A U.S. Army veteran and rising star in the conservative movement makes the case that the United States should look to the country as it was on September 12th, 2001 for lessons about our future.
On the day after the World Trade Center was attacked, Americans came together regardless of race, religion, or sexual orientation. We were united. On that day, nearly every store in the country sold out of American flags.
After the events of the last eighteen months, from the Covid-19 pandemic to the constant attempts to divide us by race, Graham Allen believes that we should all look back on the events of 9/12 and remember what unites us. He believes that we do not all have to be the same, that it's okay not to agree on everything, but that we share a common history and a set of values.
Just as the year 1776 serves as a reminder of our beginning, 9/12 will serve as a reminder of our present and future.
Professor Graham Allen joined the School of English in University College Cork in 1995. Professor Allen has published extensively in the fields of literary and cultural theory and on subjects within Romantic literary studies. Professor Allen is Distinguished Visiting Fellow of the London Graduate School, a member of the Advisory Board of The Oxford Literary Review, a publishing poet and a regular book reviewer for The Sunday Business Post. The title poem of The One That Got Away won the 2010 Listowel Single Poem Prize and the collection has been shortlisted for The Crashaw Prize (2013), the Fool for Poetry Prize (2014) and the Strong/Shine First Collection Prize (2015).
Love Graham but the writing and ideas in this book were all over the place, not written or edited well. Not the book to recommend to others on this subject- would favor candace owens Blackout for that
I don’t even own this book yet but just the description makes me want to read it. Live like it’s the day after 9/11…what a great idea. We were all functioning as a truly united country regardless of our individual issues. Black, white, rich, poor, we were all Americans first and isn’t that a better way to run a country.
Living like its 9/12 the way to fix America is by realizing that, as Americans, we are all different-we are never going to see eye to eye on one thing, and that's the fact that we are Americans. Believe in America. We as Americans stopped believing in America. We are scared to say what we believe in. Our biggest concerns are 1. Me 2. Myself 3. I. During WWII our the biggest significant factors in our lives were: 1. Faith 2. Family 3. Freedom 4. Community 5. Less government/more guns. But unfortunately now our concerns our 1. Ourselves 2. "Free" money from the government 3. Free medical care 4. Your truth, not the truth 5. Student debt forgiveness. We need to get our values back as Americans. But the only way to do that is to that action! God bless the amazing country called the United States 🇺🇸 🇺🇲
As an avid Graham Allen fan since his first Dear America rant, I knew I had to get my hands on this one as soon as it released.
Let me first start out by saying, if your views don't at least somewhat mirror Grahams you will more than likely hate this book. Typically you read what interests you so you can't give this book a bad review simply because you don't agree with conservative views. Why pick it up in the first place? I don't read a romance novel if I despise the genre.
However, my views do mirror Grahams and I found this to be very informative and eye opening on many levels. This book is a thorough look into the dumpster fire that our government has become due to our absolute negligence as Americans. How we have become the epitome of everything our fore fathers tried to fight against and what we can do to take back this country. I loved the context, I love Grahams passion and fight for our country. I did however have a slight issue with the writing.
Graham is a talker, a fast talker. He does it for a living. I think sometimes his brain works faster than his mouth and or his fingers while typing and his point gets clustered. This book kind of gave me a little whiplash. It starts out on a strong topic and then veers off course quite a lot. There are a lot of repetive points and a ton of typos and grammatical errors. As an avid reader, I admit this drives me slightly nuts. 🤪 I think the editor just DGAF on this one. While it didn't take away from the overall enjoyment of the book, it could of easily been prevented and would of made the book look more professionally sound.
I look forward to Grahams future books and hopefully he finds himself a new editor and or proofreader!
America will always be worth fighting for. To combat the cloud of unease that shrouds the United States, citizens must set aside their differences and come together under the label that matters most: Americans.
And here’s some more actionable advice:
Stop scrolling on social media.
Not only does social media often serve as a playground for petty disputes, it can also breed unhappiness. In fact, a study from Brown University showed that the more time people spent on Facebook, the worse they felt. So log off, and live in the real world – it may do wonders for your mental health.
Good book that really puts the stark reality of where America was in 2021 (and still is in 2022) and where it’s headed. The real dangers of social media, Big Tech, the liberal agenda and even woke Christianity, among other things, are all explored while the virtues of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Founding Fathers and the Christian faith are upheld. Ultimately this is a reality check and a call to action to all of us Americans to wake up and do something now if we ever hope to save America as we know it. Time is not on our side.
This read was almost like listening to his podcast. The way he wrote it was an edited transcript of what you’d hear him say on social media or on his podcast.
His conservative views mirror my own, so I agreed with his commentary on the state of the country and the call to do something about it. If you’re not conservative, you will probably not enjoy his views and this book.
Overall, it was a good effort and I’ll keep up with him on the podcasts.
Even though it was a small amount, there was a lot of truth out there. Some of the points that were made I definitely see it today like cancel culture, thinking that having different opinions is wrong, and getting sucked into Big Tech. I agree on some topics that are discussed on and I feel like some people need WAKE UP!
Great book. He speaks nothing but the truth. If you don’t believe him, sit back and watch as our country crumbles. Or join in the fight. Thank you for your voice, Graham. And for your service. And for not being afraid to be American.
Graham Allen puts things in perspective. After reading his books and listening to his Podcast. I am beginning to realize I have more conservative views than I realize. I am still more down the middle of the political parties though. I am not entirely sure what that means anymore.
The author reflects on how united America was the day after 9/11 to the division of today. Social media is seen as a cause, highlighting petty disputes and studies showing it causes unhappiness among users.
Massive ego. Opinions that are not well thought out and show conclusively that he has not evolved mentally since the age of 18. (He admits that in the book) Self serving ideology. Full of contradictions.
Wowza, he sure does think he’s he shit. I almost gave it 5 stars for comedic value.
The author is correct about the love hate relationship of his words even though he speaks truth. But they hated Jesus for his truth as well. John 15:18 : Matthew 10:22 Sometimes people don't want to hear .....
For those young people who went through the Covid-19 time period this is a must have book for yourself to remember and for your children to read. The battle for America continues through our youth.
Love Grahams view on America and love that he don't sugar coat anything,, only speaking all TRUTH !! Its time we do act like Americans and stand Strong and United
