A year without her husband has been taking a toll on Jolene Grainger. Alone, listless, and grieving, it’s difficult for her to open up to the people she once counted as friends, and it’s even harder to imagine many more years without her first love, Mickey.Constantly buffeted by memories of the start of their love affair, Jolene turns to questionable alcohol and men. She struggles to find her new place in Markham, and every street, every corner, every building brings back old ghosts, reminding her of what she lost.Markham was where she built a life with Mickey. Does the town have anything to offer now that she’s on her own?
C.D. Breadner is a self-published author. Her first novel, Sin Eater, was the beginning of The Sin Eater series and she looks to branch into other genres since there are many kinds of creative juices flowing through her.
Recently she was christened a contributing author to The Freak Circle; a collective of amazing and supportive writers. This led her to launch the Red Rebels MC Series which is now two books long and growing.
She lives in a cozy home in the woods with her wonderful husband and two German Shepherds.
I'll be the first to admit, I was skeptical about this one. Having gone back and read Book 5 of the Red Rebels series and remembering exactly what happens and then realizing the characters of this story, I wasn't sure. But this honest telling of Jolene's story was a great read told in Breadner's no-nonsense style of writing that I connect with each time. It's not my favorite of the series but it's a compelling, unexpected read and I'm glad to know the full story of Jolene: her love, her pain, her life, her healing.
This is not a review of the book. This is me expressing my thoughts because I’m very disappointed. In each book in this series we have had a couple and I’ve fallen in love with both couples in each story. When this book came out to buy in Dec I jumped in and bought this book right away I loved all the other books in the series. However this book is about Jolene and her beginnings of her relationship with Mickey! I thought maybe Jolene would be paired with another biker after what happened to Mickey, but that doesn’t happen.
Very frustrating when yr looking forward to something and it’s not what you had hoped it to be.
I will however say that this is just my perspective on this story and you might enjoy this book and reading about jolene. To me this isn’t a romance, it’s just about a couple who had a past relationship and one of them has already passed away, I want to be reading something happy, not about a past relationship when that person isn’t alive anymore. I’m sorry but this story just isn’t for me.
Where to begin? Not what I expected but great book. Jolene’s story is told In such a way that you can’t help but connect to her. I was bawling at the end. The fact that the author incorporated a very dear character from the Maunders had me giddy with high hopes but I couldn’t have imagine a more suited ending for Jolene. Now her and Mickey’s love story will be one of my favorites. He loved her good!
