I hadn't been especially excited about this one. The blurb gave me the impression that this was going to be a "Nichelle is taken hostage for two thirds of the story" kind of deal, and I'm not really in the mood for that right now.
But I needn’t have worried. Cover Shot, the fifth installment of the Nichelle Clark Crime Thriller series, delivered the same intense, fast-paced, nail biting action and suspense I've come to expect from LynDee walker.
We've got mysterious murders; a team of investigators who, shockingly, shockingly, I tell you, aren't talking to reporters; an angry man with a gun in the oncology wing of St Vincent’s hospital; a threatening letter and photo in a mailbox; a nosy, butthurt, overprotective ATF agent of an ex-boyfriend; a frame job; hackers; a potential deportation; jerky bosses; the shooting of one of my favorite supporting characters; some light family drama; big pharma; politics; a marriage proposal; intensified professional rivalries; and an unarmed protagonist in high heels who gets injured in an attempt to outrun an armed murderer.
This one was a racer from start to finish, and I’m really enjoying binge reading the series as a whole.
All in all, not bad for a much-needed piece of escapism; five stars.

Welp that was intense, I didn’t see that coming.
The poor dog… Who treats their dog like that, I am glad they got a new home.
Nichelle sure gets into a lot of pickles but the theme I am noticing is that she is so honest people trust her. I think that is what makes her a great crime reporter. Her job isn’t always easy but she is always fair.
I am really enjoying this series, the mystery of who done it to the characters and even the love interest. I have a theory about Joey, and Kyle being so up in Nichelle’s personal life I don’t see that ending well.
Another hit for Therese Plummer she is killing it with the narration.

Book #5 in this series starts out with Nicey lamenting about no news to her rushing in her high heels to a hospital on lock down because a man has a gun. It makes the strange text messages she has been receiving pretty mundane. She knows she needs to investigate them but they will have to wait because a gun trumps a text every time. LynDee Walker has us on the edge of seats with this one.
It’s all about the “WHY”. Why would a man bring a loaded rifle into a hospital? Nichelle Clarke needs to find the “Why” to this story and in doing so investigates the medical treatments and research, the test trials, and the money. The money made by drug companies, insurance companies, and health professionals. The scary question – Would cures be held back because more money is made treating the disease instead of curing it? Walker puts a personal face to this and puts her protagonist in danger as she tries find the truth.
I love this series. Nicey is a top-notch reporter that gets to the heart of the matter. She also cares about the people she works with including her editor who is trying to be forced into retirement. There is no way she is going to let that happen. She also loves Joey even though she knows nothing of his past and isn’t sure she wants to. Her ex, Kyle, thinks Joey is trouble and does all he can to shake Nicey’s confidence.
This is such a good story. The characters continue to impress me and the plot has a true ripped from the headlines feel. So well written.
Each of the stories in this series has been fantastic but this is the best one yet. I hope we are chasing down another story in our virtual high heels with Nicey soon. Oh and a little more Joey would be awfully nice too!

The Headline in High Heels Mystery series was one of the first that I discovered through Henery Press and one of my favorites. Nichelle may be a journalist, with an extremely good nose for the news, but she's also a nice person at the heart. She doesn't go after a story for just the story's sake. And she doesn't forget that there the stories are about real people. Nichelle is willing to go the distance to find the hard truth and not just the convenient truth. That's what makes her such a great journalist and a great character.
Piecing this story together takes some fast talking, and some fancy footwork to get to the facts of the case. I did enjoy a nice little moment between Nichelle and her TV counterpart and competition, Charlie. It gave us another side to Charlie and added some more dimension to her character.
Luckily, Nichelle managed to escape any serious injury this book. Though with the way the tension is ramping up between her current beau Joey, the mafia muscle, and her ex Kyle, the Federal ATF agent, there could be some serious drama on the way. And I bet dollars to donuts that Nichelle will be right in the middle when it comes to a head.
I really felt that this was the best Nichelle book yet. I admit that after finishing this, I found myself compelled to go online and do a bit of research myself. The subject wasn't something I have had to do much worrying about, but it definitely gave me something to think on. This was a 5 star read for me.

Nichelle is in the Thick of Things and Murder Again!
I love the character of Nichelle so much! She's a reporter who manages to solve cases at the same time as the police are trying to solve the same case. She is constantly getting into scary situations and if she was a cat she probably wouldn't have that many lives left. She’s feisty as they come and super smart. She's also stubborn as they come.
There's great side characters as well. She now has a relationship with Joey. Joey is a man of mystery and Nichelle assumes he is in the mafia, but is not sure of anything. Her ex-boyfriend from high school now lives in the same town and is a federal agent. He also wants her back. So of course he is trying to get the goods on Joey. I'm team Joey. Nichelle's boss Bob is elderly and is being pushed out of his job, or they are trying anyway. He's the closest thing she has to a father figure.
Anyway, of course Nichelle is in the middle of a murder investigation. All kinds of things happen, but because of spoilers I'm not going farther with the story. As usual, it was extremely well written, the story was intricate and there wasn't one thing I didn't enjoy. That's a 5 star read for me. Highly recommended!

How did I not know about this series until now?!? Cover Shot (A Headlines in High Heels mystery) is a great read! I love Nichelle - a mystery solving reporter - and the rest of the characters, and am now going to start with the first book in the series (as I write this, there are 6....Cover Shot is book 5). Great mystery which I didn't solve until the end (which I really like!). Fast-paced, never dull, and kept me up way past my bedtime so that I could finish it. Very highly recommend this series, and now I'm off to order Front Page Fatality (Book 1).

I liked the suspense part so much, that I don't even want to dwell on a romance. She and Joey are dating and she still doesn't know anything about his past/present?!... The only thing that makes all this bearable - she doesn't care that much, her work means more to her. Cool approach!

What a great cozy mystery! Very interesting topic- one that sadly could possibly happen, and that’s scary. The best book in this series so far. Once again, nicely narrated.

Yay!!! Nicey's back. I just love this series! I think this is the series that introduced me to Henery Books.
As usual, Nichelle just happens to be in the right place at the right time. She's always trying to get the news first to help keep her editor in his job and to beat the TV reporter to the news.
This time she goes into a hostage situation inside a hospital to find out what the hostage taker wants. From reading this, you would think that the girl is really dumb, but actually she's pretty smart as she weighs the facts most of the time before she jumps. Of course, while getting there first weighing on her mind can sometimes make her decisions out of balance, she definitely gets the job done.
This series is definitely entertaining and fun. Nichelle, the main character is just a down to earth reporter who is always questioning her decisions to make sure they are ethical. And yes, she does get in hot water some, okay a lot of the time, she meets her deadline. Oh, and she LOVES shoes.
I highly recommend this series. If you haven't read any of these books, what are you waiting for? They're money well spent and guaranteed to leave you with a smile with a few chuckles and a couple of "oh no, she didn't" along the way.

Oh my! Misogyny, slut-shaming... Again!!! I regret giving this series a second chance.
Guy lies to his wife, goes on a trip with a colleague, cheats on his wife... and obviously it's the other woman fault, she's evil and seduced him (quote "He was a good guy who did a stupid thing")... oh and it's his wife fault too, she didn't spend enough time with him because she had three kids in five years and suffered from depression. After she tells the true about what happened between her and this married guy, she also get bullied by this guy best friend, quote "He hated Elizabeth, though. Tried everything he could to get her out of the newsroom." and she "Said she wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of quitting" how dare she stand up for herself. And obviously Nichelle is not like that "I’d run the Boston Marathon in stilettos before I’d go out drinking with a married man". After that every time this woman name comes up it's slut-shaming time. Funny thing, she gets shamed for having sex (quote "she was great in the sack") with her new husband. Seriously?!

This may be the best Headlines in High Heels mystery yet!
I love so many things about this series: the main character, Nichelle, with her enviable shoe collection, the ongoing subplots--love interests, office politics, and matchmaking--and of course the mysteries.
Walker dug deep with this story, tackling sensitive topics like the questionable motivates of pharmaceutical companies, hostage situations, and immigration. But she handled these so well! She didn't shy away from the complexities of each issue and managed to weave them seamlessly into a murder mystery with an incredibly rich backstory.
I enjoyed reading about return characters like Joey and Kyle as they continue to duel for Nichelle's heart, Parker and his advancing relationship with Mel, and of course Bob and the rest of the newspaper staff.
I highly recommend if you're looking for an edgier cozy, or if you like cozies that dig a little deeper. Can't wait to read Nicey's next adventure!

Not having read the first four books in this series (Headlines in High Heels Mysteries), I hesitated to jump in on number five. I'm so glad I did! I LOVE a good mystery and this definitely is one. The journalist-cum-detective is spunky, determined, and set on doing what is right in addition to getting the inside scoop first. Cover Shot has a plot with twists that make you want to keep the pages turning. Even while the mystery is developing, the author weaves story threads of the journalist's work and personal life which enhance the story rather than overpower it. There are humorous elements to the writing including frequent amusing shoe references. I look forward to reading LynDee Walker's previous mysteries.Cover Shot

It has been quiet on the news beat for awhile. Nichelle Clarke by accident find a dead man that the RPD are keeping a lid on it on who, how and why. This begins one of her most challenging investigations. Her personal emotions become involve. The usual avenue search are closed so she must find new ways for answers. Her friends keep telling is not worth putting her life on line. There are many twists and surprises in the book. The ending caught me completely unaware. I highly recommend this series.

Walker does it again! Nichelle’s crime reporting gets her into heaps of trouble again. This time it’s murder, cancer, trials for cures, and big pharma. I can’t wear heels, but Nichelle’s obsession with the high fashion ones is fun. Her relationship with the mysterious Joey continues and her friendship with old beau kyle,a/k/a super ATF agent, becomes more strained. I like that Walker doesn’t need to give readers too much detail about romantic escapades focusing more on the twists and turns of her plots. She also doesn’t make it easy to discern the “who done it.” Very enjoyable, yet not literary masterpieces.

Nicey is up to her Louboutins in murder, romance, & the health care industry. What starts as a mysterious murder turns into far more than expected. Cancer patients that bring back painful memories with her mother's bout has Nichelle investigating doctors, medical trials, and patients. Nothing is as it seems as Aaron is unable to give any information, Kyle is still trying to involve himself in Nicey's romantic life, Bob's job is on the line again. On the brighter side, Joey & Nichelle are romantically involved and spending a lot more time together. Pulling out all stops when another murder occurs, Nichelle is determined to get to the bottom of things or die trying.

I love this series. It was fast paced and cleverly written. I want super surprised by the outcome but I love the main characters enough that the mystery was kind of second level important to me. The only real complaint i have is with the number of times she talked about her inner Lois Lane...i swear that phrase ws pf almost every page and its obnoxious after a while...enough to knock it down a star, but overall it's a great story

Fifth in a series of 7 Nichelle Clarke mysteries. Clarke is a police and court reporter for the local paper in Richmond, Virginia who would much rather cover Politics. As a person who cannot walk 2 feet in heels, I found her being able to run and wear her beloved Louboutin heals in all the places she does unfashionable.

Be careful of this book
I know I might be a little sensitive but I had a hard time reading about cancer patients. As I am only a year out from my surgeries my feeling are very raw and hit to close to home . So it was making me physically sick and sad to read this book. As usual it was a seat of your pants type of book and basically did enjoy.

So it was making me physically sick and sad to read this book. As usual it was a seat of your pants type of book and basically did enjoy.

This series is good. What I love: the characters; the writing; the perspective on crime, not from a detective’s point of view, but from a reporter’s. What I think is just okay: the formulaic writing; how Nichelle always gets hurt chasing the story; how the reporter seems smarter than the police. But it’s great fun reading these novels.

One exciting read
Cover Shot is number 5 in the Nichelle Clarke Crime Thriller Series and, in my opinion, it is also the best one yet. If you’re into this genre, this series should definitely be on your TBR list!

Even though it feels like Nichelle is some kind of superwoman and her stories don't follow usual detective rules, I love every book. They pick different motives, e.g. here the murder concerns a doctor who might find cure for cancer... Brilliantly written, funny with a dash of romance.

How is it that the mystery gets solved, the bad guys get caught, lois lane saves the day.....and still, the book ends on a cliffhanger. I just need some answers!! Lol maybe I'll get them in the next book 😂😂😂

Enjoyable but the plot is a little too big, and the story too often has the heroine commit a predictably bad move that gets her in trouble. Also, the third string players are not given memorable characteristics. Still, I enjoyed the interactions of the main characters.

Very good book; I enjoyed the read a lot. There are always a few things in this author's books that I question (perhaps a procedure or a word choice, etc.), but the overall story is so good that I just keep reading. The author's own experience as a reporter shows in Nichelle's character and work.
