Instrumentation and Process Control is a technician-level approach to instrumentation and control techniques used in advanced manufacturing. The book is divided into two Part 1, Instrumentation (Chapters 1 to 28) and Part 2, Process Control (Chapters 29 to 52). The content is organized in a logical sequence beginning with an introduction to the field of instrumentation and continuing through all the elements of a control system. This edition offers the following instructional Systems approach to integrating instruments into a complex system Comprehensive applications for instruments and controllers in typical industrial control systems Examples that show how to install instruments and protect them from damaging environmental conditions CONTENTS Part 1 ― Instrumentation • Instrumentation Overview • Fundamentals of Process Control • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams • Temperature, Heat, and Energy • Thermal Expansion Thermometers • Electrical Thermometers • Infrared Radiation Thermometers • Practical Temperature Measurement and Calibration • Pressure • Mechanical Pressure Instruments • Electrical Pressure Instruments • Practical Pressure Measurement and Calibration • Mechanical Level Instruments • Electrical Level Instruments • Ultrasonic, Radar, and Laser Level Instruments • Nuclear Level Instruments and Weigh Systems • Practical Level Measurement and Calibration • Fluid Flow • Differential Pressure Flowmeters • Mechanical Flowmeters • Magnetic, Ultrasonic, and Mass Flowmeters • Practical Flow Measurement • Gas Analyzers • Humidity and Solids Moisture Analyzers • Liquid Analyzers • Electrochemical and Composition Analyzers • Mechanical and Proximity Switches • Practical Position Measurement Part 2 ― Process Control • Transmission Signals • Digital Numbering Systems and Codes • Digital Communications • Industrial Networks • Wireless Systems • Practical Transmission and Communication • Automatic Control and Process Dynamics • Control Strategies • Controller Tuning • Digital and Electric Controllers • Hydraulic Analysis • Control Valves • Selection and Sizing of Control Valves • Regulators and Dampers • Actuators and Positioners • Variable-Speed Drives and Electric Power Controllers • Safety Devices and Equipment • Electrical Safety Standards • Safety Instrumented Systems • General Control Techniques • Temperature Control • Pressure and Level Control • Flow Control • Analysis and Multivariable Control
I had to use this textbook for two classes. At times helpful; other times too simplified or vague. Accompanying workbook is a joke; does not remotely match what is being covered in the text once past the multiple choice quiz style overview. Glad I only rented it.
