Root Rot Academy #3

Root Rot Academy: Term 3

Rate this book
The warlock who butchered my parents has reignited a centuries-old feud—and only one of us will make it out alive.

Once upon a time, I fantasized about how it would feel to ruin him.

One year ago, I lived on dreams of righteous justice.

Reality is complicated. Messy. Impractical and unpredictable.

Amidst the fallout of that horrific night in the cave, Benedict Hammond takes aim at me, my school, my reputation, and my men. Jack, Gavriel, Bjorn—no one is safe.

But he doesn’t get to win this time. Not today. Not on my watch.

Root Rot Academy has taught me so much about myself, but apparently it has one last lesson to teach…

Even with the world on fire, a monster will never stop hunting you.

Never.

Root Rot is an academy Why-Choose romance trilogy centered around the professors and faculty. It contains mature subject matter that might not be suitable for all readers.

I really liked this series and the ending wasn't what I was expecting.
It needed a better epilogue but other than that it was a really good story.
I just need more of the story like a look into the future of all four of them.

Reading this book is like watching a painting being done. Splashes of colour, vivid lines and minute details that seem chaotic and unsure until you see the final result. A true masterpiece that will haunt me for weeks to come.

This series has struck a cord with me because of the way the characters are written. At first they seem like normal people going about their lives, but then you dig a little deeper and discover beautiful mysteries, heartbreak and devastation, love, rage and healing from trauma. This is a 15 course dinner, each course hitting a different place inside of you until you're so full you could burst.

The way certain scenes were written made me feel the emotion, helplessness and soul consuming rage behind it, which is an incredibly hard thing to nail because straddling that line between too little or too much is beyond difficult. It rattled me to my core and resonated within me so deeply, I was shaking. Utterly beautiful and haunting.

Oh my GIDDY AUNT! Root Rot Academy: Term 3 by Rhea Watson was EVERYTHING I needed it to be and more, and an EPIC conclusion to the trilogy!

Jack, Bjorn, Gabriel, and Alecto captured my heart in book one, kept hold of it in book two, and have definitely run away with it in book three, and I have clung onto one HECK of an emotional rollercoaster ride of a journey and loved every single moment of it!

This story was an inferno, each character fueling the flames and tempering them with each twist and turn on the tumultuous journey they undergo!

Alecto is fire, Gavriel is sass, Bjorn is soothing, Jack is control. Separately and together they are quite the maelstrom and I lived for every single moment of it!

If you're looking for a delicious, dirty, most definitely SHMEKSHAY, action packed why choose romp, the Root Rot Academy trilogy is just what the doctor ordered! So dive in already!

P. S. Chapter 8!!! UNF. Seriously. Holy moly!

P. P. S. Is Lucifer getting a story at some point, pretty please?!

Sweet, sweet revenge. When the clock stops ticking and all cards are on the table there is just one thing left to do, act. This last book definitely offered more actions and some much needed clarifications. Alecto really managed to face all her fears and stand strong against her opponents.
Bjorn and Gavriel- absolute gems. Unfortunately, I just do not like Jack, but that did not spoil the experience for me. It is evident that he has changed his tune here, but for mw the relationships are simply not at the same wavelength. The ones with Bjorn and Gavriel had blossomed over time whereas with Jack, there was no bond g or emotional growth for me.
Overall, a good end to the series.

Gavriel! I so love him! Though I really cannot choose between them! So, I will love them all equally! Bjorn and Jack! They are amazing partners for Alecto, each with their own charm!

This intense conclusion to the series was pure bliss. Don't get me wrong! Plenty of bad things happen in 3! But, the men are so delectable! I devoured each and every scene!

Jealous of Alecto! But, I loved her too!

Ms. Watson is such an amazing story-teller! If you have not read her stories before, I say, you are in for a TREAT!

Book one was promising, this didn’t deliver

Boring
Drawn out
Didn’t divide a story to sink your teeth into, it was too much like someone reading out a few events.

Wow! Just... Wow! Talk about saving the best for last. The thing is I loved, loved, loved Terms One and Two, so Rhea Watson had already set the bar pretty high for the big finale, but I'm pretty sure the first two were just the appetizers because this one is all that and then some.
From the beginning, this trilogy has been high on danger and suspense with attraction, lust, and friendship coming in bit by bit. One of my favorite parts of the whole thing has been the connection between the characters. Even when they seemed to have little in common, there was still at least a kind of respect between them along with the men sharing an interest in Alecto. Gavriel is still my favorite of Alecto's guys - of course, the snarky fae is one of my favorite types of character - but I like them all. And I really liked how the relationship between the three men and Alecto took shape.
Given that there has been a continuing storyline since the beginning, the thing that brought Alecto to the Academy, we're given plenty of danger and lots of edge-of-your-seat scenes as Alecto and company deal with one threat after another. Speaking of, there are some scenes that are tense and some of the violence is pretty graphic. The author does give a warning about mature subject matter, and I would suggest heeding that warning if you have triggers.
As for me, I've enjoyed every minute of this trilogy, which is no surprise. I have yet to read a book by this author under any of her pen names that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. In Root Rot Academy, she gives us one more fantastic world to get lost in - something I always look forward to with Rhea Watson's books.

The Quick and Dirty: 🔥🔥🔥 ALERT! Hotness ahead! 🔥🔥🔥 Everything wraps up in the finale of the Root Rot trilogy but not before some serious drama ensues, complete with a battle, some blood and some serious heat!

We’re reunited with Alecto and her guys and while the first part of the story really focuses on the fall-out from the last book, Rhea does a good job blending this new drama with the overarching conflict of Alecto seeking retribution for her parents’ murder. The story moved along at a good clip without sacrificing character development and I absolutely loved getting to see some different facets to Gavriel and Bjorn. While I did feel like there were a few moments wherein I wondered about what felt like plot holes, or details that may have been afterthoughts, it was a great read and my favorite book of the series. Oh, and that scene on the stairs? 100% amazing! 😍 The wait was well worth it! Soooo HOT! Loved it.

With her archenemy’s true identity finally confirmed, and his intentions revealed, it's a good thing Alecto has some stalwart companions to guard her back.

It’s hard to review this story while not revealing any spoilers. There’s just that much happening. I’ll admit that I found things slow going at first, but also acceptable, given that the fallout from Iris’ proclamation at the end of Term Two has infiltrated and impacted all aspects of Root Rot Academy. I enjoyed how each of the men came to terms with their feelings for Alecto, while also accepting her need for each of the other two men as well. I loved how Alecto found her inner strength and embraced the shieldmaiden and fury that her men had likened her to from the very beginning.

The story is well written and told through the POV’s of the four characters. There’s drama and suspense plus plenty of magic, danger, conflict, brutality, violence, and trauma, along with the threat of sexual assault. There’s also some humour along with several explicit encounters including a steamy ménage scene and some elements of BDSM in another. I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Great series wrap up

The final book brought all the high intensity drama and action that has been building the entire series. Alecto and her men are fighting multiple battles, Alecto against Benedict, Alecto enacting her revenge while staying alive and out of Benedict’s clutches, Jack’s dismissal and fight for reinstatement, and the new headmistress of the academy who believes in corporal punishment.

I will admit that I was a little disappointed with Jack and Alecto’s relationship in this book. They had a huge fight and rather than letting it ferment for a few chapters or a few days to add some angst to the story, it was resolved and squashed rather quickly. I did like how it was addressed with Gavriel being her champion in that argument. I did enjoy reading the men’s POV chapters and their epiphany when they realize just how they feel about Alecto.

I definitely plan on reading more from the author. I appreciate her world building and character development. The plots were all intricate and dramatic without any loose ends or plot holes. She created an interesting story that hooked me from book 1.

This book was a definite improvement from book 2 and I'm glad it all got resolved. The characters got a lot better, though the pacing of this series was extremely jarring. It felt like a constant series of stops and starts where tension would be escalating and then we'd slam on the brakes, have a scene break and just skip to where everything was fine before we'd start building tension again. I'd have much preferred a steadier pace. It also felt like there were a fair few dangling plot threads or things set up that could have been utilized better.
But anyhoo, I had a pretty good time reading this series even if there were some big changes I'd have made. It's a good series to binge read and I'd still rec it

Terrific Trilogy 😀

So this was a new author for me and wow...I loved it! A fantastic series, I blitzed through the 3 books in 2 days - I just couldn’t put it down!
It’s got trauma, action, intrigue and body tingling 🔥🔥🔥scenes! Alecto is a remarkable FMC, you really feel for her and what she goes through and with her character development you’re just rooting for her the whole way 🙌🏻
The men (definitely NOT boys!!) well they’re amazing alpha males who are snarky, growly, possessive and wow are they HOT!!
Will definitely be reading Rhea’s other works now and on the lookout for what else she brings out! 😃

I loved this series. Reading an academy series from the professor’s point of view was a new experience for me and it was fantastic.

I adored Alecto and her men. Each guy was unique and a stand out in his own way. The snarky banter between Alecto and Gavriel was top notch. His inner monologues were some of my absolute favorite scenes. The friendship between her and Bjorn was sweet and beautifully crafted. His fierce devotion to her was everything. The heat between her and Jack began at a delicious simmer until it exploded. Their intense and hard fought love was amazing.

A great read.

This wraps up the trilogy and boy was it a whopper. I was glued to this book until it was done. I didn’t realize how bloodthirsty I was until I was cheering loudly towards the end. Alecto grew so much throughout all the books with her guys there to support her and each other. There were so many layers to the story and the emotion ran the gamut. This was an amazing book and I can’t say enough wonderful things about it. You’ll love this book and series.

Satisfying conclusion

What a great conclusion to this series. I wasn't sure how we would get there from the beginning, but we did! We finally see Alecto, Bjorn, Gavriel, and Jack fully come together, take down Hammond, and set things right at Root Rot - did you expect any less? Nah, me either. Definitely recommend this series and honestly anything written by Rhea Watson, she has become an author that I stalk for releases!

I cannot put my finger on it but there were many things that put me off this book/series. I felt that the only interesting characters in the book were Gavriel and Bjorn. Jack was a total miss for me. Alecto was equally there but not. I never felt that any of them had the power that they were supposed to have. The bad things that happened, happened because of stupidity and getting yourself in a stupid situation.... I had to skim through the book to get to the end. I just did not care.

Rot

What an ending. I loved it. This is a great trilogy it's full of fascinating characters. While it's a reverse harem. The harem happens slowly and it's different with each guy. All the characters are fully developed and the action is on point. I like Academy books and I like these even more because they are about the staff and not the students.

So happy!

This series was cute and boy am I glad they got their happy ending. It was a long time coming! First trilogy I've read by this particular and whilst she's not jumping into my list of favourites because I think it lacked description at times. I would definitely pick up a book of hers again, if be interested to see how her writing journey has evolved.

Epic end to series.

Being the last book in the series I was worried one book wouldn’t be enough to wrap everything up but this book gives us everything and more. I’m sad it’s over but wow what a series this is.
