose someone, but the caravan arrives intact. They're now full fledged hordsmen attached to the city weyr. To his surprise, someone is there whom he didn't expect, and it brings him much joy. He would still love to go to Aerona to join his family but is now bound to the city. These books are confusing. It says there b are only 4 in the series, but there is another series where the 1st 2 books have the same titles as the first 2 of this one. A chapter from one of those books is included in the back on this one and reads very much like it is part of the same series. I don't see a while lot of clarification. This is unfair to the reader
A very fine fourth book! I read it and was totally immersed in it. I hated to see it end.
The recruits come into their own. They are tested and then blooded. It was what they were trained for and it was inevitable and brilliant and terrible. There are more books to read, but not all the recruits will be in them.
Really enjoyed this series and very interesting people & Dragons. Continues from The Dragoneer series with stories of a poor young man and becoming a dragon rider. Can't wait for the next series!
I love the connection between the dragons and their riders, even Ren and his Stupid dragon! The story is getting more intense and exciting as they are progressing through training.
I have been complaining these stories are too short. At the end of this 4th, I realize these are novellas preparing for the Dragoneer series. I VERY seldom buy books, but I am hooked on these dragons. Vickie and Danny are an skilled writing team.
The reading was so easy, the stories just keep you involved. The biggest complaint that I have is that the books fly by. I hope future writings are longer, or there could be more books in each series.
Thank you Knestauts for making my remaining years on this earth with your dragon tales so enjoyable. Again I recommend your writings to my grandchildren and great grandchildren. It makes me happy to be able to introduce your stories to them.
A great story and valuable part of the journey for the recruits. Real characters that bond you to them as they meet the challenges and personal growth throughout the book.
