This is a lovely book and about a subject that interests me. I’d love to read a non-fiction for adults full length book about the subject.
Almost everyone I’ve known and know is a coffee person. I’m more of a water person than anything but I do not like coffee and I do like tea.
The tea/cultural facts in this book are engrossing and educational. I learned some things.
My only quibble is reading it felt awkward. You really have to read the book at least twice. Once for the main sparse poetic text and another time to read all the facts. I read it all at once in chronological order but if I was reading it to someone else I’d probably choose the two times through way.
I appreciated learning about all the different types of teas and customs in different parts of the world.
At the end of the book the author writes about “My Tea Story” and reading about her personal interest and experiences made the book extra interesting.
The illustrations greatly enhance the text information and they fit the subject well. I enjoyed them.
I think this book is great for reading aloud one to one and to groups, for independent readers, and I think girls and boys will find it equally fascinating.
It was so interesting to learn about how tea is made and drunk all over the world in this book. The author describes the history and process of making various types of tea in different areas of the world. There is a psychological component also. Drinking tea is calming, steeped in tradition and truly brings people together. I am from the UK and our first instinct is to offer a cup of tea when a visitor arrives, or when we perceive someone needs to talk. We share our lives over a cup of hot tea, aka a hug in a mug.
Tea has been an important part of my day since I can remember. Each afternoon, when I arrive home from work I unwind with a large china mug of black tea with about 1/4 cup of whole milk in it. My favorite tea is a blend of Irish breakfast and Earl Grey. I love the author's blessing at the end, "May all your days be "steeped" in wonder and surrounded by friends!"
I liked this picture book and think it is great that there is a picture book on tea and tea ceremonies. I came across this book via my friend Hilary on GR.
It made me want to buy hibiscus tea. Which I did. And I do love the comfy sound of a samovar. If I am at a hotel I am always so delighted if there is at samovar at breakfast.
My favorite tea is Assam, Moroccan peppermint without sugar and I also enjoy good chamomile which most people only (prefer to) drink when they are sick. Spicy Chai I like too and Matcha. My Grammy used to have a special tea egg which I liked to use for making a cup of tea.
My Grandmother's cousin always served peppermint tea with dried mint leaves from her garden and with sugar and milk. It was so nice.
I like the detailed, playful illustrations which are on the inside right after you open the hardcover. I also liked that there was a dust jacket and the cover under the dust jacket. I am also looking for a non fiction book on tea for adults.
I also enjoy coffee with milk. Sometimes I add a little honey. 🍯🐝
Teatime Around The World is a fun experience for kids and adults alike to learn about different Tea cultures around the world. I have always enjoyed tea and, experimenting with different flavors. I remember having teatime in the afternoons with my nana when I was a child, often served with her homemade shortbread cookies. So it was interesting reading this with my children, learning about the different types and practices of how tea is enjoyed in other countries and cultures. My son found it neat that one drink can be enjoyed so many different ways by so many people. The simple text is great for ages 4 and up. I loved all the diverse cultures and the simplicity of a drink interconnecting everyone. Big thanks to @greystonekidsbooks for sending us this special book opinions are my own. • For more of my book content check out instagram.com/bookalong
This was a great one, with that creative approach of having simple text you can read to a child and more detailed text about all the different types of tea enjoyed around the world. Definitely a great reference one that made me curious to try lots of other kinds of tea, without essentializing or exoticizing different countries for the way they enjoy tea. For a reference book, it's fun and adaptable. Unfortunately, my 3.5 year old, for all she loves tea, is not into these kind of nonfiction books these days, so it wasn't a hit over here.
Take a trip around the world with tea! This traditional, yet diverse beverage can be warm or cold, sweet or tart. Did you know that tea can also contain yak butter or tapioca bubbles? Tea can also steep in a samovar and be prepared as an entertaining show!
Learn about tea in various cultures with the poetic rhythm of a picture book, but dive deeper into the types of tea on each page. Recommended for preschoolers and older elementary school children. Adults will also learn something new about tea in this fun and beautifully-illustrated nonfiction read!
Tea is a beverage found the world over and this book celebrates that! Learn all about how different people from different cultures enjoy tea. Some drink it hot, some pour it up high, and others add lots of spices. This book is a great illustration of how people around the world live, while also demonstrating how many of us are not as different as we think. The main story line of the book is told simply and in a rhythmic, rhyming tale. On every page there is also a description of the variety of tea and why it is made that way. I loved sharing this book with my kids, and wish there were more books like this out there. It is so important to think of ourselves as a global citizen, and this book helps break down cultural barriers through a simple drink.
Teatime Around the World shares all the ways people drink tea in different places on our globe. Perhaps you know that tea is often served with sugar. With spice. With Ice. But did you know tea is prepared with yak butter? Or with berries? Flowers? Do you know all the special ways tea is made and served? This book will tell you all about the many versions of tea the world enjoys.
Thank you Edelweiss and Greystone Kids for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is about tea so of course I am going to rate this highly! But this contain beautiful descriptions and an interesting history of tea that will be engaging to any young reader.
I am currently using this fantastic non-fiction book as part of a resource for teachers that is all about tea parties and tea culture on a global scale. I love using picture books to support lessons and teaching because it provides a context and stimulus for the children's learning.
I loved that you could read aloud the bold words to make the story and then go back and read the informational sections afterwards. Or if you are with an older group, read it all at once.
I loved the illustrations in this book and so did my 19-month-old. I can already tell he will miss it when it goes back to the library. The extra info on each page about tea culture around the world made it fun and interesting for my 5-year-old as we found the places on the map.
A book like this really helps you feel validated as a tea-drinker in a coffee-heavy society.
(To be clear: I love coffee, but due to illness, it does not love me back, and I haven't been able to drink it for years. But I also love tea!)
I needed something light and easy, and a picture book about tea around the world seemed perfect. This was really lovely, and super educational, too! Learning about different types of tea, as well as different methods of brewing and consuming, from various countries and cultures was really interesting. There was definitely a lot in here that was new to me, and some of them sound absolutely delicious. It's easy to think of tea as being pretty simple, especially when compared to the ever-expanding list of coffee options and styles and flavors. But this book shows what a wide variety there is to tea and how different cultures have created their own meaningful traditions around it.
I really liked that in addition to the overall poem running through the book, we get brief but thoughtful descriptions of each type of tea looked at in different countries. I also loved that the artwork shows us the different homes, clothing, landscapes, families, and foods from the various cultures included, so that children reading this could hear or read the words and then pick out some of the elements in the art.
Very sweet and informative, and a nice reminder to you coffee-lovers that tea doesn't have to be boring :)
