I've no idea whether Mills & Boon have new editors or whathaveyou, however, the books for January 2021 are all excellent and dare I say, vastly improved from those of the last half-year.
The Secrets She Must Tell was soooo good. Well done, Harlequin!

My preliminary thought is: what happened to my Harlequin Presents line?
This book has a ‘heroine’ with a secret baby... a cryptic pregnancy and postpartum psychosis where she eventually needs to institutionalized? She thinks about death (descriptively) and hurting the baby.
So when the ‘Hero’ finally enters the picture, he proposes... a civil partnership.
I’m sorry... what?
Please show me the romance in any of that. Please.
I don’t understand Harlequin’s decision to have so many novels without romance in them. It’s not what I’m looking for. There’s nothing escapist about a novel like this.
It seems Harlequin Presents books are heading more chick-lit and that’s a No Thanks from me.

If there were more Finn Clavert’s, the world would be a better place!
The Secrets She Must Tell is a December 2020 Harlequin Presents release. It’s an emotional read and captured my attention from page one. I wasn’t expecting to read another book on NYE but I could not stop reading this one. A mind blowing one night stand results in a beautiful little baby boy Josh. Georgie goes looking for the father, who she only knows by his first name. What rolls out is highly emotional (possibly triggering for some people who this story would be relatable to) and very intriging story.
Georgie’s story takes a surprising turn when she reveals to Finn why it’s taken her so long to find him. Due to his background, he has no hesitation in helping Georgie and Josh and as he gets to know his son and supports Georgie their relationship grows. However, a 6 month old son isn’t Finn’s only worry.
Georgie happens to meet Finn at one his lowest points and then again when he is in the middle of trying to solve another life shattering mystery. She isn't the only one with secrets to tell. Somehow between all that and opening his latest hotel and supporting Georgie he also has to face growing feelings for Georgie.
I really liked the unique spin on why Georgie couldn’t find Finn straight away. I was a bit disappointed at the end when she left Paris but I realised once it was explained by the author what was happening and understood. I really liked the introduction of the future characters and especially the Epilogue.
I guess at NYE, a time for reflection, I really believe if there were more Finn Calvert’s out there, the world would be a better place!

🤩 just wow…
Georgie is celebrating her birthday when she sees Finn across the room. She decides she wants him for her birthday present. They spend one night together and move on.
Then 💥 bam! She has a baby… literally. She didn’t know she was pregnant and the rare way in which she carried her baby to term is shocking. Then comes the meltdown. I cannot imagine what she went thru, being sent home with a baby and totally unprepared. Having no bond with her baby and actually resenting him is heartbreaking ❤️🩹 She ends up being committed and didn’t get out until six months later and is still trying to cope. She finally goes looking for Finn. She knows she needs help and thankfully he is there for her.
Finn ( just love him to pieces) is going thru major shocks as his father just passed and he discovered he is adopted. When Georgie tells him his a father, he just takes over and knows that he will be there for his son. He falls completely in love with his son. He is so supportive of Georgie and listens to her. He reassures her and bends backwards to get her the help she needs. Their coming together is sweet and Georgie finally starts to feel herself again.
The argument they have when he finally tells her about the investigation into his adoption and possible siblings (triplets) throws her into a loop. Both realize that she may never completely recover emotionally and he lets her know that it doesn’t matter. He Will Always Be There For Her. (Sniff, did I tell you I just love 💗 him)
This book had no cheating, no evil OW/OM, just two emotionally charged individuals that found love and happiness in the end.
We get a small glimpse of one of his brothers at the end. So now I’m going to hunt down his book.

Great book!
This book was unlike any of the HP that I have ever read. This book covered a theme that I had not ever read about before, especially in a romance novel.
Normally, guy meets girl, they falls in love, have sex, maybe have baby, get married and live happily ever after. But that is not what happens in this book! And I loved it, so much more interesting than the usually blah blah. When the heroine meets a man in a bar, sleeps with him, gets pregnant, can’t find him and end up suffering from Post-Partum Psychosis! It turned the whole story on its head. Yesss
Plus, he just found out he was adopted after his dad dies and his mother might have committed suicide.
Good Job!

Interesting insight
This is so not your mother's Harlequin romance.
This book is not like older Harlequin books or even some of the newer ones.
Without giving away any spoilers:
It was extremely well written and researched it focused beyond the relationship of s couple the incidents of a illness that unless you are trained medical professional or a survivor (or loved one of) you would not know much about it.
I sat and read this in one sitting which says how engrossing the story is.
After finishing the story I realized it was book one of a trilogy ( perfectly a stand-alone) and need to go and find book #2
This is so not your mother's Harlequin romance.

Oh wow
This story gripped me from the very beginning. I'm still kind of shaking as I write this review. It's a complicated love story, but also a story about problems that come up in many people's lives. I laughed a lot and I cried a lot. I want to say so much more, but I don't want to give away any of this amazing story.
Just read it.

I enjoyed this one. The heroine reminded me of a friend I had years ago, with similar issues. I think the author handled her struggles with grace and compassion. And the hero sounded super hot. Their romance was believable- not always the case with HP, but for me, this one was.

First in a trio
Really enjoyed this story. I appreciated that it dealt with post partum depression. I liked how that even with both of them fighting difficult circumstances they found their way to each other.

I have been puzzling how to rate this book. As one would expect from such a good writer, LK has written an amazing and sensitive story. She’s tackled a really serious issue and made it central to the problems our h/H encounter in their romance. She handles it all brilliantly.
Her hero and heroine are brilliantly and sensitively developed. The plot and the dialogue are amazing and the execution is handled really well. My problem? Well, I simply didn’t enjoy it and I cannot see myself ever reading it again. I regularly re-read my favourites of LK’s books.
If this had been published as ‘women’s fiction’ then I would have given 5 stars and been lost in admiration about how well written it was.
However I read Mills and Boon for romantic escapism, not to be educated about the problems of post-partum psychosis.
In most romances, facts and logic can overrule misunderstandings or stupidity. Sadly it won’t work on mental illness and this made any resolution questionable.
I want ‘Happy endings’ - not pragmatic, or cruelly realistic ones. I want positive developments in the romance not the creation of more problems.
For the writing and the execution, I’d give it 5 stars but for my own pleasure - then I’m sorry it’s 2.5 stars. I loved Finn - what an utterly amazing and heroic hero he was. I’d almost be tempted to re-read this just for him! But sadly, I won’t. This won’t put me off reading LK’s books.
