Chaste Blood

In the realm of the immortal courts, love is the deadliest weapon.

As a princess in the Shadow Court, Sinna lives a painfully sheltered life. Like all immortals, she has but one weakness… Love strips away an immortal’s power, leaving them vulnerable to attack. So when her fellow mages peer into the future and learn she is destined to love a rival king, they see an opportunity to seize power.

Sent to infiltrate the Blood Court of vampires, Sinna must seduce their king, and steal his immortality. But the price of failure is high. A thousand lifetimes of torture and imprisonment await her if she's discovered--not to mention the enslavement of her people.

Maddox, the Vampire King, is no fool. But despite his initial suspicions, he longs for the company of his fated mate. So when Sinna enters his realm and challenges his restraint, he's eager to test his limits--and hers. But lurking in the background, darker forces seek to make pawns of them both. And when Sinna's own feelings are compromised, she starts to wonder if she has been the target all along.

A quick read, but left much to be desired

I am not a fan of Main Characters sleeping around in my stories. Especially ones proposed to be fated mates. That just takes the whole point away from the phrase.

How can you know you’ll have a fated mate and go sleeping around or sleeping with other people with them in the room? It can be someone else’s cup of tea, but it surely is not mine. For all that build up of “you can’t resist each other” “you’ll want to give up immortality to be together” talk, was there no urge to only be with each other in the stipulations?

I didn’t feel the chemistry from the leads. One moment they were trying to avoid each other (understandable) the next 30days had passed and they had spent it talking on mundane things. Albeit, this is fine. You just want to be in the presence of those you love, but- 88% of the story was spent telling us how they were getting their rocks off with OTHER people and we couldn’t get more in-depth with how their relationship with each other was built? It was really just thrown together as we were nearing the end of the story.

There was ZERO respect for the so called royalty of the Shadow Clan. I mean, the SERVANT laid naked in bed after an escapade with the PRINCESS when the QUEEN walked in and not only did he made no move to cover himself, but he winked up at her and gave her a salute? Escape me? The Queen??? Where is the respect? Even the way the princess was spoken to by him and other servants. Yikes.

3 stars because I might read the next book in the series to see how they plan to address the ending with the Blood King. Even that. He came off as more an immature frat boy than a king.

I understand that a trilogy is being built here and you can’t do world building in the first book, but must take time to introduce new systems and courts, etc., but it all felt rushed - but not rushed at the same time. We got a lot of about the courts, but not even to understand the whole system. It wasn’t clear and at times felt quite convoluted. Here’s to hoping we’ll get a clearer insight in the second book.

Main characters were weak and underdeveloped if were being honest. Ronan was interesting. I wanted more on his background and the politics of the Blood Court with the council, but we never got that. We got was essentially brats who have never matured - one scene and then - boom, all of sudden they think Maddox is compromised at the end. What???? Where were the talks or hints among their courts that could have been used to imply what was happening behind the scenes?

TLDR; weak and boring main characters, more interesting characters sidelined, contrived conflict/plot.

Chaste Blood turns the Supernatural love story of finding your mate and it being the other half of your soul on its head. In this book finding you mate is a death sentence. It has a side effect of making you mortal. Which makes you a target to other immortals. So when Princess of the Shadow court - Sinna finds out her mate is The Blood King - Maddox she has to find a way to get close to him to assassinate him. Lines get blurred for both of them and that is dangerous. There was so many plot twists and turns im still not sure where everyone stands including Sinna. As well as who the good guys are and where their loyalties lie. Especially King Herod & King Delton. With that ending im looking forward to seeing what happens next. This was a great book to kick off this series and i really enjoyed reading it

I received an ARC of this book from Book Sirens and am leaving a review voluntarily.

King Maddox and Princess Sinna are powerful royals within their own kingdoms. Sinna has always wanted to be a Hunter, however, and recognizes her chance when her fated mate is revealed to be none other than the Vampire King himself.

But in order to prove herself a Hunter, Sinna must slay Maddox. The elders in Sinna’s kingdom decide they want her to infiltrate Maddox’s Blood Court as a spy and seduce him. For you see, in these faraway courts, love between royals is forbidden. Once a royal falls in love with another, the first to succumb loses his or her immortality, thereby opening the way for dethronement. Sinna’s goal, then, must be to make Maddox fall in love with her before she can fall for him and then end his mortal existence.

I thought this book was fair to middling. It’s a pretty short read - fewer than 200 pages by far - and went quickly. The copy was clean, and author Brittni Chenelle clearly knows how to write.

My main issue was that the story was simply not built up enough; this felt more like a novella than a novel.

I would love to have learned more about Chenelle’s world building, for it’s obvious she’s given this universe a great deal of thought, but I felt left out. It was like everyone in the novel knew exactly where they were going except for me. I was left in the dark to stumble from one chapter to the next mumbling, “Sorry! Excuse me; sorry, my bad,” similar to the way the way I mumbled as only a Midwesterner can while trying to figure out London’s Underground stations.

Once I did kind of figure out what was happening, I began to get lost somewhere in-between the chapters. I was several chapters in before I realized that the POV was switching. For you see, the POV of each chapter was written in teeny tiny font on the chapter pages that apparently I simply dismissed as irrelevant. Sigh.

Overall, the story has some possibilities. The precept of love making us weak is a universal theme. In Chenelle’s world, however, the weakness of adoration becomes literal, stripping away the all-powerful immortality that allows rulers to, well, rule.

By the end, however, I felt like I had gorged on a dozen glazed donuts: Full but unsatisfied and wanting something denser and more sustaining to carry along in my memory.

I really didn’t like this one which was disappointing because I love this author’s Gifted Fae Academy series. This one was just really weird to me. I didn’t like the main character, Sinna, she wasn’t likable and her only character trait was that she liked to have a good time with men and sometimes women too. There was really nothing special about her that made me want to root for her and I found her to be unlikeable and a little obnoxious. I didn’t like Maddox either, the vampire king male lead. He’s dark, brooding and ruthless, he fit into a familiar archetype with little variation to make him special. Maddox was pretty boring personality wise.

I usually love the supernatural fated trope where there’s a destined partner for the main character, but this book kinda turns that on its head where being fated is a weakness and all feelings of love must be extinguished in order to preserve eternal life. The romantic in me bristled at that for most of the book, hoping that Sinna and Maddox would be the exception and fall in love anyway–only that doesn’t happen until about 85% of the way and I couldn’t see how they really fell in love because both Sinna and Maddox spent the entire book sleeping with other people.

This book had an interesting concept but I think the unlikeable characters ultimately keeps me from wanting to read the sequels if they are released.

I loved the cross culture of players in this story. It gave an feel that I haven't felt in a long time. Turning the tables and make the heroine the way she did. Meant that both of these characters had something to loose. They weren't the typical enemies to lovers tale. This was a dangerous game and I can't wait for more.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

First I just have to say that Chenelle has created one fascinating new world. There are all these separate courts of supernaturals with the Blood Court pretty much on top after the huge war in the past. Sinna is from the Shadow Court which everyone thinks was annihilated yet really the survivors are living underground. It is their culture to divine their true mate but what comes next changed recently. In the past they could make a choice but now the mate must be killed because falling in love takes their immortality from them making them mortal. So imagine her surprise when Maddox, the king of the Blood Court, shows as her mate. With plans to destroy him in order to be a hunter she goes to his Court. He knows instantly that she is his mate but cannot help but be drawn to her. Their relationship progresses in secret no matter how much they fight it leading to one doozy of a cliff hanger ending. Makes for quite the fun read. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

Chaste Blood by Brittni Chenelle is a paranormal romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Lessa Lamb, VonDexter Montegut II, Jake McAskill, and Steven Rostance. This is the first book in the Repressed Royals series.

This is the first book of Brittni's that I have read, and it won't be my last. This book had a different spin on paranormals finding their fated mates that I found intriguing. I was left with a lot of questions so I can't wait for the next book Chaste Moon to be released.

Lessa, VonDexter, Jake, and Steven did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like paranormal romances.

This is one hell of a read! It grabbed me from the very beginning and would not let go until the very end! An exciting, steamy paranormal romance with dark twists and sensuous surprises, the characters are mysterious and intriguing , there’s vampires, mages, werewolves, and fae, it’s emotional and mind blowing, contains magic, politics and that ending!! I mean OMG!

We’re told they interact and boom they’re in love… also there were way too many chapters from random POVS that didn’t add enough context to be worth it imo.

If I could give this story zero I would!!!! This is a prime example of why I don’t take recommendations from others. I thought the blurb and the reviews should make this an interesting and gripping read, but I’ve never been proven wrong soo fast. I tend to like this genre but this book has put me in a reading slump and I’ve never skim read something soo fast, just to see it ended on a cliffhanger.

Not Your Usual Paranormal Soulmates Romance

Vampire lovers will be intrigued by Brittni Chenelle’s unique approach to predestined-mates. Magically-fated mates are frequently found in paranormal romance, but Chenelle subverts this trope.

Typically, in vampire romances, soulmates benefit their lovers in some important way. Sadly, you’ll have to wait until February 25th before you can read Chaste Blood to discover exactly how Chenelle’s destined mates are different.

Brittni Chenelle successfully subverts the paranormal soulmates trope in this thrilling vampire romance. Chaste Blood contains more political intrigue than Hamlet, and something smells rotten in the State of the Blood Court.

The Opening
There is action aplenty in the opening chapter of this vampire romance novel. The violent events and political consequences detailed in the opening scenes create a strong opening hook. I found myself eager to turn the pages.

The Characters
The female protagonist, Sinna, is a great sympathetic character… up to a point. She is loyal to her sister and wishes to do everything in her power to protect her race.

This is all well and good. However, in the opening chapters, Sinna is willing to see humans die to benefit her personal situation. Thankfully, her interactions with humans in later chapters somewhat redeem her.

I found it difficult to like the male protagonist, Maddox. He is unrepentant about the loss of human lives to vampire thirst. If he were to show more remorse through his thoughts, I would like him better.

In his defense, Maddox’s actions are forced by circumstances much of the time. But remember Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer? After regaining his soul, he was tormented by the foul acts he committed. Sometimes, Maddox appears to have no soul.

The Plot
Chenelle’s destined mate system creates interesting conflicts not found in other paranormal romance novels. This leads to a unique and exciting plotline.

The tensions between the various courts filled with different mythical creatures create an interesting background to the developing romance between Sinn and Maddox. It is easy to see who the male protagonists will be for later novels in the Repressed Royals paranormal romance series.

The climax of the story comes in the closing chapters. Despite the usual predictability of paranormal soulmate romance, I promise the ending of Chaste Blood is not what you’re expecting. It will undoubtedly have you yearning for the next book in this series.

The Setting
I love Chenelle’s destined mate system. It is an interesting subversion of the soulmate trope in paranormal romance. It also leads to fantastic conflicts within this vampire novel.

However, I have concerns about the general physical setting of this paranormal romance novel. There are rival courts populated by different mythical species. All these appear to be located near one tiny mortal town. With the whole world to choose from, why would these warlike creatures live within walking distance of their mortal enemies?

In some fantasy novels, an explanation is offered for such geographical anomalies. For example, magical creatures must live close to some lay line conversion or a magical rift in order to survive. No reasons for their close proximity are hinted at in this vampire romance.

Also, the historical setting threw me a little. In the opening chapters, there are no hints at technology. Instead, we see bladed weapons aplenty and Gothic buildings. This made me presume a generic medieval or Rennaisance setting where mythical creatures exist.

A quarter way through the novel, there is a bathing scene. Sinna is surprised when she finds that a bottle is made from glass and not squeezy. Soon after this, her dress is zipped up. These apparently anachronistic events shattered my “suspension of disbelief” for a moment.

There’s nothing wrong with setting a fantasy romance in the modern age, but a little warning is needed. If Sinna wore a watch in the opening chapters or someone talked on the telephone, the modern items thrown into the story a quarter of the way through wouldn’t have confused me as they did.

The Prose
Although the first-person narrative was engaging and generally free from error, there were times when I felt the editing could have been better. For example, once the word “gate” was used instead of “gait”, another time “peace” is used in place of “piece”.

There is a paragraph in the middle of the book where the word “home” is used three times across two consecutive sentences. Near the end of the novel, Sinna says, “Make a fool out myself [sic].” Individually, these are insignificant issues. Over the course of a novel, they add up to make the reading process less pleasurable.

My Opinion
Despite my dislike for the male protagonist and my belief that the physical setting could have been better thought out, the interesting destined mate system and conflicts within this novel kept me reading. I’m going to award this book 4 out of 5 because I enjoyed it.

I suspect the later books in the Repressed Royals series will be better as we get to know and care more for characters like Herod and Delton. In my opinion, the other kings are more appealing protagonists.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Warning slight spoilerly

Chaste Blood is the first book in the Repressed Royals series by Brittni Chenelle and damn! Honestly, I am a confused and emotional mess after finishing the book. I thought was getting a quick but intriguing look into a supernatural world filled with royal courts and intrigue, what I got was all that and an emotional bomb...W.T.F. I was not ready for what came, nope, not at all. The only reason Chaste Blood didn't get a higher rating because I couldn't really connect to the characters until the end (that ending!!!) and I felt a little disconnected through the story. I think mostly it's because of how these people view mates. I love stories about mates, people meant just for each other, someone that is gonna love a person and all their faults and is there, I have trouble with the rejected mates storyline and this one is so close to that. In a world filled with powerful vampires, mages, werewolves, and fae, they view mortality as weakness, which if you read paranormal romance, makes sense. However, to view mates as a weakness instead of a gift, the fact that mates make these supernaturals mortal is a crazy and unique twist to the story and I was not ready for the damage this book wielded.

It takes some time to untangle things, four supernatural courts exist in the modern world, the Shadow Court who are mages, werewolves of the Moon Court, the Blood Court are vampires, and the Arrow Court are made up of fae. Each court is vying for power and is very dangerous to the other courts in their own right, then there is the mess each court has to deal with in-house. Sinna is from the shadow court and when she finds out her mate is the Blood King she is determined to take him out, not only to ensure her immortality but to put her court back on top. While at times Sinna seems a little cold and calculating, she also seems to care about most beings, she is dutiful to her people and is willing to do what she has to, believing that she can accomplish her mission. I didn't like her at first but after a while, I couldn't help but like her and she and Maddox seem perfect for each other. At first, the interactions are terrible but then they grow closer and I see Maddox from a whole new light and I realize just how impossible the situation is when everyone from all the courts wants blood, has a stake in what's happening between them.

As I said before Brittni has taken the basic concepts of the supernatural, mates, magic, and so much more and turned it into a whole new concept and I really enjoyed it. Seeing the magic and wonder of each court was interesting but brief, I hope that more with each court will develop over the series. I also loved trying to figure out what Sinna's next move was gonna be and to see Maddox's reaction to things was interesting, to say the least. The last few chapters of the book had me riveted and it killed me. The ending surprised me in more ways than one, I mean gawd, the emotional mess that it left me in was not okay, I am not okay. I have no idea what's gonna happen in the next book but I'm hoping for fewer emotional scars.

Chaste Blood is a dual perspective paranormal romance, that has magic, supernatural politics, intrigue, mind games, and more. I have a few questions that I would answered in the next book in the series so here is to hoping I get them.

Chaste Blood is the first book in Brittni Chenelle’s Repressed Royals series. In this book the author introduces readers to two star-crossed characters – Sinna and Maddox. Maddox is the Blood King and he rules over the Blood Court. He has earned the reputation of being cruel and heartless. Then there is Sinna. She’s a princess in the Shadow Court. Her sister rules, and now the time has come for Sinna to be shown who her mate is. The danger is the same for Sinna and Maddox, discover who your mate is and destroy them if you wish to retain your immortality, but what will happen when these two cross paths? Sinna intends to kill him to free herself, but can she accomplish the task she has taken on?
Chaste Blood is an interesting book overall, and I have to say…despite some moments of where Sinna annoys me at times, this book really grabs my attention and keeps me page-turning to learn what happens next. This book has some really interesting moments and I like how the author flits back and forth between Maddox and Sinna and that the chapters are clearly distinguished. Maddox is an intriguing character but I personally view his right-hand man, Ronan, to be far more dangerous. Maddox intrigues me because he comes off more as looking for something that he believes is truly unattainable.
Sinna is an interesting character, but there are moments of where I view her more as a petulant child. I like and appreciate how she comes to her sister’s aid in a particular scene. I will say that there are some scenes of where I felt that things went a little too often in a particular character’s favor. Sinna is “sneaking” into another court and so when the author hints “things go wrong from there” I was expecting her “shadow” to be discovered sooner.
All in all, I’m looking forward to the next book in this series. The author really leaves readers on the edge of their seat to learn what happens next as nothing is truly definitive in how this book comes to a close. I am choosing to rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. If you enjoy paranormal romance novels then I encourage you to pick up this book.

Let me start off by saying that I have yet to be disappointed with a Brittni Chenelle book. This book was no different.

It is a classic enemies to lover story about Sinna, the princess of the Shadow Court, and Maddow, the King of the Blood Court. In a world of fated mates, if you are immortal, your fated mate can make you human and you can die. This is the reason for the Shadow Clan's almost demise. In this world, finding your mate isn't celebrated or enjoyed - normally. When it is discovered that Sinna is the fated mate of Maddox, they plan to use this information to their advantage and kill the King. Only…. Things don't go as planned, as you can imagine.

Chaste Blood was a quick read, only taking me a few hours to finish it overall. I definitely think it could have been three times its length and I wouldn't have noticed, since it's was full of information, story and tension. However, I almost wish it WAS a little longer so we could have seen Maddox & Sinna develop their feelings a little more. I wasn't a huge fan when it jumped 30 days of them getting to know each other.

It had a steady pace of plot and flow, and there were no big surprises or changes. There was nothing that really made me gasp, cry, or have an intense reaction about. I feel like it would have been nice to get some clarity on Maddox's last conversation with Sinna from when they first met - why didn't we know anything about his realization/feelings?

Overall, it was the perfect book to start off the new year. Enemies to lovers has always been a comfort trope for me, so it was easy to binge this book once I got started on it.

Before I begin my review for Chaste Blood (Repressed Royals book 1) by Brittni Chenelle, I would personally like to thank the author and Booksprout the opportunity to read this ARC and I have reviewed it honestly.

Princess Sinner is an immortal from the Shadow Court. As all immortals, Sinner fears finding her mate. To fall in love is to lose your immortality. When peering into her future finds the rival Blood King to be her mate, the opportunity is used to infiltrate his court, take his immortality and stab him through the heart. Immerse yourself within an unlikely paranormal world where mates are hated and succumbing to the attraction is feared.

Chaste Blood features, but is not limited to, the following themes:
○ NA romance
○ Dark fantasy
○ Paranormal
○ Royals
○ Spies and Assassins
○ Fated mates

My overall rating for Chaste Blood is…

3.5 Stars!

This book lacked something, but I just can't put my finger on what it was! I think it was a combination of the writing style and characters. Dont get me wrong, Chenelle has impressive skill with writing, but the words just didn't affect me like I craved. As to the characters, I loved their persona's, powers and characteristics, but the interactions and attractions were a bit bland. The book is also described as dark fantasy, but i didn't find it overly dark. I do, however, believe a lot of readers will really enjoy this book and I recommend having a read for yourself.

I am somewhere at 3.5 stars with this book.
The general setup with fated mates and enemies to lovers trope is very interesting, especially set into the world of magic and court politics. Werewolves, fae, mages, and vampires form the four courts with vampires at the top of the food chain and shadow mages believed to be extinct. When Sinna, the princess of Shadow Court, discovers in divination ceremony that she is mated to the Vampire King, things are set into motion. Joining the Blood Court as a spy under the guise of a tribute, her sole mission is to prove she can be a Hunter and assassinate the King - by seducing him to fall in love with her and lose his immortality. But the tether between them goes both ways..
Very fast read, the length more suitable for a novella, which in certain aspects is more of a shortcoming than advantage. There were parts where I felt rushed and the world building was just pushed into background without giving the reader enough information and details to process fully what is going on . I also struggled to create a connection with the main characters, the Fae and Moon Kings more interesting in the end than the main couple. Maddox is interesting with all the conflicting sides to him, but I'd love to see more, and Sinna simply felt as naive sheltered girl who thought how clever and cunning she is until the realization hit full force. But the ending redeemed her a bit, and I sense more to her to come, so I'd like to read the next book too.

We humans like to think that love makes us stronger and when two become one that strength can conquer any problem. But what if finding your mate meant losing your power, your immortality, your life, would you still want it? That is the premise and the problem of the four kingdoms - The arrow court (Fae), Shadow Court (mages), Moon Court (werewolves) and the Blood Court (vampire). They are constantly in a state of trying to conquer and to survive. Love is a weakness, a deadly weakness that no one wants. Enter Maddox King of the Blood Court, his own parents dead because of love and Sinna who's sister is Queen of the Shadow court who's parents also died because of love. So if the desire is to stay immortal why not just live life as a monk. It seems the need to connect (teether) may not be avoided. This is an interesting take on paranormal worlds and as much as I tried to get into it I felt the need to go back reread moments to understand what might be happening. The ending left me wondering what? I really liked the concept but felt something was missing and I don't know what it is.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "CHASTE BLOOD" This is my read by Brittni Chenelle she did a great job writing this unique, interesting, intriguing, suspense filled world full of Vampires, Mage, Werewolves, Fae with a twist that makes this an addicting story from beginning to end.
This world consists of Four Courts the Shadow Court for Mage, Moon Court for Werewolves, Blood Court for Vampires, Arrow Court for Fae, each one vying for power which makes it dangerous to each of the courts.
Sinna is from the Shadow Court she wants to a hunter a seer tells her that her mate is the Blood King Maddox a rival Court the things about mates it effects their immortality if she kills the Blood King she keeps her immortality and her Court will seize power.
Maddox is suspicious of Sinna his mate when she arrives testing her & himself but their darker forces at stake here wanting to use them as pawns will they figure it out get their HEA.
I defintely recommend to get this book such a unique interesting take on the Paranormal Realms it pulls you in the ending will leave you wanting so much more I can't wait for the next book to what happens next.

It Was Alright Kinda

*****Spoilers*****

This is not your typical romance. Maddox and Sinna get a few months together and one night of intimacy. Maddox is the blood king and a vampire, Sinna is a blood mage of the shadow court and is on a mission to kill Maddox. Turns out, immortals can become mortal when they fall in love with their true mate, which is what Maddox and Sinna are to one another. While she's on a mission to end him once he falls in love with her, he's unsure what to do about the tether that ties them together until we learn in the end that he was willing to give up his immortal life and die. Whether he actually dies and stays dead for the sake of the next book, I can't say but this one ends with Maddox dying from a stab wound given him without a fight by Sinna's shadow guard. That part is interesting that Maddox wasn't being played by Sinna but plotting to let her take his life.

Not so great points. The main characters hooking up with other people was different but the emotions were also a no show so I wasn't a jealous reader either. Not enough explanation about the war, each court and its supernatural, or hierarchy outside of Maddox.

3.5 stars to be exact. This was another ARC from Hidden Gem books. So this is the first book for me by this author. I love the multi POV for the story. To be truthful, I was kind of loss of what was going on until towards and the end. The character development was on point but left me wanting more. I am curious to know if what going to happen to Sienna and Maddox’s story.

I love paranormal love stories but this one had so much going on. There were vampires, werewolves, witches and fae (or fairies)... so it has it all. I kind of curious about the background of everything. There is so much to unravel wit this one. [I feel line I am all over the place.] I don’t want to give anything away.

I love how this author uses the love theme but in a completely unique way...unlike nothing I have ever read before. It’s in the synopsis so I don’t think I am giving it away...in this story Love weakens the power of these supernatural beings...Interesting right??? Something tells me however that Sienna maybe a little different and her power will be like no other....
......Happy Reading!!!!

Sinna is a princess of the Shadow Court. Maddox is the King of the Blood Court. They are powerful royals within their own kingdoms. With this author’s interpretation of fated mates, an immortal’s fated mate can reduce the other to a vulnerable human able to be killed. So it’s not always a good thing to find your mate because it can be a death sentence. Since a ritual reveals Sinna is the fated mate of Maddox and has always wanted to be a Hunter, the elders in her kingdom hope to use this fact to get rid of the King.

Sinna is told to go to the Blood Court and seduce Maddox. Whoever falls first will lost their immortality. She will need to make sure that he falls for her first. Then when he is mortal, he can be killed.

But there is another danger in the shadows, preparing to attack. And while Maddox is distracted with running the kingdom and being seduced by his mate, he may not be aware of the imminent danger. Will they recognize the threat in time? Or will both of them lose their lives?

Overall, I enjoyed this book and I am excited to read the next book in the series. I loved the new take on Vampires, Werewolves, and Fae! Maddox and Sinna were great main characters, and the storyline flowed quickly. The secondary characters were also interesting and I hope we get more information about them in future books. Although I enjoyed this book, and I think the series has great potential, I did personally find there was some depth to the characters and world building that was missing. I constantly wanted more information, which to a point is great, but passed into feeling like the book was lacking slightly. I needed more insight into the characters thoughts and feelings to really feel like I was entering a new world while reading. The book didn't have the all consuming, can't put it down feeling I look for in truly great books. However, it was still a good fast read that I would recommend.

Twisted Fated mates concept! Political Hijinks!
Loved, loved, loved this book!

By completely turning the fated mate’s trope on its head the author creates a stunning story and a plot point to hold the attention of readers! Fated mates are a bad thing in this book (read to find out why, you will not be disappointed), and it just makes it incredibly unique and interesting to read.

The plot is amazing, from the craziness that comes with the fated mate plot as well as all the inner workings and political intrigue, this makes for an absolutely blinding read. It’s such a fresh interesting take, that I personally haven’t encountered before (obviously I want more).

I loved both characters and even when they are at odds, I can often see both perspectives, which is a feat in itself. I loved this novel and of course there is the required steam!

I absolutely cannot wait for the next book.

This cover and the models chosen to be these characters are gorgeous!
Princess Sinna is from the Shadow Court and King Maddox is from the Blood Court. I actually did not like Sinna in the beginning as she came off cold and distant. I grew to love her though especially close to the end!
The way these characters view mates intrigued me very similar to ‘rejected mates’. This actually reminded me of the movie Hancock in the way that mates make each other weaker and more human.
I absolutely adore the sub genre of enemies to lovers. It’s seriously fascinating to watch the characters come together.
This book 100% kept me on my toes. I was constantly guessing what was going to happen next and that ending.... WOW. Wth
Such an awesome read! I seriously cannot wait for book 2 to see what this bunch will get up to next.

Okay, in the beginning I admit to feeling a little lost. But as the story progressed, I felt invested in the struggles of both Maddox and Sinna. I, in truth could not understand the desires of the human women to become tribute to the Blood King for a chance to be gifted immortality. It seemed that is quite a weak part of the storyline since hundreds of years have passed with all of them tributes being drained of blood and left as lifeless corpses.
All in all, this is a good beginning of a new series. I cant wait for the next book and see what's in store for Maddox and Sinna, as well as the other Kings.

Why I gave it 4.5 stars instead of 5 before I get any further I hate giving anything less than 5 stars because you know this is someone's work. But I also want people to know why I gave the rating I did so without further ado my review.

The beginning of the story is what really caught my attention it was quite an exciting way to start the story. Don't get me wrong I did like the story but I felt like something was missing between the beginning and the middle of the story. But the rest of it I LOVE! The characters are AMAZINGLY written and I need to know what happens to a certain character because that ending almost had me crying! I really enjoyed this book and I hope you'll like this story as well.

A great start to a paranormal romance series

Sinna, a princess in the believed extinct Shadow Court, has a huge surprise when her fated mate is revealed as Maddox, King of the Blood Court. As the story progresses a decision is made, magic comes to play, and the outcome may not be what is desired. Brittni Chenelle’s Chaste Blood is a great start to a paranormal romance series. I really liked all the characters and found myself wondering what will happen next. If you do not like cliffhangers, you will want to wait for the series to finish before reading.

I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

When you have four different courts of supernatural beings vying for power, you know things are going to get messy. Cue Sinna, the MFC and part of the Shadow Court (mages). When she finds out her mate is from the Blood Court and the Vampire King himself Maddox, the only conceivable thing she can think to do is to try to kill him. Not only does she have no interest in having a mate outside her court to make herself weak, but she also wants the Shadow Court to rise through the ranks and be the court with the most power. Through a lot of interesting interactions and missteps, the two start to find they truly are meant to be. But in a world where being the most powerful is the only way to survive, can their love endure? I cannot wait to find out what will happen next in book 2!

I enjoyed this story a lot. This was the first book in the "Repressed Royals" series and once I started the audiobook, I had to listen until its conclusion. The world building was phenomenal and populated with paranormal beings. The characters were complex. The story was convoluted and had some surprising twists. I would describe this book as dark fantasy, and there were some descriptive sexual scenes, so I would recommend it to more mature readers. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Lessa Lamb's, VonDexter Montegut II's, Jake McAskill's, and Steven Rostance's narrations were delightful to listen to and added entertainment to this story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

This book was heartbreakingly breathtaking. It had suspense and well written characters, combined with full blown emotion that won’t let go of you, even when you close the book at its end. Don’t even get me started on the ending. My heart is STILL racing. Sinna is trying to be everything she’s supposed to be, with honor and integrity, to the end. Her only downfall is she’s no longer sure if that’s the right thing to do, or if she even wants to do it. She’s left questioning herself, and everything her court believes in. This book has left me speechless.
