I am Misty Vixen (not my real name obviously), and I imagine that if you’re reading this, you want to know a bit more about me.
In the beginning (late 2014), I was an erotica author. I wrote about sex, specifically about human men banging hot inhuman women. Monster girls, alien ladies, paranormal babes. It was a lot of fun, but as the years went on, I realized that I was actually striving to be a harem author. This didn’t truly occur to me until late 2019-early 2020. Once the realization fully hit, I began doing research on what it meant to be a harem author. I’m kind of a slow learner, so it’s taken me a bit to figure it all out.
That being said, I’m now a harem author!
Just about everything I write nowadays is harem fiction: one man in loving, romantic, highly sexual relationships with several women. Nowadays, I tend to write more human on human stuff, but I still have a lot of non-human ladies in mind for the future, so if that’s your thing then stick around.
I’d say beyond writing harems, I tend to have themes that I always explore in my fiction, and they encompass things like trust, communication, respect, honesty, dealing with emotional problems in a mature way…basically I like writing about functional and healthy relationships. Not every relationship is perfect, but I don’t really do drama unless the story actually calls for it. In total honesty, I hate drama. I hate people lying to each other and I hate needless rom-com BS plots that could have been solved by two characters having a two minute conversation.
I would not recommend this book to my worst enemy. One quarter of this spew is nothing but lousy sex. One sex scene took almost 22 pages. What drivel. In my humble opinion this is not worth pursuing. It still amazes me that people rate this crap with five stars. Pass on this one.
The chilling yet captivating world of "A Warm Place," an audiobook penned by Misty Vixen is brought to life by narrators Gabriel Michael and Katana Jones in 2022. This post-apocalyptic tale, the first in a series, blends survivalist grit with intimate human connections, offering a unique twist on the dystopian genre. It’s a brisk yet deeply engaging listen that left me reflective, wondering what anyone would do in a world such as the one in this book.
The story unfolds in 2036, two years after a catastrophic global snowstorm has plunged Earth into an unrelenting ice age. Billions have perished, and the remnants of humanity scrape by in isolated settlements or as lone wanderers. Enter Chris Weston, our protagonist, a rugged nomad whose wanderlust and survival skills make him a natural fit for this frozen wasteland. Vixen crafts Chris as a compelling figure - strong yet introspective, a man shaped by loss but driven by resilience. His journey begins with a brutal setback: injured and robbed during a blizzard, he’s forced to rely on his wits and the unexpected companionship of others to survive.
What sets "A Warm Place" apart is its fusion of stark survivalism with emotional depth. The audiobook doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of its world - starvation, danger, and the constant threat of nature’s wrath - but it balances these with moments of tenderness and connection. Chris encounters a cast of characters, primarily women, whose relationships with him evolve from necessity to something more complex. Vixen excels at weaving these dynamics into the narrative, exploring trust, desire, and mutual reliance without letting them overshadow the survival stakes. The dialogue is sharp and authentic, reflecting the characters’ humanity amid desolation.
The narration by Gabriel Michael and Katana Jones elevates the experience significantly. Michael’s gravelly, measured tone perfectly captures Chris’s stoic yet thoughtful nature, while Jones brings a dynamic range to the female characters, infusing them with distinct personalities - some fiery, others vulnerable. Their interplay during tense action scenes and quieter, intimate moments is seamless, drawing listeners deeper into the icy landscape and the warmth of human bonds.
Key highlights include the vivid world-building - Vixen paints a haunting picture of a snowbound Earth that feels both alien and plausible - and the pacing, which keeps the tension taut without exhausting the listener. The audiobook’s exploration of survival isn’t just physical; it’s psychological, delving into how people adapt and find meaning in a broken world. While some might find the emphasis on romantic entanglements a touch heavy, it’s handled with a raw honesty that fits the story’s tone. It’s not a perfect tale - occasional over-explanation in Chris’s inner monologues can slow the momentum - but it’s a gripping start to a new series.
Been reading more apocalyptic stories and I thought that this one made me think more about, if an apocalypse happened to me how would I deal with it mentally. The constant cold would be so draining that I can see how some people would just give up. Though it is not needed I did read the prelude to this story, it will explain some things that happen.
4.5 stars. Seriously, I'm as surprised as you probably are. I usually find myself skipping the extensive sex scenes in these sort of books, but in that case they actually worked as part of the story. There was still some skimming, but a lot less than I expected.
The author has taken pains here to come up with a believable, reasonably balanced-for-the-situation MC. Accordingly it works as reasonably realistic, including the harem elements. I can see why these women would go for this guy, and a book that fails that test is lucky to get a third star, let alone half of a 5th one.
If the blurb appeals, and you know what kind of book you're getting into, I say you could do a lot worse. The series is up to 8 books as I write this and I'm not sure I'm in this for that kind of commitment, but I'm giving book 2 a go.
I'm gonna be honest, I found the start slow and I actively hated Cris for his fucking "wanderlust" reasoning, dude, just stay with Mary at the village, omg. Them I found myself slowly getting attached to him through the book, he is struggling and he is trying. He is a cool MC that did manage to win me over the book, haha.
I loved Delila straight away, I'm not gonna lie, I loved her descriptions and how she struck a deal with Cris (I do think that was the smart thing to do, it is dangerous to do it with a stranger, but she clearly secured her survival there) and her behavior in and out of bed. But as the story progressed my opinion of her changed, sometimes I reflected on their situation and how she just sit on her ass all day. But then, I realized that she has a positive psychological impact on everyone there, akin to a cat, I sincerely think Megan and Cris would have a more stressful bonding period without her, and the way she makes the others around her feel good with compliments and conversations, yeah, she is a reaally important character for the harém. Ah yes, almost forgot her scavenging skills that are cool too.
I did buy Cris idea of saving the damsel in distress, I thought it was dumb to do it, but I bought it. And regretted the moment Megan took his gun and pointed at him, I was furious at Cris for letting this happen, like dude, come on... And then I got mad at Megan, for returning that gun to Cris, but hey, if she shot him dead there, she would be too. I loved the way she agues with Cris but at the same time I hated her short temperament. I like how she felt distrust and uneasiness towards Cris since she was in a cruel situation being treated as livestock. I loved how she slowly openned up to Cris and Delila, how conflicted she felt and how she took some time to reflect on what to do. I love how she can be a combat partner for Cris, she did remind me of Lydia as my wife in Skyrim, I love this trope so much. As the story progresses I got more and more attached to her, and even like her more rares lash outs, I feel like she had the best development this book. I love her.
And ofc, the lone survivalist Hazel. Dude, my first thought is, woman, do you wanna get killed? Haha, better, CRIS, YOU WANNA DIE, WTF YOU DOING. Anyway, a milf at its finest, a woman who knows exactly what she wants is so mesmerizing. Look, she made a perfect heaven for herself there, honestly, if I were Cris I would be living with Mary, but if I did leave her to warder around and found Hazel? I would try to stay there with her for a long time, as long as she tolerates me at least. She is strong, smart, charming and her sniping skills are really dependable. On second thought I hate tobacco, so there's that.
As for the plot, yeah, I think the start is painfully slow, but them, I didn't even perceived the moment I got attached to the story. Maybe it was the church exploration? I think that was good because I felt like I was there scavenging through it, reading Cris thoughts on his plans and what he was seeing, idk, something about it did make me emotional? Well, a positive emotion if that makes sense, haha. Also realizing that Cris would succeed on his plan the moment he found the briefcase made me feel hyped. Anyway, I got soo anxious the moment he found the cabin sacked that Megan and Delila were kidnapped, I was like "it's over". They were so lucky that Tanner wasn't a complete asshole and didn't kill him out of "selfishness", but he did send ME a menssage, you see, through the book Cris always said that other humans could be dangerous, but I really got the menssage through Tanner, got, even the campground crew made me feel that anxious, they were dumb for trusting Cris right away, to me they didn't push Cris to his limits, but Tanner did. Hazel supporting Cris was really reassuring for me, I like her so much, I hope she comes back in to the story someday. I have mixed feeling on Cris hesitating on killing Tanner right away the moment he got Delila back, but ultimately I liked the way Cris saw himself at the man, and how it shook him.
Anyway, as brazillian, my mental image of Cris is Tyler James Williams, for no reason in specific. :)

At my request I received a copy of this audiobook in order to give a fair and unbiased review.
Genre: Post apocalyptic survival erotic harem
Power dynamics in harem: Lustful, but the members are learning to trust each other. Explicit/adult material: Very. Consensual. Unprotected. Threesomes and (consensual) power dynamics.
Summary: Global warming has progressively worse, to the point where the world is now covered in ice and all governmental structure has collapsed. Chris wakes up after crashing his car, and find that he has been robbed of everything he owns. He finds a young woman and they team up, for him to get his stuff back and for her to be protected on her way to a nearby safe town. But the gang that took Chris' stuff are not easily taken down, and wolves and another local gang also wants a piece of meat.
Narrators Voice diversity: Pacing and intonation: Passionate and expertly delivered from both . Sex scenes: Extremely well done. Gabriel Michael and Katana Jones is a narration all star team and they take it to the next level in this book! Overall: 5 / 5 stars.
The book’s strengths. - The writing. I did not expect to get hit in the feels or thinking deep thoughts from a book like this, but this time i did. - The cruelty and pressure of living in a post-apocalyptic world comes through, and so does the sense of tribal belonging that can be found. - There is a lot of explicit sections and they don't feel forced. It could well be the life of a small group of high libido people in such circumstances - The narration
The book’s weaknesses. - Not really a weakness, this book is excellent at what it does. But I like romance of in my book, this is more a book of mutual respect and shared pleasures. Maybe it will grow into romance in future books. In which case I love the slow burn on the feelings front.
I picked this series up for free on Amazon. Although it looks like it contains very saucy content (and it does), I was intrigued by the positive comments about the main post-apocalyptic story. Global warming has covered the land with snow, and society has collapsed. The story begins with protagonist Chris waking up from a car crash, and finds all his possessions have been taken, yet he was left alive. Chris seems particularly annoyed about his missing diary, and although you would think his thieves would discard it or burn it, you know it's going to be a plot device for Chris to get his revenge. He soon finds an unconscious woman (Delilah) in a cabin and they make a deal. Chris will take her to a nearby town in exchange for sex, although plenty of days pass without making the journey. First, Chris takes on a nearby settlement in order to rescue a captive woman, Megan, before searching for the bandits that stole his diary. There's other threats such as wolves, which are a possible food source too. There's plenty of sex scenes although the author does a fairly good job of justifying it in the narrative (as currency, entertainment, social need). I say "fairly" good job because after some sex scenes, you think the plot is gonna make progress, but then there is a "round two"; Chris is just insatiable. Chris often reflects on his actions, past or present, which gives you more insight into his character, and further justifies his actions. I did enjoy the survival/revenge part of the story, and it's gonna be intriguing where it goes from here - I could easily see the following books being repetitive if it doesn't emphasise the survival aspect.
Post apocalypse harem adult situations In some ways this actually isn't a harem series. The MC, Chris, comes right out and says he won't stay anywhere for long. He treats the women he encounters respectfully but is also up front about his desire for sex. Harem implies the relationships are intended to be permanent, and with the MC, that's not the case. With the new sudden Ice Age happening, food will continue to become an issue. He started in Florida, with a blizzard hitting that far south. The canned goods the live on are finite. So are the herbivores like rabbits and deer. The trees and shrubs have died. Without a food supply for the wolves, they will die out and the rest of the humans will starve, too. If the snow IS caused by weather satellites, then they're screwed because everything technology-based has collapsed -- though we don't know if the tropics are also so affected. Grim yet compelling. Also, the MC paid to have a device implanted that kills his sperm on the way out like a shredder. With civilization gone, even if he eventually settles down, he can't sire children. But, there are six more books, so hard telling what the author has thrown up to keep the story fresh. Only a few errors, and pretty fast paced. If you like survival fare, you should enjoy this.
The prelude was mostly a nice story except for how difficult it is to understand Chris near the end.
As it continues the story turns into filling as many different holes (omfg!! unprotected RAW sex in tight perfect pussy is the best thing evar! x100) with 'magic dick' as often as possible no matter the consequences.
Sex is great, obviously, but it gets a bit depressing how meaningless it all is. MC is an empty shell that's always chasing new and different holes and pounding them as hard as possible. Once the novelty wears off they conveniently part ways. I guess this is sometimes a good thing for the reader but it's weird how MC pretends he wants more than convenient access to 'holes'. Actions speak louder than words and it's clear what MC's priorities are.
The author cycles her standard wording, jobs (grocery store, waitress, prostitute) and kinks (red heads/submissive/tall/fat/huge boobs/muscular/'mature' and in a later book prego). I haven't read many of her books but it already seems formulaic and it makes me sad that people don't want to use their brains even a little bit to enjoy new experiences.
The wording, situations and sexual experiences get repetitive and truly new experiences are rare. Surely submissive sex slaves would be up for non-vanilla things (like orally cleaning up partners afterwards), for example.
Fairly standard tropes, protagonist has a magic cock he thinks is small but can barely fit a woman and shoots semen like it could put out a fire. All the women are bi nymphomaniac supermodels and throw themselves at him.
About a third of the books are sex, a third killing other guys or animals, all of which are evil, and a third moralizing and rationalizing. The moralizing and rationalizing are painful but appropriate for a 25 year old whose blood has left the brain and is all in his massive dick. The sex and killing is handled better than is typical for this type of novel but are overly long and gets repetitive. The women are fairly distinct and likeable.
The ice age apocalypse is little more than a framing device and only paid lip service. The world as described wouldn't work. With the majority of humans not instantly dying out, like a zombie apocalypse, food would have long since been gone and the characters and humanity would be doomed and behaving very differently. It would have been better set as a frontier western or fantasy world, or an alien/zombie invasion which is what it feels like.
Misty Vixen is one of my favorite smut writers, her sex scenes are some of the best i've ever read and her worldbuilding is very decent too. I've read 3-4 of her series and A Warm Place is my favorite. Ignore the bad reviews, comments from people who are offended that the erotica is pornographic make me lol, like go read the zillion other post-apocalyptic KU series that aren't specifically billed as erotica maybe??
Whereas my criticism with this series, and this recurs in her other books that i've read--is that she doesn't know when to end it. This first book, and the next few books in the series are great but after awhile it strains credulity that this one guy has an army of women and they don't want any other men, just him, and they're all bisexual, because lesbians are hot, and eventually they want to be bred not because they want kids but because the MC thinks that's hot and...it just gets to be too much tropey HaremLit crap, you know? But if you know that going in, you will enjoy this book for what it is.
I think I'm probably jaded, as I recently read her Beneath The Ashes series which is excellent! I assume this is a much earlier work by the author, and based upon BTA and RAW, I expect this series to improve with each volume.
That said, the main characters didn't appeal to me. Delilah didn't have any depth, Megan was full of issues, and Chris's little head seemed to dominate most of his actions. My favorite character in this book is actually Hazel who shows up in the last 15% of the book. BUT! I will read the next book as I have faith in Misty to make it better.
This was an intense read. So much internal thinking by the MC and sadness. There was lots of sex, but that was only a small focus of the story while survival in a harsh environment where everything and everyone is trying to kill you. Where squeaking out what small pleasures can make life better for that moment, for you may die in the next moment.
I would rate this 3 1/2 stars, felt like I just couldn't want to read it any more and just to end.
What sets this book apart from others is its similarities of some post apocalyptic movies in that the main character reflects a lot on what has changed, in society and with himself since the end happened. It adds a lot of development and depth to an MC in a genre that usually has them as blank slate self inserts. You don't really see that in harem stories.
If you've read Misty Vixen stories before. You know she's a good adult fiction writer!!! This storyline takes her writing to a new level in my opinion. She makes you feel this apocalypse situation deep down. Even with no adult content this would be an awesome storyline!!!
The story is simple, as is the setting, but the strength comes from the characters. They are fully fleshed out and interact in an understandable way. It is a believable, simple story with some timely smut thrown in. All in all, an enjoyable experience.
I found this book to be interesting for looking at a post apocalyptic world and the struggles that it would entail. I found the character's quite realist given the world in which they are placed. I think it is well written and holds one's attention though out. I would certainly recommend this for someone who is looking for lite entertaining reading.
The author does a great job of weaving an interesting story around a thorough celebration of sex just for the intense joy of it. It is an unapologetic graphically detailed sexual fantasy. Along with good character development and realistic attention to detail. I loved it.
I liked this book because it was a really strong introduction of characters, and good strong characters that were introduced. There's a running story that explains what caused the apocalypse that they were all responding to it in their own ways. Now I cannot help but wonder what they're continuing after school be in the future
The characters in this story feel different from Misty's previous stories. The backstory feels more complex and complete or maybe cuz its easier to identify with the MC. Either way I'm compelled and have to wait patiently for the next chapter,
Love the story so far. The adventure with these characters are great so far. Living in the frozen apocalypse is something I can't fathom. Can't wait for the next book in the awesome series. Keep up your great story Misty Vixen
My only complaint would be that there was more sex than story. Please do not get me wrong, I enjoy reading sex scenes as much as the next guy, but I aslo enjoy action! Right now, I am going looking for the second book.
Our MC is one over sexed dude. Good thing he is a good man. And that he met some women of the same persuasion. Together they battle evil in this dozen wasteland that this world has become.
This story a little different the hero was nice and respectful but also crass with his language especially when is time to get intimate. Gosh Tanner was just tragic and sad but was also selfish to trap Chris into killing him.
This is not the type of fiction I like to read too much adult content
Too much adult content! Normally I read science fiction space opera or old classics; the story without the sexual content would be a book with very few pages.
This is the first erotica book I've read. I must say I wasn't a big fan of the writing style. That being said, it's probably the fastest I've ever read a book. Not bad by any means.
I'll say some stats because I wished the info was out there before I read. The harem grows to 2-3 in this book.
