Are you a book lover who wants to read more books in 2021? Try a reading challenge! The 2021 Reading Challenge Journal is the perfect tracker for bookworms embarking on a reading challenge. Whether you are following an online challenge, setting a goal to read a certain number of books, or creating your own customized reading challenge, this journal will help you set up your challenge and keep you on track all year long. Includes the following pages for a successful reading challenge in 2021:
March Update: I was doing so well, pretty much only reading books from my list....then I went library crazy and put a bunch of books on hold which have been coming to me quicker than I thought. And since that happened and everything just fell apart, I got NetGalley happy and requested a bunch of books I didn't think I would get approved for but ended up getting approved for.
May Update: Caught up on the NetGalley books! I am not putting any more requests in for a while. Went a little middle-grade crazy for possible Newbery winners....but literally every middle-grade book I've read this year has been amazing.
July Update: Finished Sherlock Holmes! Got some nonfiction in. Almost caught up on the books that I own (actually that's going to be never...)
September Update: Haven't read much from my goal list. I took a break from audiobooks and listened to a podcast about Star Trek for a few weeks. Got an ARC for Gilded and it took me forever because I just wasn't that into it. I also became obsessed with the videogame Hades and didn't read some days. I'm probably giving up on reading a monster classic, mostly because the library doesn't have the translation I want of the Tolstoy books. I might reread The Books of Babel before the last book comes out. I'm pretty excited about that one.
November Update: Didn't read much from the list. Stupid Mexican Gothic took me almost four months. Capped out my Newbery winners with some okay titles. The Lion of Mars or Amari and the Night Brothers are my picks from the ones I read. I want to get 3 more nonfiction books, Rule of Wolves, Well-Matched, and at least one other from the list finished before the end of the year.
December Update: Reread all the Books of Babel and finished The Fall of Babel for that stupid reunion. Edith is the best though so I'm not mad. Finished 3 more nonfiction books! But is it cheating to count biography, memoir, and humor as nonfiction? I got A Wish in the Dark from the library so I'll finish that before the end of the year, and we'll attempt Rule of Wolves. I'm ready to make my goal list for next year.
In conclusion: I rocked it. Except for a monster classic...but I did read Little Women and Wuthering Heights and finished the last two Sherlock Holmes collections so I don't feel awful. I purchased the translation I wanted of Anna Karenina so that will get done next year. I put a major dent in the ebooks I own, but I think I bought quite a few on sale so it'll be a goal for next year. Really proud of how many non-fiction I got in (not all on the list because I added it later but at least 15). I didn't go crazy overboard with possible Newbery winners! Okay, I ended up with a couple more than 12, but they're so easy to read and sometimes just 5-hour audiobooks which is an afternoon of errands. Biggest disappointment: Senlin's reunion with his wife and Gilded. Favorites: So many...The Midnight Library, Project Hail Mary, Under the Whispering Door, literally every non-fiction book on this list. Newbery Pick: Amari and the Night Brothers, The Lion of Mars, and Frankie and Bug is my too-woke pick.
