Contains extreme gore and violence. When Stacy goes to a party during a pandemic THE VIRUS is the least of her problems. What takes place is nothing short of pure adrenaline, creeptastic terror. A book you won't want to put down.
This is so fun! I mean, the first thing I wanted to do during/after reading was put my mask back on, because THE pandemic is front and center here- and with a twist. I used to wonder what was happening with all those makeshift tents and full hospitals and my mind went to dark places. But Penny has taken it to the next step. This was a joy to read, I finished it in two sittings. Good horrific details. A good sense of humor. The book transported me to the horrific 2020, and then into the realm of beyond. Equally thrilling is that this is an audio book, which made it even more fun! Referencing things we recall from 2020 such as Joe Exotic and the mask-less parties, all reminders and observations of a very strange time in our lives. And "The Virus" travels you into new terrain of terror that we (did not?) see in 2020.
I really enjoyed this book. I was given the opportunity to read an ARC and I liked it. It gave a new spin on the virus stories that we have been getting. My biggest complaint is how predictable it gets at the end. Personally I was kind of hoping that Stacy would wake up in the hospital being told that she was under arrest for murder because she hallucinated everything.

This just wasn't it for me. Set within the pandemic but not hugely doing anything with the setting, this plot could occur with any illness really as it's a (loose) trigger point for the plot rather than a major player.
The main character is a cardboard cutout, hardly able to form thoughts, and the writing relies too heavily on showing AND telling, leaving a bit of a narrative mess that doesn't get anywhere before we finally dash into a predictable ending.
I appreciate what Penny Moonz was going for here but frankly she misses the mark.
I just love Penny’s books. They are so ridiculous and fun. This one is an outlandish parody of something we have all dealt with and this flipped it upside down. Do not read this book if you want a serious story. This is nothing but goofy characters and storyline and you have to just want a good giggle.
Penny Moonz is a very talented comedic horror writer. Natalie Fields enhanced the story and helped with the story movement.
The Fmc faces challenges of socializing during 2020. This story is historical fiction with a ton of laughter and creepiness all rolled up into one enjoyable story.
