Marshal Beau Garrett penned a desperate ad for a nanny to wrangle the five unruly children he inherited. So why is this society miss at his jail claiming to be his betrothed? Penelope Parker thought the mail-order bride ad was her salvation when she fled the city and an arranged marriage. Meddling matchmakers may be to blame for the mix-up, but no matter, she won’t go back. With one week to change Beau’s mind, she’ll just hike up her muddied skirts, tame the children and prove to her reluctant groom he needs a wife.
Christina is an author of clean contemporary and historical romances, some with faith-based elements. She also owns and operates Redbud Row Publishing.
But that's not why you came here, is it? You want to know more about Christina.
Christina—just Christina—has no beginning, since she was found in a strange vessel looking like a giant meteorite. She was raised in a small farmhouse in Kansas by Jonathan and Martha Kent, where, once she became a young lady she was swept up in a giant cyclone and carried off to a magical place called Oz. She spent a considerable amount of time unconscious and running from flying monkeys and wicked witches while recovering from a head injury. She eventually woke, but not before dancing on a golden brick road in ruby red shoes with her friends Lion, Scarecrow and Tinman, and discovering that there really is no place like home.
She began penning tales on a steam train shortly after it was held up by Jesse James at her favorite theme park in Kansas City. However, she spent twenty years earning a doctorate in domestication and life before she traveled to New York and applied for a position at the Daily Planet. Of course, domestication skills and big dreams did not qualify her for the job, so she sought out smaller venues for her muse.
And if you believe all of that she has beachfront property on the moon she'll give you for the right price.
Wow is only way to describe this book for me. Christina Rich has written this book in a very well. In fact this was my first book I have read from this author, I know there will be many more. There was the mail order bride on the run. There was the marshal on the run. Penelope is running from a man who wants to marry her for his own gains, while Beau is running from betrayed love of another woman. Beau has his dead brothers children, all five, and requests a nanny to take care of them. With the love of a family member and a family friend words for a nanny changes to wife, so the request of a mail order bride is found. Can a woman from the city, use to everything being handed to her survived the west. She will need to survive the children, snakes, robbers, are just a few. The worse is the marshal who does not want to marry her. Will it happen, will she conquer all? Need to read this book, I’m sure I will read this book again. Enjoyed it very much.
Oh, how I wanted to enjoy this book... but it was not meant to be.
The Marshal's Unexpected Bride dragged hard, and then some. The heroine was whiny and teary. The hero was jealous, and at times somewhat rude. The unlikely couple were also apart for a significant amount of time (and a significant part of the book), due to the hero's law enforcement duties.
Sigh. What a disappointing way to end / start a year... hopefully my next read will be an improvement.
I really enjoyed this historical fiction story set in the Midwest. The Marshal might not have planned on finding a bride. But once he does, he can't let her go. Can she the truth of love in his eyes?
