Ruble Perkins leaves his home in the Georgia mountains in 1868 heading west. He links up with Jonas Millett, and the two of them seek jobs as Deputy U.S. Marshals for the Western District of Arkansas. Neither has any experience in law enforcement, but they accept one assignment after another to capture outlaws in Indian Territory. It's the story of two young men in the early days before Judge Isaac Parker arrived to bring law and order to Indian Territory. Another novel of the Old West by R. O. Lane.
Ruble and Jonas goes above and beyond in their ongoing effort for justice!
Another outstanding five star masterpiece by one of my favorite Authors! This strongly motivated western series of ongoing exciting extravaganzas will grab your undivided attention immediately, and the excitement only intensifies with each new encounter! Definitely no slow down once these two Deputy Marshals gets on the trail of those responsible for their misdeeds! Once again, Mr. Lane's outstanding storylines will grab your undivided attention immediately and the excitement never abates from beginning to the last episode has been read! Too, the exciting character selections could not have been better selected for their responsible roles! Most definitely recommend this outstanding series of one exiting gunfight after the other! These two you Deputy Marshals are unsurpassed in carrying out their responsibilities, never questioning their respective assignments! You non-western readers will definitely be appeased immediately, and your undivided attention is assured immediately and only intensifies with each new episode!!!
This story was not only fun to read it was heartwarming in so many areas. You won't find in-depth character studies, or the depressing focus on the down-trodden of the classics, but you'll find good hearted justice, loyalty, and love woven into an action packed story of the post Civil War era.
I would rate this book as PG. The more conservative might make it PG-13. There is very mild language, shooting and non-gory killing,, and talk of murder and rape, but no porn or overt sex.
I recommend this book. (Read with Kindle Unlimited subscription.)
Another wonderful tale by my favorite author. I was checking my emails daily waiting for Mr. Lane's latest novel. He has never disappointed, and I loved every minute of this one. It is so refreshing to read about main characters who are strong, honest, loving, compassionate, and non-judging. Combine that with some history and an exciting story and you have another 5 star winner.
A mature young man and a young black man head west and prove themselves over and over as US Deputy marshals. Ruble is 17 and Jonas 20. They made a great team, were great friends, and captured many outlaws. Many adventures and rescues. I love how the author has many rescues of innocent children who have become orphans in his books. Always great horses to!
R.O. Lane continues to write good westerns. Ruble Perkins leaves home in Georgia and heads West he meets Jonas Millett and together they become two of the youngest Deputy U.S. Marshals in the State of Arkansas. I really wish R.O. Lane would turn this into a series, should be some more good stories about these two.
Liked the story took away from the present situation (coronavirus)without my books life would be rather rough the tv does’nt interest me so much load of rubbish mostly so my reading especially westerns take my mind off to the plains of the west so folks off to find another book ,take care be safe
I am always checking for a new book from Lane. He is a prolific writer that continues to produce enjoyable western tales. His books portray men who are caring and compassionate, but can handle the outlaws and evil men of the old west. I sure hope another book is on the way soon!
It was easy to get wrapped up in the story. Is it a wonderful book about two young men who grew up quickly. Every month I look for new releases from Lane and Petit. The world would be a better place if there were more writers like them. After you finish reading this book you wish it was longer. And that’s the sign of a good book IMHO....
Ruble left home in the blue ridge mountains of Georgia when he was only 17. He started walking and walked most of way across Tennessee where he saved a man's life. There he met Jonas, a young black man, and they became friends and partners. Great book and I enjoyed all of it. Good author.
I think this is one of the better books by this author. I really enjoyed it. If your looking for a book that will keep you interested from the first page.to the last try this one for size. It is all about life right at the end of the Civil War. The animosity towards the blacks was horrible and this is a story about one man felt and handled it.
As you know, the Indian nation in Oklahoma was outlaw in. This gdeat
A great read about two young Marshal!s sent into the Indian nation To find and arrest bad outlaws and restless. There is also a great story about their personal !I've as well. I really enjoyed reading it
Another great book. Ruble is a remarkable young man.
He does what is right even though he is young. He goes beyond what is expected to help people. He does not judge what is not a person's fault. He always gets his man though not always without personal harm. Highly recommended for all readers.
This was a powerful story that covered the "Nations" and every other place in the west. Ruble was an honest and forceful marshal, his partner Jonas by his side and at times ahead. Trials and tribulations were the name of the game, and the two came through it all in fine shape.
I am a little prejudice because As a boy I was raised in the same area that is talked about in the book. I had many Cherokee Indian friends. The author makes the book come to life with the reality of the pains of growing up. It shows that in helping others you really help yourself.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It had a great story line. I liked how story started out with Ruble as young man with nothing and how his goodness in helping people help him to develop into a very great man. I greatly enjoyed the book of Wilbur. I thought it was a very good book.
I have read several of R. O. Lane's books and he never disappoints! Ruble Perkins is one of my favorites, now. Lane is especially skilled at writing excellent dialogue and developing outstanding, believable characters.
I can't wait to finish this review and get on with the next R. O. Lane western novel!
Marshal Perkins is the best new western character from this author. ‘Youngest Marshal’ is a great story of people moving west in the post civil war era, making life on their own and delivering the ‘help thy neighbor’ spirit which made America great.
Great book that once again captures my attention resulting in staying up late reading to completion. I wished that I read this book before reading Wilbur so I’d have the connection. Ruble raises the bar when it comes to justice, right and wrong and being a role model for Wilbur and Jonas.
Loved this nod to the younger but gutsy man, and his black sidekick. Great duo that learns the ropes of marshaling while having to confront the worst of human scum. Includes a good woman who has faced cruelty but is a fearless one to ride the river with. Lane's pacing and feel for reader interest is impeccable. Definitely some L'Amour influences here with a well-established style of Lane's own. Cheers to another good read! PKB
R. O. Lane is one of my two favorite living western authors. His characters are always believable, honorable and interesting. The stories are interesting and well developed. The Youngest Marshal is no different. I always buy his books because I know that I will read them again.
Another great book by R.O. Lane. He keeps writing new books that grab you from the first word. As soon as they become available i have to have his book. I just think he is the best.
Always good action, just enough romance, historical authenticity, and no offensive passages. R.O.Lane is my go to western author without hesitation. I've never been disappointed and have read every western he's written! Can't wait for the next one!
Great read about a young man barely old enough to be on his own and a freed slave, both become deputy marshals, have harrowing journeys, and survive. Wonderful story. Highly recommended.
R.O. Lane osmond of my favorite writers. I always look forward to the goodness of is books and the great western backdrops that takes you to the place were right and wrong pevale. Excellent read.
Another great western story by R O Lane. Two young men really boys of different backgrounds find themselves headed west. Their very first job and following adventures make a awesome story.
Ruble is a sweet kind man who has so much love and compassion for others. His whole life is about helping good people but bringing bad people to justice. R. O. Lane is a great story teller. I have read every book he has written.
Two friends grow into men of strong will and show results of good character in all their actions. Neither bends when it would be easier to give into attacks because of racially motivated situations. Strong believable plot!
I enjoyed reading this book. It has been awhile since I read a western having been spoiled with Louis La'moure novels. But with this one I really liked the whole story and writing style. I recommend reading it.
