Money can’t buy love, but loving her may cost him everything.
Jax Hunter is an arrogant, selfish pr*ck. He’s got a body made for sin, more money than God, and more women than any one man could possibly handle.
He rules his business with an iron fist — displease him once, and you’re out. Dating is the business of pleasure, and he’s every bit as ruthless.
Women have an expiration date, after all.
Until Catherine. She’s a confident, strong-willed career woman with curves that make Jax forget all the rules. Like his first and foremost rule: never f*ck your employees.
Catherine is everything he won’t allow himself to have — and she’s desperate for an escape from her boss’s unceasing demands. When she rejects him, it only makes Jax want her more — and realize that he needs to take down her walls, drive her over the edge.
They come to an agreement: only hot, wild, sweaty, come-so-hard-you-forget-your-name sex. No strings attached.
That means no fancy restaurants, no flowers delivered to her desk, and no pet names. Jax Hunter doesn’t fall in love — it’s a weakness he won’t permit himself to have. Which is good, in light of his second rule: never, ever fall for your assistant, no matter how hot she is.
Then again, considering Catherine’s beauty, brains, and fiery passion…there’s a first time for everything, and rules are meant to be broken...
This is a full-length standalone novel with light BDSM themes, an HEA, and no cliffhanger.

Catherine is working herself into an early grave, the hours she works and the stress she has is unbelievable and I was worried about her from the start, she drives herself far too hard. '......now that I’m changing to work mode, the fatigue is starting to set in. It’s hard to keep up this breakneck pace. But I have to. I can’t fail. Can’t end up like Dad.' Jax Hunter is a successful billionaire and manwhore 'The dumb blonde I brought home last night—it's not a joke, by the way, she's got nothing but static between her ears.......I’ve got to get her out of here.' Cate's entire world is her job, she's no time for anything else she's focused to the point of obsession. Jax works hard but plays hard and women are disposable he's no intentions of getting involved with anyone 'Having “feelings” for women is a surefire way to lose control over your life, over your reputation, everything. Mine is too valuable for that.' But the first time these two meet the attraction is instant and throws them both for a loop but the question is can the commitment shy controlling alpha and the stressed out workaholic actually find some middle ground? This is an enjoyable read, I struggled with Cate because I hated the stress she had and how she put up with her bitch of a boss and while I liked Jax I felt he did a complete turnaround a bit too quickly but all things considered it's a good read.

Spoilers...Sorry for a bit of a rant! I’m going to try and be polite, lol! I am Canadian after all.
I am really on the fence about this one. I hate to say too many bad things about a book but this one had a few issues that I wasn’t a fan of. First Jax is kind of hard to like. He is a manwhore which I hate and uses women without concern for their feelings. His past isn’t talked about much which is a plus. Second after he meets Cate and is seriously attracted to her he is unsettled by his feelings and says the only thing to do is find another woman to replace her. The next chapter with his POV it doesn’t mention if he found a replacement or not but he is looking for other ways to forget about her so I was confused. Maybe it’s just me. The third issue I had is a strike against both of them. Jax goes to a club with his friend and is hanging out with a woman who wants him but he is not into it and as they are leaving the club she drapes all over him as the paparazzi start taking pictures. He is annoyed with her antics and has his driver drop her off at home. This is after Jax and Cate have agreed to their one month commitment and have been intimate. Cate sees the pic of him out with another woman and instead of being appalled she is determined to keep him for the month and tries to grovel for him to keep her. He never tells her he wasn’t with that woman and she never asks. I was angry she didn’t have more respect for herself. After that things pick up and feelings are established really quickly and I definitely enjoyed the second half more than the first. I liked Cate for the most part except for her attempt at literally groveling at his feet, I lost a lot of respect for her in that moment. Other than that I did understand where she was coming from and her desire to work and make a living of her own. I understood why she didn’t want to quit. The future is scary especially if you don’t have a backup plan. Her and Jax hadn’t been together long and she was uncomfortable relying on him for financial gain or job security. If they broke up she thought she would end up having nothing. Her job was her security even though she was killing herself working too hard, she really needed a break. Jax just went about addressing the issue all wrong and Cate was stubborn. The ending was sweet. I would have liked a better epilogue and info about Jax’s mom and what happened after her emergency.
Safety and Spoilers It’s safe I guess. Not sure if he hooked up with another woman after he met the h or not, it’s not clarified. H is a manwhore but it isn’t mentioned when he last had sex and h has been celibate for a while. No sex scenes with op. No om, minor ow drama mentioned above. Lots of other kinds of drama like health issues, job issues, family emergencies. No abuse.
Despite the light themes of BDSM, occasional steamy scenes, there has been time for other elements to be involved in the book too such as humanity, compassion, discovering oneself, romance and of course understanding yourself and someone else.
The author has managed to successfully snag all of these themes down in the book despite it being mostly overpowered with sexual content.
I hope to read more of this author's works in the near future.

Think Devil Wears Prada meets Crossfire Series. I didn’t read any reviews before I mostly just focused on ratings. This book seemed like marmite, you either hated it or loved it. For me, I think I’m somewhere in between. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either
I did like the characters in this book. Catherine/Cate is an assistant to an editor of a magazine and she is literally so overworked. I’m not surprised what the consequences of this was as they unfolded. I liked that she was a bit fiery but not over done. Jax was so cute. Like I loved all the things he does Cate. Even if his execution is a bit meh, I think he had the best intentions. Can we also just appreciate the irony of them watching The Devil Wears Prada when that is literally Cate’s reality in the book!!
I didn’t like was just how insta-lovey it was. I mean I don’t mind this trope but it was kinda just out of no where for me in this book. Also, it wasn’t as steamy as I was expecting. I think overall the romance was there but it was just very rushed.
This book is really short and easy to read since there isn’t much plot so that’s the best thing about it.
*3.5 stars* Pretty good read. Definitely entertaining but there were a couple of things I would have done differently. The writing is very good, the pace of the story is nice and easy. The characters I liked BUT they didn't ring true. Jax is suppose to be a take no prisoners hard as nails jerk when it comes to business but he doesn't come across that way. What was up with the way Sandra spoke to him and why would he allow that? She is technically his employee, fire her! Then there is Catherine. She's portrayed as a strong willed confident woman but she comes off naive and weak. No strong willed woman would have put up with the way Sandra treated her. Jax and Catherine together I liked very much. The chemistry was hot and the sexy times sizzling.
Overall a good read and one I would recommend. This new to me author is one I will be reading more of to see how her writing progresses.
WOW, if this is her first book I am so looking forward to seeing what comes next. This was a freaking awesome story. Loved it so much.
Catherine Schaffer is a very strong woman. She has dreams and lot of ambition. She is a type of person that works herself to the max. Catherine’s job is very demanding it does not help she has a boss that does not care about her at all. Yeah, I totally hated Sandra Sarzo in this book. Catherine is truly in an unhealthy work environment,
Jax Hunter is a billionaire that is just is pure walking sex. He walks into a room and the women’s panties just melt. He is also very alpha male. Jax is not used to being told no, not even by a woman. He is the type of guy that tells woman she wants her and the woman will lay down and spread her legs. Well until he met Catherine that is. She is not the type of woman that will give into his every whelm.
Catherine has more going on for her they she truly realizes. The people in her life (friends and family) truly care about her. They are quick to tell her when she is allowing her job to affect her health. They are quick to tell her to slow down. The problem with Catherine is she is way too focused on getting ahead in her career that she turns a death ear to what she is being told. She is letting her job control her.
Jax is a huge playboy but he finds that after he meets Catherine that he cannot get her out of his thoughts no matter how hard he tries. Every woman he looks at he cannot help but think that is not Catherine.
I truly love how the author wrote each character and love the growth that I see with Jax. We get to see a little bit of the true Jax and the last few chapters of the book, OMG!!! Icing on the cake. Yeah I truly fell in love with Jax.
I can assure you there are some really hot and steamy parts in the book. Let’s just say Jax cannot get enough of her in and out of the office.
This is my first book by Amelia Wilde. I have to say that I was surprised at the intensity in the book. It was a really good book. One that I enjoyed and one that I believe the readers will love to. She grabbed your attention at the first the book and held it till the very end of the book. The story line and the characters all worked great together telling a wonderful story. This book is for mature readers 18 and over because of the BDSM content and the luscious sex. Enjoy!
JaxHunter is a very rich man, and one say that he had more money than GOD!!!! He had strict rules about running his business and his personal life. Many felt like he was very egotistical, selfish, and was definitely a jerk. He didn’t like mistakes in his business and he was quick to get rid of anyone who made one. In his personal life he ran it pretty much the same way as his business. Women were just for his use, and he was never lacking in them. Then he met Catherine. She changed his way of thinking. The more she rejected him, the harder he tried to get her. He never counted on wondering if his rules were made to be broken.
No Spoilers. ARC free book given in exchange for an honest review
I loved this book I felt like I was on a rollercoaster ride the entire time. The perfect Cinderella story was amazing! I love how much Jackson was into taking care of his mother, he dropped everything multiple times for her. I did feel like I needed more with this book as soon as I got engrossed in the story I felt like it was over :( I could have went for much more! But loved it nonetheless
This is my 1st book by this author and it was a great start. Our H is Jax Hunter and our h is Catherine Schaffer.
Jax is rich, really rich. He does what he wants, with who he wants and he moves on. No woman has ever said no to him. He is driven and a lot of it has to do with mistakes his father made in the past and him not wanting to repeat them. He is honestly bored and likes a challenge which leads him to buy a failing publishing company where he meets Catherine Schaffer, the one woman that sees him as the enemy with no desire to spend any time with him.
Catherine Schaffer, or Cate as those close to her call her, is literally working herself to death. She has been working at Basique for 15 months as Sandra Sarzo's lead assistant. Sandra rules Basique with an iron fist and expects Cate to be on par with everything she says and does. Cate is meeting all of Sandra's expectations but her health is failing because of it. When Sandra informs Cate that the publishing company has been bought, Cate is stunned and worried about her job. It is everything she has worked for since she doesn't want to end up like her father. When Cate sees and attractive but rude man in front of her desk, she is shocked to learn that its the new owner, Jax Hunter.
Jax and Cate were great characters. They were both striving to not end up like their parents while not realizing that they were becoming worse in a way. They were wonderful when they came together and balanced each other out. I can appreciate Cate wanting to be strong an independent but not at the expense of her health. Jax was wonderful. He was a playboy with a love em and leave em attitude but when he met Cate, it didn't take him long to realize that she was so much more. I commend him for trying to take care of her even if he went around it the wrong way. A great first book from this author for me. I will definitely be watching for more.
Jax is the typical billionaire bad boy, arrogant, spoiled, used to having his own way. Whether in his professional life or his personal life, he demands to be in complete control, regardless of how his decisions may affect the lives of others. He never lets anyone, especially women get too close to him. It's all a game to him, no place for feelings. That is, until he meets Cate. She unknowingly gets under his skin and floods his mind constantly with thoughts of her. So he devises a plan to serve his own needs. Cate, at first is sucked into playing his game because of the attraction but is soon terrified that their encounters becoming public knowledge and destroying her career. She begins to withdraw from Jax's control and he resorts to his old ways, making a decision that shocks and devastates Cate. As good as the sex between them was, the heartfelt pain of anger, rage, closed minds, shattered hearts and the way life kept throwing in curve balls to distract them, keeps the misunderstandings building. As a reader, at times I was so disgusted with Jax and frustrated with Cate's bull headedness. But it was enthralling to see each heart begin to soften and listen to reason. It was a learning experience, a growing experience for both Jax & Cate and a very enjoyable read for me. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Five stars.
It was ok, more insta-love and BDSM than true romance. They said they were in love with each other without really knowing each other. The chemistry was alright, which is really not good in a BDSM romance.
This story was a bit too fast paced for me to really become invested and care about the characters. Not to mention we don’t really see a true romance unfold. They say they love each other pretty quickly but it was just a bit too unbelievable to enjoy.
He is too …..’extra’ is the word I believe they are using these days. I can’t have respect for someone who is trying to control me in such a blatant and overbearing way. Now I love a good alpha male as much as the next girl, but this guy didn’t even try to get to know her and her desires. He tried to shove her square ass into a round peg. And quite frankly she didn’t put up too much of a fight. I mean, yeah she resisted a bit but it was like a token resistance. Like she started to believe him about her own capability and that was kinda it for me at that point. Once she caved and got back with him I was over it. Good for others, not for me.
I like the bad boys romances but sometimes I find it hard to genuinely like the male characters. Jax started out like many of the others. Using women for the night and kicking them out by day. His usual routine changed when he met Cate at the new company he takes over on a whim. The attraction is there for them both but she is focused on work. It leaves little time for dating. He has to work to get her to pay him the attention he wants.
I enjoyed the dynamics between Cate and Jax He went from a man that did not care to one that really admitted to his feelings and became protective of her. His protective instincts clash with Cate's desire for independence and success and lead to a lot of friction for the couple. I liked that both characters narrated part of the story. It made it easier for me to understand their actions even when they seemed to be hurtful to the other party.
It is well written and has characters I enjoyed. The author presented the right amount of back story to help understand their concerns and actions. I really liked Cate's relationship with her sister and how they were really there for each other.
This is the first time I have read a book by Amelia Wilde and I was pleasantly surprised at how well this book was written and I really enjoyed reading it. The story covers Jax Hunter, a arrogant, selfish billionaire playboy with the love them and leave them attitude, and ruthless in business. He bought a publishing company and noticed Catherine, a confident, strong-willed career woman who is slowly working herself into exhaustion, both mentally and physically. What you will find in this story is, a woman not interested in dating, lust, unreasonable demands, drama, suspense, mild BDSM, exhaustion, collapse, hospital stay, emotional feelings, fired, disagreements, a breakup, a sister's pregnancy in trouble, c-section, twins, feeling lost, acceptance, decision making, making up, romance and wonderful hot erotic scenes. The story-line is well thought out and written. The portrayal of the characters personalities are realistic with the feeling of desires, fears and needs. I will in all honesty recommend this bad boy romance to people who like to read a excellent romance.
Received this complimentary arc copy from the author for an honest review. Oh wow...what an impact. My first read from this author and it has the wow factor. Hard hitting, lust, sexy, drama, family, emotional and so much more. Catherine Schaffer works hard....too hard. So much, she is slowly working herself to collapse at times. Her boss Sandra Sarzo doesn't help., giving Cate too much to do. When big changes occur in the job, Cate meets her new additional boss.... Jax Hunter. OMG. Breathe, breathe, breathe. He is so hot. This is a story of Jax and Cate who are virtually speechless when they meet. Such an impact on each other they are shocked. They want each other but both have secrets. I don't know how Cate copes with everything but Jax is there to help. The story built up gradually but at a good pace to keep you very interested. Parts of the story made me tear up, very heart wrenching but things happen in life. A brilliant read, lots of good characters, and it just had everything I wanted in a good story. Loved it .
This is a well written story from a new author Amelia grabs your attention right from the start to the final page. Cate was working for a fashion magazine that was a part of a bigger company that was not doing well at all. When Jax bought the hole company he closed most of the company down and the fashion magazine was tha only part of the company that was worth a chance to keep it going. The first time Jax saw Cate was the day he bought the company and he came to tell Sandra she had two months to turn the magazine around or he was going to close it down. This is how they met and every day at 5 Cate had to go to Jax office and give him the run down of how things were going. This is how there relationship started. Will they get over the bad relationship they have had before they met or will they let them get in the road of them having a happy ending. Received this book for an honest review. Well worth giving this author a go because you are going to want to read more of her work as she release more books.
I received this book free as an ARC for my honest review.
Jax Hunter is a millionaire who is arrogant and a player. Women have an expiry date and they don’t last long. Catherine Schaffer assistant to the editor Sandra Sarzo of Bisique magazine. She doesn’t have time for relationships with work taking precedence over a private life. Bisique magazine parent company William-Martin is bankrupt and purchased by Jax. They have 2 editions to prove the magazine can make money or it’s gone. After meeting Catherine, Jax moves his office to Bisique’s office and they come to a month long arrangement. With Jax having problems with his mother, Catherine exhausted and winding up in hospital, Catherine’s sister having problems with her pregnancy and Jax not wanting a commitment they both struggle with the what and where their relationship is heading.
I hate giving horrible reviews but I can’t lie and let someone waste their money that can be used on a better book. I love the characters how strong and independent she is and him so sexy controlling alpha that we love in these books. But the story itself had no depth to this story no substance. The sex was bad wording sometimes it’s explained okay then it’s not explained at all wam bang thank you ma’am it just wasn’t sexy like you want sex scenes to be where it leaves you hot and bothered. I don’t recommend this book but don’t take all my advise we all have different tastes. I wouldn’t be me if I lied about this book sorry. #Bookaholic
I mean...meh. I don't see how these two lived each other, considered this was a novel and they knew literally nothing about each other, rather than the members of the family they had. I stopped reading once Jax went and had sex with another woman after meeting Cate, but decided to be reasonable and give it a second chance. And I did, but I skipped to the end once Jax went on a double date with his friend and other two women after he started persuading Cate. Nothing happened, but...mnope.

Amazing book. Can’t wait for more from this author.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and I also bought it. I love this author’s work. This book is so well-written it’s hard to believe it is a debut novel!
Catherine (Cait) Schaffer is a strong ambitious woman. She has dreams and is willing to pretty much work herself to death to reach them.
Catherine’s job or rather her boss, Sandra, is very demanding and does not care about her as a person at all. But Cait feels that just 1 or 2 more years working for her boss and she can get a better job ANYWHERE in the city!
Jax Hunter is a gorgeous, sexy billionaire with trust issues. He knows no one wants him for himself but for what he can give or do for them. He is also a very alpha male. No one says no to him. No one but Cait that is. Jax bought the publishing house that owned the magazine Cait works for. Jax made the decision, a very unhappy one for Cait’s boss, that he would give their magazine 2 issues to show a profit or he would shut it down. To Sandra that meant war.
When Jax wanted Cait, she refused him, even though she was very attracted to him, feeling that she would be disloyal to Sandra. We know that Sandra could give a cr-p about Catherine but was very good at manipulating her with tiny tidbits of praise sprinkled over the year.
Catherine’s friends and family and later Jax worry that she is working herself to exhaustion. They are afraid for her health, with good reason.
Jax has typically steered clear of relationships. But he finds he can’t stop thinking of Catherine, both in and out if his offices. He manages a situation at work to look like daily updates but .... well you need to read the book.
Amelia is very good at writing the steamy scenes. Read them and watch your kindle melt... Will Jax and Cait get to an HEA? Or will his past interfere? Only one way to find out.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Wow! This book was hot and one-click and you are in book-orgasm. Pure pleasure. Dirty. Decant—sums up Jax Hunter and Catherine (Cate) Schaffer’s relationship quite succinctly. Jax Hunter is a billionaire who is so freaking SEXY and HOT!! And adorable in the hottest way! He can melt the panties off a woman with his smile. Jax has two rules—never fall in love and never f*ck your employees, no matter how hot she is, but what he does not realize is that rules are made to be broken! Being an alpha, he is very protective and dominating and he is not one to ask for anything—he tells you what he wants—he wants Cate. From the very first page, I was spellbound by these fantastically described characters that you will find yourself falling in love with—or not. I really enjoy reading this book and the momentum of the story keeps you wanting to read more that you can’t put it down. Cate leads a very stressful life working as the lead assistant for a very demanding boss at a fashion magazine, but she is very driven and a hard worker. When she meets Jax at the magazine company, the chemistry between Cate and Jax grows more potent the more time they spend together—the sex is off the chart hot! I enjoyed reading this story because it was engaging, entertaining, scorching love scenes that burned through my iPad, and a compelling storyline. The scenes are well written, fast-paced and flow smoothly from one scene to the next. The book will pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning to the very end.
Jax Hunter is tall, handsome and wealthy as sin, but he earned it. Mother is in the nursing home with azheimer and his father even though he was wealthy he did this Ponzi scheme and billed people out of their money Catherine Schaeffer aka as Cate works for this company called Basique' It is a magazine that's part of a larger publishing company Jax Hunter is supposed to bring It back from going out of business or not. Cate meets Jax when he comes to have a meeting with her impossible boss Sandra Sarzo. Sandra is demanding and expects the impossible. Their is that connection between them even before they get to know each other better. They both start thinking of each other, which is unnatural and they even find each other on the Fourth of July and to this event in the Hamptons he was invited to. They go out and he can't get enough of Cate and she can't get enough of Jax. He wants to have the use of Cate, Sandra's assistant but she doesn't want him to have access to Cate but they compromise and she comes to his office at 5:00 p.m.. Their meeting at 5:00 had nothing to do with business and everything to do with their need for each other sexually. Suffice it to say they do have a happily ever after but their is a lot of angst and drama to get their. I would highly recommend this book. It's a Good Read.
I read all forty eight chapters and somehow still missed the part where they fell in love.
In other words, the relationship arc in this book does not work. Here we are, with two characters who are adamant that they don't want to date, having a half an hour hook up session a day in a boardroom at work. A fair bit of spanking but minimal communication. I'm not sure quite how long this went on for but less than two months at any rate. And then one if them is taken ill and suddenly they're In Love and A Couple.
I don't buy into the idea that throwing money around is romantic and neither does the heroine ("Three clicks later, I’m reading his biography on a Fortune list of New York City’s wealthiest residents. And he’s damn near the top. I close the window and lean back in my seat, considering what I’ve learned. It doesn’t make much of a difference. I wanted him on sight, and it had nothing to do with what he could buy.") Unfortunately, no one ever told the hero that money can buy neither personality nor love.
I didn't understand why the obligatory roadblocks made them so miserable because I felt no connection. And the ending, frankly, was a mess.
This was a hard book to rate. The writing itself was good and the pace of the story was good but there were elements of the story that were frustrating.
I loved Jax, and I loved that it was a fairly short time before he realized that he actually loved Cate and that this was more than FWB or casual fun. What I didn't understand was how he put up with Sandra, knowing how hard she worked Cate and how horrible she was. She also spoke to Jax in a way that I'm sure would have got somebody fired in the real world.
Cate was was sweet but I really didn't understand her obsession with work. I understand that her dad not having money for retirement made her paranoid about providing for her future, but it seemed completely overboard...like an extreme reaction. Also, she was on good terms with Sandra. Why did she feel she needed to half kill herself sticking it out longer, when if she had quit then, Sandra would probably have given her a good reference? It didn't make much sense.
