I'll say this is surprisingly good, honestly, considering that I'm unable to read most AFTG fanfiction (out of a personal preference). I think my biggest gripe with this isn't in the content, since the scenes from outside the canon narrative felt really authentic, and Andrew's internal monologue was pretty much on-point. My issue was that a lot of scenes aren't described in much detail, or little things get skipped over/omitted/forgotten, and as someone that hasn't read the books in a while, this made it really hard to know what going on most of the time. Like, when did this thing occur? What character is talking right now? Who is in the room right now? Where are we situated? When did this one thing change? I also wasn't getting a lot of impact with someone of the biggest, most dramatic scenes. In general, some of the impact feels dampened with a lot of the reveals, just with how the writing is, but I wanted to point out in particular the very significant scenes with 1) Drake, and 2) Dr. Proust. Both those scenes should have been really horrible to read through, or at least been gestured towards in a more significant way, but instead I feel like they breezed past, and I was told, not shown, of the impact these had. I am not saying I want a detailed r*pe scene, but I feel like if you read through both these scenes, you'll get way I mean. They feel very vague.
Although this fic goes heavy on the fire metaphors and I've seen some jokes about that, I kinda like them, especially when it ties into how Andrew is always playing with his lighter. I also thought the romance was really well done, since it's subdued enough to feel legit, and Andrew interest isn't incredibly strong, like I've seen in a lot of other alternate-POV stories where the love interest is absolutely obsessed with the main character and might not always feel realistic, but it's still evident here and progresses very naturally. Perfect!
