"Life gets so boring at times that only a vision of death brings the focus back to life."
Sukanya Swaminathan is dead. She committed suicide by jumping off the terrace of her building, while her son slept in his room and her husband worked on a high priority project in his plush IT office.

A good attempt...has potential
A potential that needs some more polishing...how did the inspector find out that Sukanya had killed Sangeetha? It was surely a gripping read but one needs reason and logic to solve a murder case. Looked quite juvenile though it was entertaining...

My Take:
2021 started with a bang in terms of reading for me. One of the finest thrillers read in recent times. The highlight being its kept very short and sweet but without compromising on the effect and the story.
Sukanya Swaminathan is a typical Indian housewife who is married in a traditional set up without being given a choice to decide whether she likes the guy or not.
There is a difference between knowing someone and loving someone. As years pass she feels ignored, unloved and unwanted. Suddenly she dies by jumping off her terrace. Acid is thrown on her face to avoid her face recognition. Who would have done that? Why would she kill herself? Read the book to find out.
The Inspector and his SI does an amazing job of decoding the layers of the murder/ suicide.Neat characters well etched story, crisp narration and on the edge thriller keeps you hooked and in awe when it ends.

Honestly, I don't know what to say. It is really unusal that I am out of words after reading anything. For all I can say is this book made me numb.
This is a short psychological thriller about a 43 year old house wife Sukanya.
I don't really have much to point out about this book, but one thing's for sure that the special thing about this book is it's simplicity. This is the story of me and you. This is a story of us.
There's a line in this book, "I was just playing with death. To amuse me. To feel better."
This was in the first paragraph of the book, and that's it. I knew that I will be glued to the book to the very last page.
I really liked how the chapters were alternating after one another.
Another really good point about the storyline of the book was it knew where and how to use humor.
The only thing that I feel could have been better is that by the time I was half way through, it felt a bit streched for no reason.
Characters and Narration : The protagonist of the book, Sukanya was the first person and that really held the story together.
All the characters were pretty well developed and everyone had a role to play to make the story what it is. However, I would have loved something more on Muniamma the house help.
Title and cover : The title is the absolute best fit for this book. Short and interesting.
Language : Pretty easy to grasp. Even if you are a beginner, you will be able to read it quite easily. Very smooth and lucid.
Would I recommend?
If you are into psychological thrillers then hell yes. You will love this whole book and even if you are new to this genre this will be a good one time read!

"The Death of Me" seems to be like a spicy bite from a much larger, more gripping thriller. It starts off with a suicide (or maybe a murder) and from then on, there's no going back in terms of thrill, drama and suspense.
In spite of being very short, the writing calls for rapt attention. The narrative switches between flashbacks and present day investigation proceedings, and out sprouts the story. Much like a puzzle coming together, the events fit almost in hindsight, until the climax comes and the whole picture gets clear like a sudden crash of thunder.
The mystery element of the book is reasonably arranged well, crafting a fine balance between smooth flow and a consistent storytelling charm. There's always this urge to know more, that drives the story and steers it around realizations, perspirations and doubts. An acute sense of human insecurity and envy sneaks in from every corner and gives the story the fuel it needs to flourish.
"The Death of me" could also have had a little more sense of practicality, or some more connect-the-dots elements that could assist the plot build up. The psychological aspect to the story was not invisble, but often went undercover. It was there, but sometimes in the background away from the prying eyes. The investigation procedure required more insight and visibility.
With the number of pages acting as a slight deterrent, this short thriller gives us what it had promised to give. It does come about to be largely lifelike and jagged.

Hands down, one of the author's best works! I loved how in less than 50 pages, the author managed to weave a story that will keep you guessing till the very end and will completely blow your mind with it’s clever climax twist.
Sukanya Swaminathan was married off to a man whom she liked but was not particularly attracted to. Twenty four years of her marriage has made her feel unloved and ignored by her family and she finds life fixed and uninteresting . And then, suddenly one night Sukanya dies by throwing herself off her terrace, after burning her face with acid. But why would someone burn their face before attempting suicide?

The story is narrated in the form of POVs, of Sukanya and the two policemen conducting the investigation of her death. The story has a plot twist that you never saw coming. The entire book is riveting throughout and if you want a good, fast-paced psycological thriller, just go for it.

The story is developed around the death of protagonist, Sukanya Swaminathan. She is a mother and wife and is in her late forties. As she had an arranged marriage in which she didn't have any say in choosing her life-partner.
She likes her husband but not particularly attracted towards him. With time, her marriage and life feels soulless to her. But is it reason enough to end her life my jumping off her apartment whilst her son is sleeping and husband is in office due to some pivotal project. May be..
But the only problem is that her face is burnt with acid. Why would someone burn themselves with acid before committing suicide?
What an amazing story!!! With just fifty odd pages, the author has created magic. Such a fast-paced storyline. I just loved every bit of it. And the ending..my God.. unbelievable. I didn't see that coming.

I just loved the story, the way the author described all the things in a very witty manner. The characterzation is just amazing.
The language is simple yet lucid.

Very unique!
Thanks to the author, the story plot keeps you hooked, though the book is only of 48 pages. It's a commendable job by the author. Intensity of the suspense is intact.
Sukanya is found dead in her apartment. Her face is burnt with acid and that causes the police to suspect it to be a murder rather than a suicide. Sukanya's best friend Sangeetha is not to be seen from the day Sukanya is dead.

The Death of Me. It was such a brilliant short read. It is just 42 pages long, but it has amazing quality. It felt as if I was watching a short film rather than reading a book, the writing makes you feel as if the characters are right in front of you. Just when you will feel as if you know what is happening, it will throw another curve at you. Brilliant short read!

Sukanya Swaminathan is a housewife with a seemingly perfect life. Her marriage of 24 years with a husband she cares about and their loving son are proof of that. To society, they appear to be the ideal family. But suddenly on one night, Sukanya commits suicide. Why would she do that? Is it suicide at all?
What I liked about the book:
--> The story towards the empty and meaningless existence of many housewives in India who are taken for granted by their families and feel unloved/unwanted in their own homes.
--> It is a quick read that can be finished in a single reading of an hour max.
--> You know there is foul play, but you won't be able to guess the truth.
--> The story keeps you hooked till the end.
-->That the story is narrated in the form of POVs, of Sukanya and the two policemen conducting the investigation of her death.
--> The USP of this book is its simplicity. This is the story of me and you. This is a story of us.
--> The dark and sometimes silly humor.
What I did not like about the book:
--> The conversations between the two inspectors are confusing and felt beating around the bush at times.
--> The characters of the neighbors and their illicit affair seemed important to the plot. I wished they were explored more.
--> The book felt a tad costly for the length which is just 53 pages.
--> The suspense becomes kind of a giveaway after the first few chapters (but this could be just for me because I have read so many thriller books)

This book is a kind of short movie for me and I really enjoyed guessing at each aspects. the story leads with a suicide/murder of a 45year old woman, housewife by profession.
She was married whom she liked but not loved. Unlike other marriages where some relationship goes forever, for her everyday, everything seemed boring and she lost interested in her marriage.
Suddenly, she committed suicide or we don't know whether it's a well planned murder. Even if it is a suicide why will anyone burn their face? But if it's murder then why will everything looks like it's a suicide happening?

Should You Have Read Even A Couple Of Books Penned By Chitrangada Mukherjee Be They Outright Indie Romances That Warm The Hearts Of Mushy Diehard Readers Who Instantly Connect With Such Feel Good Romances Or Edge Of The Seat Suspense Reads Where It’s Hard To Pinpoint What Can Come Up Next When You Least Expect It And In Which Direction It Could Lead The Reader Till It Wraps Up In A Satisfying Climax Or Those Thumping Whodunnit Psychological Thrillers That Leave No Room For The Reader To Get Distracted Leave Alone Bored Not Just Because Of The Tightly Knit Plot But Also The Characters With Which The Readers Can Connect As They Not To Far Fetched But Those From Around Us Making Them So Much More Relatable.

The book is a short novella that explores the human nature and the basic human emotion of love and jealousy. The plot is tightly knit, and the storytelling is quite powerful. Narrated in parallel timelines of past and present, the suspense is maintained till the very end. The concept of the story is very well thought of and the execution is good. I liked the conversations that Nair and Raman have, making it an interesting aspect in the plot. I would have like a bit more suspense in the plot and the unravelling could have been delayed for a bit. I also would have liked to see a bit more of the story of Sukanya and Sangeetha as well. The climax is good and well executed.
Coming to the characters, Sukanya as a character has been sketched nicely, with some very unique elements of her character inbuilt which add the edge to the plot. The parallels between Sukanya and Sangeetha were quite eerie, and I loved how that culminates into the plot. Nair and Raman each have their own quirks that add a flavor to the story with a little dance that they do while investigating.

Mind-blowing
The story is developed around the death of protagonist, Sukanya Swaminathan. She is a mother and wife and is in her late forties. As she had an arranged marriage in which she didn't have any say in choosing her life-partner.
She likes her husband but not particularly attracted towards him. With time, her marriage and life feels soulless to her. But is it reason enough to end her life my jumping off her apartment whilst her son is sleeping and husband is in office due to some pivotal project. May be..
But the only problem is that her face is burnt with acid. Why would someone burn themselves with acid before committing suicide?
What an amazing story!!! With just fifty odd pages, the author has created magic. Such a fast-paced storyline. I just loved every bit of it. And the ending..my God.. unbelievable. I didn't see that coming.
If you are up for a mind-blowing psychological thriller, just go for it.

This was the first time I'm reading the book of this particular author and trust me it was worth reading.
Sukanya swaminathan was married to a guy whose she knew but dint loved. But as a so called old tradition she was not given a choice and she finally married.
Still she thought that everything would be fine but opposite happened. Everyone started ignoring her, disrespected her. But still she resisted all this.
As time passed, after 24 years of their marriage she jumped of her terrace taking her own life. She was so fed up that she took a step of suicide.
But is this everything?
The women who controlled or who resisted all this can suddenly take such a big decision?
Let me tell you one thing that before jumping off she put acid on her face?
Is it possible to do such things before suicide?
Was it a suicide?
For all answers a inspector starts investigation and the journey starts...

Read a good psychological after sucha long time. Honestly, it's short read but everything is so well explained. There is no bluff and at no point would you feel bored. The background of the character is also thoroughly explained for a short read.
The start of the book is brilliant. It actually gave me goosebumps. The name of our protagonist is Sukanya and the story revolves around her married life, best friend Sangeeta and one incident that destroyed 2 families completely.
The end is sure to mesmerised you! The twist and turns till the end really keeps you curious and hooked. It was a really good read. Well written plot!

The Author managed to weave a story that will keep you guessing till the end and will completely blow your mind with it’s climax twist.
Sukanya Swaminathan was a typical Indian housewife who was married in a traditional set up without being given a choice to decide her partner. There is a difference between knowing someone and loving someone. As years pass she feels ignored, unloved and unwanted. A good thriller must keep you guessing until the end. This is one of those short novellas that keep you second guessing until the end. Now I had already deduced what had transpired, but I was wondering about the actual identity of the victim until the end.
If Sukanya's narrative wouldn't have been there, this story could have been delivered as a full length novel. I would really like to read a book where Sukanya's story was delved into even further.
The author has narrated the story excellently. The bond between the Inspector and the SI was amusing and could be the start of a good mystery series.

#TheDeathofMe...The story is bit interesting. It keeps you hooked till last. The story is well sequenced and explained. The language/vocabulary used is quite simple, easy to understand and approaching. It's an easy read fir beginners.

The Death of Me by Chitrangada Mukherjee is a murder mystery thriller revolving around the death of a housewife named Sukanya Swaminathan. It appeared to be a case of suicide at first with only one contradicting fact, her face is burned with acid. The subsequent investigation is leading us to the unknown face of Sukanya.
This is a fast-paced crime thriller. The author doesn't drag anything in this story. It is carefully planned and penned. The suspense was slowly unveiled and we cannot guess the end till the very last page. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Usually, a thriller book contains the highest number of pages. Especially if we consider reading bestselling thrillers. And it becomes difficult for beginners to get started with this genre. But surprisingly I found this book, which is very short yet filled with everything that a psychological thriller needs.
I don’t want to reveal the story here but trust me the narration and the way the author reveals the story is just amazing. It is narrated in a unique way where both stories of present and past reveal at the same time. Worth reading. I would like to rate it 5 stars.

A psychological thriller with a beautiful narration. This is short, deep and engaging. U won't stop once u started reading. I really enjoyed.
Sukanya Swaminathan is dead. She committed suicide by jumping off the terrace of her building, while her son slept in his room and her husband worked on a high priority project in his plush IT office.
