Sara Whitney writes spicy rom-coms so addictive, you'll finish them in one sitting and immediately stalk her for the next book. Her sassy heroines and alpha-sweet heroes who'll make you laugh out loud on one page and absolutely wreck you on the next.
A recovering journalist and film critic who went rogue and got a Ph.D., Sara splits her time between professing, writing swoony smut, and badgering her friends to watch her latest TV obsessions. She lives in Illinois in a house with hot pink hallways and three sweet but sociopathic cats who'd like you to know they're on the brink of starvation (despite their ample proportions as evidence to the contrary). Through it all, she survives on Swedish Fish, overly sweet coffee, Yankees baseball, and the unwavering belief that red lipstick can fix almost anything.
If you want a quick second chance in which the MCs meet again over the last bag of discounted halloween candy and don't want to think about how they could've been together this whole time if they'd just TALKED to each other, or I don't know, emailed, this is it. The premise here is that they each thought the other had ghosted - he changed his number because of a work mishap and he thought she quit without a word while he was on a business trip. He was supposed to have been her mentor at the state's attorney office where they met so they had a professional relationship so why didn't he call her when he returned to ask her why she quit unexpectedly? Why didn't she email him to ask why he'd changed his number? Their conflict was so dumb, but if you can get over that, it's fine.
This amusing romance novella takes place around Halloween between two attorneys, State assistant prosecutor, Daniel and Tessa, a private practice attorney. They are brought together by a bag of candy and a court case. Daniel was Tessa's mentor up until she resigned and they both thought they had been ghosted by the other. There is always two sides to every story and this is about these two endearing characters reconnecting and finally ironing out their misunderstandings with the help of some candy. Both characters were immensely likeable and the story read like a Hallmark movie. A feel good, fun read.
When a story is as fun and seemingly effortless as this one, I know a lot of skill and hard work went into it. There’s a bit of a second chance, a little misunderstanding, and a lot of laughs in this snack-size story. Read it at Halloween or any time. It’s pure enjoyment. This was my first read of Sara Whitney, but it won’t be my last.
Sweet and spicy second chance romance short story. Well done, with intelligent dialogue, believable misunderstandings, smolder, sexy times, and chocolate candy. Highly recommended.
Sweet, funny, cute and sexy story which I couldn't put down. I'll definitely be reading more of Sara's stories in the future. Really well written with engaging characters. I loved it!
This novella is so good. It's got a bit of humor. Then the storyline is rather interesting but it works. The H and h get a second chance but not before they talk and find out where things didn't work the first time. Overall it was a decent story that I enjoyed.
Angsty good read! Misunderstanding and miscommunication lead this pair on a merry chase. Daniel was her mentor at the DA's office. Tessa was hurt when he seemed to ghost her. Seemed was the key factor that kept them apart for six long months. They meet back up over Dr. Spooky candy search and then things get complicated.
