Many in Sharp's Cove thought the killer was long gone ... they thought wrong.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Rob Hope loves his job. He will do everything in his power to keep all Sharp’s Cove residents safe but there’s one woman in particular that he can’t bear to see hurt, and that’s Emma Farley. He almost lost her a year ago at the hands of a sadistic killer, and the memory still keeps him up at night.
Emma doesn’t like to think of herself as a victim. She’d promised herself she wouldn’t let the attack define her yet here she was, a year later, still looking over her shoulder at every turn. Still deathly afraid.
When Stephen Ford, the serial rapist and killer who terrorized Sharp’s Cove, is apprehended by the FBI and insists on speaking to Emma, she and Rob find themselves working closely together. And, as it becomes clear that the killing is nowhere near done, both Rob and Emma vow to do whatever it takes to keep each other safe.
This sexy suspense romance book is intended for adult readers and contains adult language. Although it is a series, each book can be read as a standalone romance.
Rob is a Deputy Sherriff who is in love with Emma, a teacher and previous victim of a serial rapist and murderer. While Emma survived the horrors she is suffering some emotional consequences. When the FBI capture the criminal she is compelled to face him again when he says he will provide information about other victims if she comes in to talk to him. This book has a good mystery with interesting characters. I gave it a solid 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. It is an adult book with some sexual scenes and themes. The story actually starts in a previous book but this book is easily read as a stand alone book. The author provides a summary of the previous book at the beginning of this one. I enjoyed this book, especially the drama and suspense but I thought the characters were lacking some depth. I didn't engage with either of them very much. It could be because I didn't read the previous book. Regardless, I enjoyed the writing and the suspense. I received a free copy of this book. The honest opinions in this review are my own.
I received this book for an honest and voluntary review. This is the second book in the series. It can be read as a stand alone, and there is a synopsis in the beginning of this book that sums up what you need to know from the first book. Rob is the Deputy chief on the local sheriff's dept, currently in charge while the Sheriff is on her honeymoon. He's loved Emma from afar for many years. Emma was attacked and thrown off a cliff a year ago. She feels she's damaged goods, and Rob deserves better. Rob feels that Emma needs to recover from her trauma, so he keeps his love to himself. But when her attacker has information that he's only willing to give Emma, and then when they find out there's a second attacker involved these two team up. Finally Emma does make Rob see what she wants from him, but there's a lot of adventure in there too. 4 vs 5 stars for the following reasons: some awkward wording, Ie Chief Deputy, and Firefighter's chief. Being in the fire service, I've never heard my superiors referred to this way, it's the Fire Dept chief one of the second in command is Deputy Chief. Maybe it's petty, but I struggled with this. The other gripe is a few times the ladies in this novel deserved the Too Stupid To Live title. At least Emma recognized that at one point and admitted to herself she was acting like the dumb blond from those horror movies that die within the first 15 min. She then set about to rectify that.
Emma needed wine badly! It had been a year since Dr. Stephen Ford had tried killing her by throwing her off the cliffs, but she just couldn't get it off her mind. In an effort to terrorize his true target, Sheriff Natalie Bowmann, who he had raped and nearly killed thirteen years before, he decided to kill her, Natalie's best friend. The serial rapist and killer was determined that his first victim, Natalie, had to die.
She was on summer break from her kindergarten class and the worse part of her attack is that her usual past time of painting was gone. She hadn't been able to paint a thing since her attack.
As she's leaving the store searching for her sunglasses she looks up and freezes knowing she is going to die as atruck is barreling right at her. When she was knocked down from the side she was confused at first because her landing was much softer than expected. When she looked up she realized why. Chief Deputy Rob Hope had saved her.
Rob was so glad he was there when he saw Old Joe's truck barreling towards Emma who was frozen in place. The old fisherman had seemed to have had a stroke at the wheel. With Emma's help they were able to get Old Joe out of the window. They just made it out before leaked gasoline set fire blowing up the truck. Luckily, they survived with minor injuries and Old Joe was going to survive after his stroke.
This is book two of the Sharp's Cove series and it was just as amazing as book one, One Night Years Ago. It is action packed as Stephen Ford shows shows up to finish what he started.
I love Emma and Rob's story. In the fight for their lives they still manage to find love. This series is so well written and suspenseful. I couldn't put it down and read it straight through. The characters are amazing and JR Pace makes you feel like you are part of this small town and working to bring this psychopath to justice.
I highly recommend this book and series and am looking forward to book three!
Ahhh.. También hay acción eh. Algo de suspense y bla bla bla.
Full of suspense and danger: It was nice being back in Sharp's Cove and I really enjoyed what was in stall for us this time around. This book continues on with the suspense and drama surrounding the serial rapist/murderer and I would highly recommend reading the prior book to get the full impact of the story. It had been a year since Emma was kidnapped and she was just starting to feel like she was getting her life back when she once again found herself in danger. Luckily she had sexy cop Rob to help and protect her. I liked them together as a couple and was glad that their relationship didn't contain any unnecessary drama. I thought the mystery and suspense aspects were well done and it was well paced with some romantic and quieter times in between. There were many twists and turns which had me gasping until the end. I look forward to reading further books in the series. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
Chief Deputy sheriff Rob Hope loves his job in Sharp's Cove, and while he'll do his best to keep the town safe, there's one woman who mean smore to him. Emma Farley survived and attack from a sadistic killer and is still recovering. Now that man, Stephen Ford, has killed again and will only talk to Emma or Natalie, his original victim. Now Rob and Emma must work together and keep each other alive as they battle a madman. The more time they spend together, they more they realize their feelings for each other are more than friendship.
This is the second book in the series, and I absolutely enjoyed it. The book's well-written with well-rounded characters, and a well-thought-out plot. The romance and suspense will take you on an emotional ride. I loved Emma and Rob's story, and the way JR Pace handled the road to recovery, from victim to survivor. This was a captivating tale which drew me in from the beginning and kept me hooked as I read the book in one sitting. I'm really looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend both book and series which should be read in order.
It took a little time, but the FBI found and arrested Stephen Ford, With Sheriff Natalie and new hubby Hunter Fowler on their honeymoon, the news was given to Chief Deputy Rob Hope who’s quite happy for a reason to talk to schoolteacher Emma Farley though he wishes it was a better one.
Ford claims he’ll share info on rape/murders he committed while on the run but only with Natalie or Emma, whose gone from desirable to pariah, afraid of being outside or inside since she was kidnapped. Emma saves Natalie the trauma of talking to Ford by doing it herself and becomes his focus as it’s discovered Ford has/had more layers and outlets than anyone knew.
Unfortunately, this reader was screaming for the return of time wasted to my life bank of hours. To my taste, the promise developed in Emma and Rob was wasted and retracted in this awkwardly and conveniently contrived adventure complete with a (now) chemistry-less romance; the villain decided to switch his obsession to his alternate lure for no reason. Yup, I’m an insulted reader that still overrated the outing. Rating: 2.75stars
I enjoy a book that has a good mystery and a sense of urgency to it. Deputy Sheriff Rob Hope has a crush on kindergarten teacher Emma Farley. But the events of the past, her kidnapping, keep him from pressing his attention. Until word from the FBI comes that the serial rapist and killer who terrorised her has more victims unsolved. And he will only speak with her. Will Rob be able to provide the support that Emma needs to face her nightmare? Will they be able to work together to keep this new threat at bay? I had not read book 1 in this series, but the author gave a brief summary of what happened so that the events that take place in book 2 make sense.
Spoiler: There is a scene in the story where both Rob and Emma are stranded in the ocean. She is injured and there are sharks circling. I freely admit that my heart pounded and I just wanted to hide my eyes while I read what happened next.
Rob has been in love with Emma for a while. But she is still recovering from being kidnapped by a rapist serial killer and thrown off a cliff. She knows Rob is great but thinks he deserves someone who can appreciate him and love him like he should be loved. But she feels safe when she's with him. So when her abducter says he will only speak to her to tell the FBI where the other bodies are buried, of course Rob(local sheriff deputy) is there for her. Now someone new is after Emma. Can Rob still protect her and can they navigate the attraction between them? This was a good book that kept you glued to the book. I wanted to shake some of the women in this book but look forward to read about Jessy. Rob is a sweetheart and just wants to protect the people in his town and of course Emma. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I received a free ARC from Hidden Gems for the promise of an honest review.
This is the second book in the Sharp's Cove Book Series. I do recommend reading the first book of the series but this can be read as a stand-a-line.
Emma is piecing her life together after she was violently kidnapped to taunt her best friend. Rob Hope who is a Deputy Sheriff has been in love with Emma for a while. He has been working with her best friend and the FBI to capture Emma's kidnapper. The kidnapper who had also raped Emma's best friend was captured by the FBI and this is when things gets interesting. The kidnapper will only speak to Emma. They discover that there is more to the story.
It well written. There things that I thought were a little farfetched but it worked for the story.
I really liked even though I hadn't read book One I got a good idea of what had happened and the story flowed well without me feeling like I was missing something. Emma and Rob are attracted to each other but neither feel they can make a move due to what happened in book one, however this changes when the past comes back to taunt them and we get to see them slowly let down their walls with each other and see how good they are together. There are some great twists and tense times where you aren't sure who will make it out at the end and if Emma and Rob can make it as a couple with everything they go through. I really enjoyed this book and will go back and read book one now and I am stoked the next book is about Jessy and Darryl!!!
It was action packed and it didn't stop. She's a mess one year after her kidnapping, he's loved her from afar giving her time to snap out of her trauma. But that time comes to an end once her kidnapper resurfaces. There are some things that make this a 4. 1. She takes self defense and doesn't use any of it. Not once. Why even write it in if she never even remembers it. At first I was like wow, I can't wait for her to use it. 2. Her second kidnapping was too easy and convenient, why would the person sent to get her be too comfortable having her wait with no supervision? 3. We never learn if they found the bodies. I received a free copy of this book and I voluntarily reviewed it.
Emma is recovering from being thrown over a cliff a previous year when a local doctor in town had been outed as a serial killer. Rob the deputy chief of the town has had an attraction to Emma and feels really protective of her. When the last comes back to haunt her rob makes it mission to make sure she is protected and knows that he’ll be with her.
I was turning the pages quicker than I could read them, desperate to continue the story and find out what happens next. Poor Emma had a rough go of it and her fear was palpable. Rob was a great hero and I loved how it shows that you need a team of people to support you and you can’t just do things on your own. Great read
Not as good as the first book but still a good series
Rob carried a torch for Emma long before she was attacked by the serial rapist and killer targeting her BFF. Emma ignored his interest thinking they weren't a good fit. Slowly but surely recovering from her attack, she decides to put herself out there when they learn her attacker isn't done with her. Rob vows to stay by her side to protect her and hopefully win her heart. I did deduct a star because more than once she falls for the killer's ruse (and basically the same ruse) despite KNOWING he's after her. Fortunately Rob and Emma make a good couple and strong supporting characters round out this romantic, suspenseful thriller. Does contain triggers.
A new author to me. This story is about Emma and Deputy Sheriff Rob Hope. The sheriff has a crush on kindergarten teacher Emma. Emma was kidnapped and recovering and Rob is hesitant to move forward. Then he finds that the FBI uncovers that the serial rapist and killer who terrorized Emma has more victims and they are unsolved. The rapist will only speak with Emma. Emma will need a great deal of moral support and she looks to Rob to help her face this nightmare. I do wish I had read book 1 first as some of the passages were a bit confusing. I voluntarily received an arc copy of this book from HiddenGems
She is determined to move on, he wants to keep her safe at any costs. What happens when ghosts won't go away?
Have to say this book sucked me and kept me interested in what was coming next. I loved the fact that these two had built somewhat of a friendship before the past came back to haunt them. Honestly loved how she was determined to take back her life and still find happiness. Absolutely loved his dedication to doing anything he could to keep her safe and prove his feelings for her. Great read!

I'm enjoying this series and while this story kept me turning pages, I liked the first book more. I liked Rob and Emma, but Emma drove me a little nuts at times. All the self defence techniques Rob taught her seemed to go in one ear and out the other and she showed no thoughts of self preservation. It made for frustrating reading. Otherwise an enjoyable read and I especially liked Ford's demise.
This was a very interesting story, Emma and Rob had to deal with a psychopath who raped and killed women. He seemed to be a few steps ahead every time they got close, and they found out he had a partner that was helping him. Eventually, after everything happened they caught up with them and Ford was killed and his partner was taken away. Emma and Rob ended up together. I would recommend this book and series to anyone!
The story followed on from the 1st seamlessly. Definitely had more depth to the story than the 1st. The romance was fairly tame again in this book. I do feel there is something missing or lacking to get me really hooked. However I will read the final book in this series
This is a fast paced, intense read. The back story is told at the beginning of book. Then the action takes off. Lots of violence. Lots of attraction. Wonderful characters. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Hidden Gems.
Rob and Emma find out the towns serial killer has been caught and is now in federal prison. But don’t be fooled he will be back with a sneaky plan to terrorise the citizens of their small town. Rob and Emma finally take the relationship plunge and it’s a well deserved HEA.
It was suspenseful, had great action, and I enjoyed the characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Certain scenes toward the end might turn off some readers.
This is the second book in the series and the second book I’ve read by this author. The story moved at a fast pace with characters the reader will cheer for. I enjoyed both books and look forward to reading the third in the series.
The gang is back and are determined to bring an end to an evil that just keeps reappearing. Good story and the love is still to be found; this time for 2 super nice people
