Fresh from a divorce, history teacher Matt Taber decides to rent a cottage on Olympic Cove and relax before school starts up in the fall. Nicola Cameron is a married woman of a certain age who really likes writing about science fiction, fantasy, and sex. When not writing about those things, she likes to make Stuff™. And she may be rather fond of absinthe.

While possessing a healthy interest in sex since puberty, it wasn’t until 2012 that she decided to write about it. The skills picked up during her SF writing career transferred quite nicely to speculative romance. Her To Be Written work queue currently stands at around nineteen books, and her mojito-sodden Muse swans in from Bali every so often to add to the list, cackling to herself all the while.

Nicola plans to continue writing until she drops dead over her keyboard or makes enough money to buy a private island and hire Rory McCann as her personal trainer/masseur, whichever comes first.

True love can come in many unexpected ways

The story arc of the series does not move much in this 4th book. The story of Matt and his mates was the center. While I did enjoy Matt’s story of self discovery - he can be irritatingly obtuse. I was hoping for more underseas plot. This could almost be a stand alone novel.

CROSS CURRENT is the fourth book in the Olympic Cove series, and we find ourselves back in the war against Thetis. Matt has just finalised his divorce and is having downtime before he returns to his teaching job. So imagine his surprise when three Selkies and a Mer turn up on his doorstep. Oh, and his neighbours are gods, by the way.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and the individuality of having a pentad, and how it worked for them. However, I didn't have as much of a connection with Matt and the others, as I have had in previous books. As I've said, I enjoyed how their relationship worked for them, but being as Matt was with Fionn and Ailith, I don't feel like I knew Duncan or Ceit as much as I wanted to.

This book does move the overall story arc along, but you could also read it as a standalone, as it is pretty much self-explanatory. I think this is a good addition to the series, but it just didn't grab me as much as the others. I still highly recommend it though, and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I enjoyed this interesting and engaging story of Matt, a teacher who has recently divorced and decides to take some time to rest in Olympic Cove before school starts back up. Fate surprises him with four mates, including a merman and three selkies. Needless to say, things in Matt's life are gonna change. This was my first read in the series, and I thought it worked pretty well as a stand alone. I'm going to go back and read the other 3 books now, and I'll probably find out things I didn't know that I didn't know. (LOL) I found this book very interesting, and I am hooked on knowing the rest of the story.

Good, but probably my least favorite in the series so far

While there were definitely very interesting developments in this book that will shape the whole course of the story arc coming, I didn’t actually feel any strong emotional connection to Matt, or his mates. This was definitely a case of the plot overwhelming the characters.
