Sad to say I never found The Headwaters convincing from first page to last. I give it minor points for being a Pacific Northwest regional novel and even more specifically a San Juan Islands novel. Although set in the 1890s about 60 years before it was published, it does not feel convincingly in period. It is rare for me to finish an obscure novel and feel no fondness for it - almost makes me feel guilty!
