Stay Fanatic!!! Vol. 2: Jovial Bloviations For The Vinyl Inspired

Fanatic! Here we are with the second volume of Stay Fanatic!!! Thank you so much for checking it out. Work on this book started at the same time as the previous volume. The writing ends up being the easiest part. It’s the transcribing, editing, gathering of source materials and scanning them that seems like it’s never going to end. The “stay at home” order that was implemented in early 2020 allowed me to work on this book at all hours, which had me putting in some interesting shifts. The 2200 hrs. - 0430 hrs. scanning marathons kept things strange. A lot of travel in this volume, Fanatic! I hope you enjoy multi-continental crawl. I tried to put in as many images as I could, thus making it quite challenging for Dave, our layout boss. At some odd hour, having cleared the 400+ scan mark, I realized that he was going to have quite a time. The next volume is already underway. Yes, Fanatic, I’m wincing too. If I could stop I would. --Henry

Henry Rollins (born Henry Lawrence Garfield; often referred to simply as Rollins) is an American singer-songwriter, spoken word artist, author, actor and publisher.

After joining the short-lived Washington, D.C. band State of Alert in 1980, Rollins fronted the Californian hardcore punk band Black Flag from 1981 until 1986. Following the band's breakup, Rollins soon established the record label and publishing company 2.13.61 to release his spoken word albums, as well as forming the Rollins Band, which toured with a number of lineups until 2003 and during 2006.

Since Black Flag, Rollins has embarked on projects covering a variety of media. He has hosted numerous radio shows, such as The Henry Rollins Show and Harmony In My Head, and television shows, such as MTV's 120 Minutes and Jackass, along with roles in several films. Rollins has also campaigned for human rights in the United States, promoting gay rights in particular, and tours overseas with the United Service Organizations to entertain American troops.

Only a record collector as FANATIC as HR himself will work their way through this entire volume without their attention wandering. For the rest of us, HR's enthusiasm pulls us through and provides motivation to continue finding joy in whatever you know brings it to you, even if that's discovering slightly disparate track durations listed on the Greek and Portuguese pressings of an Australian 7".

We’re back for the 2nd volume of hardcore vinyl/ music memorabilia lovin’ à la Rollins. A solid continuation of vol.1 and once again a good guide for some great listening. I don’t even come close to Rollins’ single-minded obsession with music, but I can relate on one level, being somewhat of a book collector. More than worth my time and looking forward to the next installment.

Latest entry in Rollins’ Stay Fanatic series, just him writing obsessively about the music he loves. I’ll keep reading these for as long as he puts them out!

I love Henry’s writing. He travels around a bit in this one. Some of the more detailed stuff about different album’s pressings lose me, but I love the straight ahead journal style.

To me, this is not a book to just casually check out, and shelf once you're done. It's a phenomenal curation effort of records to listen to, while explaining how he put together these playlists for the radio show. While reading it I've been creating a LONG playlist of new music to discover (new to me, not year-wise) only from the records he talks about, and I still go back to the book and check out his radio playlists and listening lists to keep queuing up.
