A new chapter in the Limitless Lands saga begins.

Vaguely remembering the accident that might have killed him, retired Navy captain Craig Larson is offered a chance at a new life. Choosing the body of a half-man, half-serpent creature called a naga, Larson must fight to secure a place for himself in this new world. Soon, he finds himself in a fight against pirates, thieves, and terrors of the deep, all of which seek to end his new life before it truly begins.

But Larson is not easily deterred. He will call upon a loyal crew and decades of knowledge from his previous life, standing ready with steel and spell to cut down all who oppose him as he seeks to conquer the Limitless Seas.

Not nearly as good as the 'Limitless Lands' series.

In that, we had an honorable old warhorse. In this we have a guy who doesn't seem to really have something bigger he is wanting to do - just 'become a merchant'.

In listening to the audio book, we are stuck with the MC in their initial captivity for a grinding TWO HOURS. WTF. There is literally no suspense with this - you knew he'd get out - he has to or the entire book is 'idiot who rows a ship'. The beginning is so lame I am surprised that a fellow captive didn't say "So you're awake now." But it was damned close! Yeah, I blame the 'let's start in captivity' lameness on the Elder Scrolls series. They have a lot to answer for. Surprised another captive didn't use to be an adventurer till he took an arrow to the knee.

Anyway, I am still attempting to slog through this but unlike Raytak, I'm not really giving a crap about the MC so that doesn't bode well.

PS - reader, please learn to pronounce 'scimitar' correctly! It sounds like 'scim', not 'skim'.

Book one

Mistakes: Really well written.

Plot: Sea battles, pirates, slavery, and treasure. A great way to spend your time as you recover from a traumatic brain injury.

Characters: Killing off an officer because you don't know how to deal with a personal conflict is lazy. Also the MC doesn't have a care for his dead at all till the end of the book. For someone supposedly with a strong loyalty drive this didn't sit well with me.

6/10 Good book that just falls short of being great.

Alert

First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Second, I am not a bot...at least I don’t think I am. Yes this is copy pasta (just learned that term, so fun!) simply because I feel like any book I read deserves acknowledgement but at the same time my feelings on reviews conflict with the normal review process.

I enjoyed this book, so my goal is to promote it and help the author. If you are a potential reader, just stop reading now and take the above as all you need to know. I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. It is my opinion that Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. Or not if you don’t think this book is for you. That choice is all yours and the beauty of art appreciation. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

If you are a member of the IAK Guild (thanks, Jason) or part of the review police, feel free to criticize me and challenge my philosophy on reviewing art. I think we all love a good debate. The forums are open and I welcome your comments. I was wrong in my previous request to get you to stop. Your blatant disregard for that request has led to some fun discussions. Growth is important for us all.

Cheers

An Impressive Addition To The "Limitless Lands" Series.

Despite my three star rating of the novel it is quite good. I would have given five stars save for a fatal flaw of the lead character. At a total length of twelve feet, the Naga Captain Larson is too small to carry off the feats of physical prowess attributed to him in a believable manner. Were his Naga form eighteen, or better yet twenty-four, feet in total length and weighing in at seven to eight hundred pounds, his feats become much more easily accepted under the suspension of disbelief one needs to enjoy Fantasy literature. Thus a two star reduction in the rating I would have given otherwise.

The plot is interesting and Capt. Larson's personality and behaviors are otherwise well portrayed, as are those of other characters in the story, though activities outside the virtual reality of the game occupy much less of the novel than was true of the "Limitless Lands" series.

This novel may interest fans of the wider Fantasy genre and those who enjoy playing RPGs.

Great new series from a great author

Limitless lands is back! But this time it is the limitless seas. Everything gets better with pirates and so does this series. While reading this book I was reminiscent of the old computer game Pirates! by Sid Meyer which I played excessively in my misspent youth.
There are similarities to limitless land in that the main character is also a veteran but this time a navy one. However they are NOT carbon copies and this series is different enough to be great in its own right.
There was one situation where I thought the MC was unnecessary cruel, but his world is one without justice and being soft gets you killed, so after some reflection I could justify it for the MC in his world, even though I could not condone it for myself.

This is my eighth Henegar book and it is a fantastic addition to the Limitless Lands/Seas universe. The story is about a retired Navy Captain and business tycoon and his “rebirth”. The story is very well written, has an original plot line and is very well setup for future adventures. One thing I loved was that Captain Larson isn’t a goody two-shoes, he’s very firm, but also very fair. He knows when to fight, when to withdraw and when to posture. He also has to face his own trials and tribulations throughout the story and nothing is ever just handed to him. All in all, ladies and gentlemen, a very good book.

(I listen to the audible version)

First I love the fact that the MC is a Naga secondly I love that Dean Henegar did not change the formula and try to do something else with this book what he did was take all the good things from Limitless Land and improve upon them and it truly made Limitless Seas phenomenal. While the book does not have a huge cast of memorable characters as of yet besides the MC and Bug Bartholemew they more than makeup for it. Yet again Jack Voraces has brought this book to life with individual unique characters and their own inflection. this book is very much so worth your time and credit/money so do yourself a favor and get it I know I can't wait for the next one.

An interesting addition to Limitless Lands world

I was extremely excited when I was told that the author decided to continue with limitless lands saga. As some one that loved the first series of books I really liked this addition and I will continue reading it until the author stops writing in this world.

The only thing that kinda irked me was a weird feeling that he would when the current series has ended continue with Limitless Skies and allthough it could be interesting so would I appreciate if we didn't explore a fantasy air force (or space force for that matter).

One enjoyable book after another

Henegar delivers again, with a seagoing take in his Limitless Lands world. The MC, a navy vet, finds himself reborn (as far as he knows) in a fantasy world as a sea Naga. From rowing slave to pirate to...well the future is bright. A more traditional LITRPG than the squad based LL series, the ship mechanics show the same clever attention to detail as his other books.

I enjoyed this book. I had read another book by Dean Henegar and his Limitless Lands worlds and wanted to see if this book was as good as that one. Although there are some rough edges to the framework of the Limitless Lands, I enjoy the perspective of military fiction he brings to the genre. The idea of the 'game' taking advantage of first an army generals' experience in real life and now a naval captain is interesting and engaging. I definitely plan to read the next in the series!

Amazing story in this outstanding word

I've followed this author since the first limitless lands book and as such I am constantly amazed by his quality of storytelling and world building!

This book builds on the system of the original series but skews more towards realism, a trait I am living and am now eagerly await book 2!

Beautifully written and directed expansion of the Limitless saga

I was delighted to see that Dean had spun another tale in the Limitless Universe. I was saddened by the inevitable conclusion of Limitless Lands but overjoyed at the continued success of this LitRPG creative delight!! Characters are even deeper and more involved. Give me more!!!!

Crisp and clean. While the previous series is certainly recommended first as there is some connections it is in no way needed.

For those who enjoy technical writing skills and a well told adventure. THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!
His previous series limitless lands is also a good one. As a navy veteran this touched a few feels also.

Pretty good

Not a bad read. I skipped over any part that wasn’t the “game” I don’t know why authors think we care about the outer stuff. Just put your mc in the game and go from there. The other part is a waste.
The book is good but could use a little more description in the fights/violence. People die but no one really seems to care...

A life at sea not forgotten

Wonderful story with a cool idea for mending severe brain damage. Pirates everywhere, the old Naval Captain taken & shackled to oars. From the minute Larson's eyes opened to find himself a prisoner, the wheels start turning to escape. The main character Larson manoevering the twists & turns made this a very enjoyable read.

A seafaring romp that balances action with planning

A seafaring romp that balances action with planning this piratey tale is superb fun. I do think the MC should care a bit more about death of his crewmembers earlier on in the book. Mostly sees them as numbers and that doesn’t quite jive smoothly with his background

Ho Ho Ho

Good start , Larson is a retired navy man who is involved in a serious accident , as part of his treatment he is sedated and his subconscious is loaded into the RPG Limitless Lands as a privateer , fighting pirates , monsters and generally causing mayhem. Larson (his character is a naga) is a hard but fair man and he and his ship Sea Venom face numerous challenges.

As excellent as always

Great book. Great new zone, good writing. I'm really looking forward to more family interaction as that was the core of the last book that I loved. Can't wait for more.

Limitless lands is back!

A new chapter begins and it's a fine swashbuckling adventure. I'm a fan of Dean Henegar and this is another enjoyable step into the world of limitless lands. Stands up fine on it's own, and looking forward to the next installment

Awesome

I was excited when I saw that the author had released this book. I loved the last series and this one hasn’t disappointed as well. Can’t say I’m a big fan of Captain Larson, but that doesn’t mean he’s a bad character. Can’t wait for the next one.

AWESOME FOREWORD ...

FANTASTIC story ... great way to continue the Lands series ... Larson is a fantastic fascinating character ... the depth of his involvement and his interest in his " second life " makes for a perfect blank canvas ...

Bring on number 2 ...

No limits to this tale.

I absolutely loved limitless lands, and the opportunity to revisit that world, albeit with a different slant, was one I could not pass up. I have to say I was bot disappointed. Cannot wait for this story to continue.

Another great book

Mr. Henegar does a great job with character creation. They are not all nice characters, but who wants that? And best of all the characters do not go from level 0 to 400 in 4 days. I will be waiting for the next release.

Great, for the genre

Litrpg has a very low bar: how many overdone tropes, and how many errors (usually counted per sentence)

This had no glaring grammatical errors, and few tropes. Surprisingly well done.

A fun new take on LitRPG

I really liked this storyline and the characters! I am already a fan of high seas adventures so this was easy to fall into. Quite a refreshing new plot. I look forward to the next one.

This book has no character development in the first 21%. I know nothing about the MC, and the game component of it is basically nonexistent in the first fifth of the book. It was painful to even get 20% of the way through the book. Maybe others like it, but it's dry with no real substance.

Good read - very different from limitless lands in terms of class design but also have the similarities in terms being a leader class. Worth reading the sequel, though I’m not sure there’s more after that - abandoned or completed or I’m wrong on publication dates.
