Easy Czech Elementary is made for English speaking students who are absolute beginners in the Czech language. Its goal is to teach students the fundamental communicative knowledge of Czech needed to handle everyday situations while living in the Czech Republic. It strives to make learning the language as easy as possible for those who have no previous exposure to Czech. New vocabulary and syntax are introduced gradually to avoid overwhelming students with complex rules and unknown words. This way the students learn just enough new material in each section of the book to start communicating immediately. However, achieving basic communication skills is not the only focus of this book. It also gives students a solid elementary knowledge of the Czech grammatical system and thus serves as an appropriate foundation for further studies of the language. The book is designed for both teacher-led group or individual courses, but is also ideal for individual learning because all of the instructions are in English. The book contains 12 units which focus on specific communication topics and are divided into sections on Vocabulary, Grammar, Communication, Reading, Listening and Phonetics. These sections present specific areas of the language and enable the student to use and practice the acquired knowledge in a variety of exercises and communicative situations. At the end of each unit there is a Practice section that reviews what has been taught, a Language summary that covers the core language structures presented in the unit and a list of new Vocabulary. At the end of the book the student will find useful reference materials. The chapter called Self-study summary reviews all of the grammar taught in the book. There is also a complete list of the vocabulary presented in the book that can be used by students as a mini-dictionary while studying as well as a key to the exercises and a script of the recordings on CD that accompany the book.
