I think I am much more forgiving of this book than I am of the first.
That is not to say this one is any less derivative or less of a collection of popular tropes interwoven with pointless pop culture references. I personally feel, like the first book, the majority of these do not properly stick their landing.
However, this book does have some concepts in it that made me sit back and thing, "Hey, that is a good idea." Or, even, "Wow, that is seriously messed up. How is it I never thought of that all my years of GM'ing?"
I think this book--slog that it was--was worth reading. Not sure I can say I am looking forward to the final book in the trilogy, but I can say I will be reading it for sure.
