Sometimes life rears its ugly head and messes up your world. I know too well. It happened to me five years ago when I lost my fiancé. It took me awhile to get back on my feet, but I finally got my life in order. Don’t commit. Don’t get attached. Guard your heart. Seemed plausible…until a tall, dark and gorgeous man commands my attention. He is the worst kind of temptation. Funny, charming, and did I mention hot? Every woman’s fantasy. A professional baseball player. Suit up heart because I have no desire to become one of his stats.
John
Sometimes life drops a little miracle right in front of you. In the form of a beautiful goddess. Who’s also intelligent. Snarky. Oh, and doesn’t fall for my bullshit. In fact, I don’t even think she likes me. That’s okay. I’m an athlete, and I’m used to challenges. You don’t make it as far as I have in my sport without having goals in mind. I’ll pursue her like I’m pursuing the MVP award this season. And, I will conquer.

So I first met Rose & John in High School Lover and was hoping to read more about a possible connection between them and then this book came along ☺
Rose fell in love in high school and got engaged at a young age. This was the man she planned to spend the rest of her life with until one night changed everything for them. There was no way Rose would ever trust anyone with her heart they way she did with Carlos.
When Rose first meets John she decides he is too cocky. She soon discovers he is a professional baseball player with no shortage of female admirers. He is absolutely gorgeous and can have his pick of anyone so his interest in her is confusing at first.
John loves that she has no idea who he is and knows nothing about baseball. After years of groupies throwing themselves at him it’s refreshing to find a girl who doesn’t have a hidden agenda, in fact she pretty much disregards him. That in itself is appealing.
Rose tries not to like John but he is just too hard to resist and his persistence in trying to win her over eventually works it’s way into her heart. It’s hard for Rose to trust John, he is a ‘celebrity’ and has a very different life to her. He is a person of interest when it comes to media coverage and Rose may want to be with John but the ‘public’ side of his life is not something she wants to deal with.
John is completely falling for Rose. He knows she has things from her past that haunt her and is still working through. Rose is not an open book and gaining her trust is something that will take time and patience. He knows that there is something there between them worth waiting for and he’s in it for the long term, not a short fling.
Rose is definitely a girl with a complex personality, she isn’t trying to play hard to get with John, she wants to trust him but it only takes one seed of doubt for a whole a garden to take root in her mind.
John knows he has to prove to Rose that what they have is worth fighting for and he is a man used to getting what he wants.
I loved this story. The path to love was not easy for this couple but I love that John never gave up on what he knew was there between them. When Rose couldn’t see what could be, he believed enough for both of them. Loved this ☺
Received ARC from Author for Honest Review I Give this Book a 1 Star Rating Heat Level: DNF’d so don’t know.
It’s been a long long time since I DNF’d a book, and I literally stopped at Chapter 3.
The beginning of the book kinda just threw me off, and I wasn’t sure how to react. Lots of useless details, to many big words that are just not needed (you don’t need to impress me with your vocabulary, just put together a great story) and some thing’s that just didn’t make sense and It was hard to figure who’s dialogue was who’s.
Right at the beginning, Rose is dissing Loren her BEST friend (mind you) just for having fun, and the fact that Rose damn near called her stupid despite the fact that she excelled in all her classes and practically degrade her too. It’s evident she clearly finds herself more beautiful than Loren, but if she’s told she’s beautiful she gets angry. Also it sound like her breasts are Enormous, and men only look at her to look at her boobs. To me they don’t even know each other, and five years later I didn’t see much improvement. I would say they’re acquaintances, cause they really don’t know each other by the sounds of it, therefore goes against the fact that they’re Best Friends.
5 years later after a tragic event, Rose and Loren go to a bar where Loren wants to introduce her boyfriend Andrew to her. While they’re waiting, she sees John (Andrew’s brother, at that time she doesn’t know who he is) She’s attracted, until she meets him and then things just spiraled out of control (not in a good way), lets see.. it’s starts when she finds out that Loren knows him first, she’s instantly jealous. He pays her a compliment and she can’t even HANDLE IT. He says: “Damn, I wish I would’ve had a teacher that looked like you. I definitely would’ve stayed after class for tutoring.” “I bet you could teach me…a lot.” (I thought the compliment was funny, cute and flirtatiously sexy)
And then she replies: I frowned at Loren. “Is he always this offensive?” “Am I supposed to be flattered by what you said? First of all, you just joked about teacher-student sexual liaisons, which is a serious issue that’s happening too often in our schools. And secondly, that was the douchiest line I’ve ever heard. Who even talks like that? Are you fifteen?” (I was like what the hell?! It was just a flirty joke. And GET THIS HE HAD TO APOLOGIZE!! We got enough crap in the real world to deal with, if I have to endure this while reading a fictional romance, I’ll just read the paper) I wasn’t too thrilled on Rose’s judgmental & superficial attitude that was immediately apparent, and the fact she’s so indifferent made her instantly unlikable. She can’t take a joke AT ALL.
Loren and Andrew haven’t even had sex yet and upon Rose & Andrews FIRST meeting it starts like this:
I focused my attention on Andrew. “Hey. Nice to meet you,” he said.
I had to pull myself together. I cleared my throat. “I’m happy to finally meet you because I feel like I’ve known you for years. Loren told me everything about you, and when I say everything, I mean ev-ery-thing.” Loren scowled at me. Was that TMI? Maybe it was. I wasn’t exactly in the right frame of mind right now. (What a Bitch Move, and the couple haven’t even have sex yet and yet Rose already knows dirty secrets? And she even gets mean when Loren just wants her to calm down, cause Rose made herself so angry for no reason and suddenly Loren’s the bad guy)
Here’s another one, This just bewildered me: “I’m. Not. Your. Girlfriend.” I would never go out with this manwhore who seemed to have the vocabulary of a twelve-year-old.
Gotta say that definitely pissed me off, it’s more like SHE has the attitude and hormones of a 12 year old. From Roses point of view your literally hating and disgusted by John IMMEDIATELY, (insert sarcasm) what a disgusting womanizer! *rolls eyes* Seriously John literally didn’t do anything wrong at ANY time. She just met this guy and is already painting in a bad light (FOR NO REASON). She calls him a manwhore, a dumb jock, a creeper, pervert. Yet when girls ask for his autograph she acts like a jealous girlfriend, but despises that he called her that. I understood why he called her his girlfriend at that moment, it was just to get rid of the fans so he can get some alone time with the four of them. When he tried to get a little intimate with her she pushed him away, but inwardly she wants to maul and claim. She also considers herself shallow because he’s God like in his beauty.
Then at chapter three you go back 5 years ago...And I just didn’t want to deal with a Time Jumping/back and forth thing.
I didn’t like how John was portrayed, I’m mean good lord he’s already a victim and doesn’t even know it. I can already tell Rose is one of those toxic people.
I mean how is it that I’m at chapter 3, I literally cannot stand Rose and I already can see no redemption for her behavior that makes sense.
I would like the jury to know that the Title of this book is not at all true, Rose is not at all a fan and doesn’t even care.
Again, Please notice all this has happened before chapter 3.
I’m disappointed, I wanted to read this book because the synopsis sounded pretty good. I found this book to have feministic traits, and for me those are not my type of books.
3.75 stars This was the first time reading this author. I was very excited to read this because baseball is life. While there were a lot of things that I liked there were many others that I struggled with. I really struggled with the connection between the characters. Each had their own issues that at times were a bit much. This book had so much potential which is why it frustrated me.
Rose was my biggest issue. I struggled to like her a lot of the time especially with how she acted. Whether it was how she talked to her friend or the back and forth with her relationship with John. John was much easier to handle. He still had moments of immaturity but had many redeemable qualities as well. their relationship was constantly back and forth which drives me batty if it is over pettiness. I was hoping that a little more of the backstory that had started out in the beginning before they had met would have been fleshed out here because this was a goldmine to have at the author's disposal, instead of waiting until the end of the book before just starting to dig in to the meat of the situation.
I think with time, this author and her writing style will get better and the story will get the cohesiveness that it needs. I appreciate the author and her passion. I cannot do what she does. I am breaking into sweats just thinking about it.
I got an earc of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. This book is very exciting. I love John. He is funny and easy-going. He really knows what he wants. He is very successful and down to earth. Rose on the other hand is smart, but her heart is broken and she doesn't know how to pick herself up. So, she stays closed to all of the other guys, because she can't afford to lose another man like that - her heart wouldn't make it out in one piece. I love that John is so stubborn and goes after what he wants. And he wants Rose. He won't give up. I loved it when Rose finally got it that he won't go anywhere, and all that he wants is her.
Rose and John meet through her friend Loren. She’s kinda bitchy to him at first, which threw me off a little. That somebody can judge someone they haven’t met before.
The book gets better the longer you read. Rose is a little self conscious, she needs to work on that. Of course, John is the ‚know-it-all‘ baseball player, who gets what he wants and he set his sights on...
This is my first Rose Croft book. I was intrigued, John's character was quite lovable. I instantly liked him. He was really fun, sweet and was really into Rose. He wanted to show her how much he likes her, mature and change his ways for her. Do anything to keep her in his life. He is a famous baseball player, and was falling hard for this girl, this hard headed, pretty immature Rose. Rose....Rose....I could not connect with her character. I think John deserved a better heroine. While she was annoyed with him in the beginning and acting stubborn, didn't want anything to do with him, but all at the same time, she was texting boob pics, etc. She was a HUGE tease, and her overreactions were so ridiculous. She really was superficial, annoying, and can't take a joke. But overall, I was happy John got his HEA. He deserved it. I enjoyed everything about him.
Let me start this off by saying, I LOVED John in the ‘High School Lover’. He had such an energetic, playful, mischievous, down to earth and flirtatious personality, it was hard not to like him from the beginning. I was secretly praying that John would get his own book and I’m ecstatic that he did.
Depending on where in the timeline of John and Rose’s story, will determine a couple different facets to Rose. Five years previous, Rose was on the top of the world. She was just finishing college and had a prosperous career to look forward to and then, BAM, tragedy strikes. Back in the present, Rose is working as a high school teacher. She has a best friend, Loren, who is dating her high school sweetheart, Andrew, but other than that she’s living her life of solitude. Rose is enigmatic, hurt, afraid to fall in love again and has walls built up high around her. All these personality quirks may come off as slightly bitchy, but she is trying to survive and not lose herself in the process of men, dating and love. She is a lovable woman with a great heart, she just portrays this prickly attitude to protect herself. She knows, however, that there is something different about John.
John and Rose as a couple didn’t happen overnight. It was beautifully written with a magnificent hero who was willing to do anything he could for the woman that he loved. John was truly a saint when it came to pursuing Rose. He is an unpretentious guy with the heart the size of Texas. When they finally were in a relationship, they had a whole different set of issues to work through. The biggest one being distance. John played baseball in Chicago, while Rose taught in Texas. Ms. Croft explores the issues of a long-distance relationship, not to mention when one person is in the limelight. Eventually, they work through their issues. What I love about them is that they were extremely supportive of each other.
Baseball Lover is a sports romance that is so much more than just sports and romance. There are moments of heated passion, emotional up and downs, personal growth, along with ‘oh no she didn’t’ frustration levels. I thoroughly, enjoyed, Baseball Lover. I was captivated from beginning to end. If you haven't become acquainted with Rose Croft and her books yet, now is the time. You will not be dissapointed!!
Baseball Lovers by Rose Croft is an angsty, sexy read that definitely pulls at your heartstrings. Dealing with themes of a sensitive nature, this book will definitely jeep you hooked whist touching that poor heart of yours.
I just loved the story. It was beautiful and heart breaking at the same time. I loved reading Rose’s story, my heart breaking at the pain she went through, but it soaring with the strength she had, and see her trust her heart once more with John at her side. And as for John, can I please have one of him? Not only for his skills on the baseball field, but for those off the field *wink wink*. John is a man who can be humble and sensitive. His sense of humour is right on par, and I find his love for Rose’s cupcakes hilarious yet adorable. His character is absolutely awesome, and I could love this character any more than I already do. This book discusses the sensitive issue of mental health and suicide, and how everybody is affected by the effects of it. It is such an important issue to discuss, but if this triggers anything for you, please be careful when reading this book. Baseball Lovers is not a book to take lightly. I seriously underestimated this book, so when I started the prologue, and then finished the prologue, the book had a completely different meaning to me. Rose Croft did an incredible job on this book. This book is not your typical sports romance, and it is one home run of a romance, and it hits the heart... hard!
I love a good sports romance and this was exactly what I needed after a long day at work!
Rose's life was once what some would call perfect, her career was about to lift off and she'd found the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. But after tragedy strikes, it turned out it wasn't quite as perfect as it seemed. Now years later, Rose has realised her dreams as a school teacher but her love life is non-existent, choosing to guard her heart against further pain. However, she wasn't expecting a famous baseball player to come knocking on her defences.
John is used to getting what he wants, and when Rose snubs his advances it only makes him more determined. But when he gets to know her better he realises that there's a lot more to Rose's defences than he thought. Will he be able to win her over and prove that her heart is safe with him?
I really enjoyed this book, particularly the chemistry between the two of them - I especially liked their obsession with the PS4 game and the associated conversations! If you're looking for an easy read with a guarenteed happy ending, this is the one for you!
I received an ARC in exchange of an honest review.
Let me preface this by saying that I am a sucker for sports romance, AND we just ended the baseball postseason which made me totally in the mood to read this book.
This book was the first time I had read anything by Rose Croft. I was NOT disappointed! John and me wrapped around his little finger. Seriously swoony. He handled Rose with such care and instantly made me fall in love with him. I wanted to yell at Rose to just, "Let him in!". I am glad I was able to understand her reservations, but gah... He's SUCH a good guy! Where can I find one just like him?
Baseball Lover was the second book in this series, but I didn't feel lost at all, not having read the first book. However, after reading this one, I have to run and buy High School Lover now too! Seriously! SO GOOD!
This was my first book by Rose Croft and Baseball Lover had this author sliding across home plate for me. John and Rose are characters that gave their all in this story from the witty banter, the flirting, the push and pull and the struggles with trust. Their story was one of pasts coming back to haunt you and not allowing you to move forward no matter what the heart wanted. Rose will at times infuriate you with her guarded heart and her lack of trust but you will empathize with her. This is a sports romance packed full of passion and heat and one that will have you held hostage to the pages and not wanting to be rescued.
So l loved John in High School Lover and hoped he would get his story, and he did! I absolutely loved John & Rose's story, it was so good we had some sizzling moments and some up and down moments! But we had an ending the way it should be! Thankyou Rose for that mention! So worth the read and will be reading more!
I had been waiting to read Baseball Lover since finishing High School Lover! I read both as advance copies. I loved Reading about Rose and John and their path to love. This story was sweet and engaging and I enjoyed it!
This book just blew me away! I couldnt put it down and have devoured it in less than 12 hours. I am actually gutted that it is over and feel it will put me in a massive lull. This story pulled at my heart strings and i felt every emption written! Oh and i completely am 100% in love with John!
This was a re-read for me and I still love this book. Hot baseball player and a strong woman are a recipe for success. It was super steamy and sweet but also had a lot of emotions which I love.
This was a cute sports romance. I liked the characters and the storyline flowed well. There were a little slow parts that did cause me to skim a little but all in all it was an okay read.
This is the first book I've read by Rose Croft and it will definitely not be my last. As a matter of fact, I will be getting High School Lover as soon as I am done with this review. I absolutely loved this book! Rose is a descriptive author and I am a big fan of that. John and Rose's story was the perfect mix of sweet and sexy that has you continuing to turn the page and see what happens next. There were many moments in this book I was biting my own lip at John's thoughts about Rose, I may have even blushed. The SEX was fantastic! If you are considering taking a chance on a new author this book is for you. It will be worth it! Rose you are incredibly talented and should definitely continue writing. I will keep reading!
