Darius Jackson is a salty, medically retired USMC sergeant with a goal to re-gain custody of his children. Along his journey to reach a higher level of education and attain a stable job, he meets the woman of his dreams . . . Melissa Watson. Doctor Watson is a professor of woman's studies. She is a passionate woman's right's activist and poses quite well as a wealthy, strong, and successful role model for her gender. She has no thoughts or need of a man in her life . . . until Mr. Jackson enters her classroom and captures her heart and desire. But a dark secret lies dormant in Melissa’s past that she will protect to the death. To expose it could destroy her family. To hide it could cost her body and soul. Darius is a man of conviction, and soon his love for a woman turns to a passion for justice that could cost him not only his children, but his freedom. Note from This book has an underlying theme that involves childhood sexual abuse. I would rate the content in this book at PG-13 level, though I want to provide warning to the reader that some scenes and implications could be trigger points to those who have experienced such trauma. Because of this, I advise the reader to use discretion.
Katherine Nelson jumps right into the thick of the situation from the beginning of the book. An excellent read for someone trying to overcome the hurdle of an interracial relationship. This is a tale of two people who come from different ways of life and traumas. They are able to work through their problems with help from their beliefs in God. The book is very descriptive and is fast paced. It is a good read for an adult. I was gifted a copy of this book. Looking forward to reading more of her.
This book captured me from the first page. Dr Melissa Watson and USMC Darius are united in a classroom. Darius is divorced with 2 kids and Melissa is a high class professor. There’s a definite attraction. They have a few dinner dates and Darius begins to see that Melissa is scared of something. He would never in a million years guess what it was until he gets entangled in it. A riveting story.
