Works, such as the novels Crime and Punishment (1866), The Idiot (1869), and The Brothers Karamazov (1880), of Russian writer Feodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky or Dostoevski combine religious mysticism with profound psychological insight.
Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky composed short stories, essays, and journals. His literature explores humans in the troubled political, social, and spiritual atmospheres of 19th-century and engages with a variety of philosophies and themes. People most acclaimed his Demons(1872) .
Many literary critics rate him among the greatest authors of world literature and consider multiple books written by him to be highly influential masterpieces. They consider his Notes from Underground of the first existentialist literature. He is also well regarded as a philosopher and theologian.
I couldn't get hold of it in Arabic, so I read the English translation. Although there is hardly any plot in this short story with an obvious conflict that gives rise to action, it's indeed a good story to read. It's about a moment in life that holds so many meanings and forces one to think about the very essence of our exitance. The depiction of a 104-year old woman in the last day of her life is so true and genuine. One of the millions of marginalized people who come into life and add much to everyone around them, and even when it's time to go, they do it so peacefully and quietly. What stands out most about this character delineation is her dignity, even when taking charity money from a stranger. She might have been poor, but she retained her dignity, I guess this is what I will always remember about this story. It's a very quick read, I do recommend it.
