It's good but not great.

I enjoyed the author's other works 'Run Wild: Sa Ye' a lot more.

Sadly, I've only been able to read 31/ 102 chapters because they were decently translated by a fellow BL fan. But I just couldn't put myself through reading the rest on MTL.

As always the characters Cheng Ke (MC) and Jiang Yu Duo (ML) were likeable. If this ever gets an official English translation then I would definitely be up for giving it another read.

I'm undecided about whether to give the donghua a watch tbh due to censorship.

Y sinceramente no podría aaa.

I learned about the web novel because I saw the donghwa “Antidote" a while back.

Since it's a Chinese production, all the parts of the story even hinting a little of gay relationship and not “sworn brotherhood" relationship is heavily edited. So I think the donghua needs to stand on it's own, and the web novel judged as a separate story.

Never the less, it's still the story of how Cheng Ke (28) met Jiang YuDuo (25ish) and how they get together to become true lovers.

Ke has just been thrown out of his parental home for being, in his own words, “a waste of a young master, and gay” (even if he insists that his parents would have been okay with him being gay, but later it comes out that they felt really embarrassed about it), and left with just the clothes on his back, his watch and some cigs in his jacket pocket. His younger brother Yi, who btw hates him, finds him and throws him his wallet. In it there’s only his ID card and a 1000 yuan note (~100€).

From this shitty low point, he gets into a fight with Youduo about a trash can (in which he threw the wallet in a fit of anger at his brother) and a small kitten. Both men fight, and even if Ke has Taekwondo skills Yoduo fights him like he’s possessed. Pretty violent first encounter. After that, our author throws the young men together in all possible ways; them becoming landlord and renter, in the supermarket, on the street, making Ke loose and forget his keys a bunch of times... But after a while Ke’s ”young spoiled master” behaviour makes Yuduo realize how harmless and different Ke is from his other ”friends” and makes him end up trusting him. From trust comes affection, from that attraction, and from all of these comes both desire and love.

The important relationship scenes in the story, however, differ greatly between the novel and the animation;

- the first time Ke shows Yoduo sand painting, using salt, the scene ends with Ke kissing Yoduo because of a drunken impulse - and Yuduo not knowing how to respond but not hating it.

- At a later scene, Ke breaks his wrist because of Yuduo’s sudden reaction to them trying to hug and drunk kiss him again. At this point, it's become apparent that Yuduo is both new to anything close to intimacy and has deep psychological trauma due to his violent childhood.

- in the scene where Ke gets his birthday gift, which in the donghua ins the clockwork heart, here it's another thing and it's the start of Yuduo later daring to ask Ke to "save him”. After that, he doesn't leave to get hospitalized until he realizes that he needs more help than just Ke to help with his issues.

- the donghua has Ke going to pick up Yuduo from the hospital. In the novel, Ke decides to "never leave him” and instead going after Yuduo by searching hospitals for him. This ends with Yuduo finally becoming an out-patient and leave with Ke after a week. After they arrive home, which is now Yuduo’s flat, they have sex for the first time and they’re both okay with it. Yuduo’s even able to joke about it later in a restaurant, when they're out with the street gang, about how his technique must be better than Ke’s because he’s sore and Ke isn't. (Thank goodness for the author writing them as a normal ”seke”/reversible couple!)

- the opening of the milk tea restaurant at the end, and the strawberry wine birthday gift before it, has Yuduo telling Ke how much he treasures and love him (with the ”you’re my real boyfriend” dialoque). Ke replying with a gentle ”I love you”, makes them finally arrive at the opposite of their violent loathing of one another at the start of the novel.

The web novel is getting a scanalated translation, and is now at chapter 16, but I read the hastily machine translated raws and was okay with it. I would love to buy a proper copy of it when one becomes available.

Me gustó, debo decir.

Pretty disappointed with this one. It had the potential to be something great but really misses the mark for me. The characterization is weak. Neither of the leads' backstories are fully flushed out and feels hazily thrown together. I was invested just enough to keep reading and didn't really care about either of them. The story leaves me pretty unsatisfied as well. The way everything resolves feels way too easy and not really earned.

I recommend checking content warnings before reading !! There’s a carrd that has all the information that I recommend checking out.

Absolutely loved it. Slice of life with dark undertones, but author does a wonderful job of making it fluffy and funny at the same time. Two wounded people finding each other, learn to love and rely on each other and grow as people. Taking steps to better themselves.

It came to no one’s surprise that I absolutely loved this webnovel, given that it’s also written by Wu Zhe it’s hard not to love it.

It’s a slice of life novel, and it does have a realistic feeling but not to the point where it’s boring. It’s a heartwarming and healing story, we read about the characters struggles and how they overcome it and begin a relationship. Platonic at first, to a one side crush, to a two sided crush and then a relationship. It isn’t to get to this point, because there’s a lot of other circumstances that stand in their way from having a healthy relationship.

The characters are developed in a way where you grow attached and just long for their happiness. JYD and CK have each gone through their individual struggles, both very different from each other but somehow they work perfectly.

This story does deal with very serious themes, and can get dark at times but the author does a wonderful job of blending in some comedic undertones or even some silly situations. It can get very fluffy and it’s to the point where you forget the dark undertones at times. Both characters do such a good job at comforting and just loving each other, their love language is so beautifully sweet. The story begins with two wounded characters who feel alone despite having been surrounded by people, for it to end with both of them growing to love and rely on each other. The side characters are also very fun, and somewhat comforting (the good characters). I also loved seeing a bit of character growth from a person who we all saw as a villain at first. But I loved how to author didn’t fix their relationship entirely, the person had already damaged their relationship beyond repair and CK doesn’t need to help fix it at this point but it was still little steps.

It’s written so well, the characters dynamics are done so perfectly and just the way the author intertwines everything is amazing. I know I’m repeating things but I don’t how else to describe how much I loved this novel.

Amé Antidote y completamente, amé a Wu Zhe.
Y amarán a Miau 😭💕

Ahhhh, this author is just always hitting the right spots in my heart. This one is treading complex trauma and difficult family affairs, which both hit too close to home.

I truly enjoyed their story so much. It was quite painful at times, but also funny and fluffy in blance. Their bond is so nicely developed, and I love the quotidian scenes of domesticity and little moments of self-discovery in the absurd or funny- yet relatable scenes.

It just felt so real and tangible. They heal, and it is in a very realistic way, with ups and downs, and it ends up in a not perfect yet good enough state. This is the happiest of endings sometimes, and I am thankful for this author who keeps conveying this in such beautiful ways.

I hope this book gets picked up by another translator or a publishing team. The current translations are not quite what the story deserves. Even through the error-filled and what seems to be MLT, the narrative and the characters' emotions and complexities still manage to shine through. Now that SA YE got picked up, hopefully this does as well !!!

This will stay in my heart~

I actually can't rate this properly because the translation is pretty bad. It might have been a 5-star read if I didn't get confused all the time, and I've probably missed a deeper connection with the characters because of that.

All I can say is this story is one of the few. The way it portrayed a relationship is down-to-earth and closer to reality than other books (and by that I mean with problems, misunderstandings and arguments), and it handles the deeper issues well, too. It hooked me from the start with all the intrigues, clashes, and mysteries surrounding the kicked-out young master & the gangster boss. And the last 20% of the book is so emotionally moving as one of the main characters embarked on a healing journey.

I hope this book will be picked up by a publisher one day. In the mean time... maybe I should learn Chinese? 🤔😂

Good novel. I like the way the author connects the most important points for story and character development. This is the second book of hers that I've read, and like SaYe, it's really good. The main characters haver a "darker" background story than in SaYe, but it essentially follows the same plot of mutual helping.
