Defector is a novella in Rawlin Cash's best-selling Jack Hunter CIA thriller series. Jack is on the hunt. Margot is missing. A mysterious and powerful agency has her. He must work with a man who has defected. A man who has little power. But he's the only man, Jack can trust. This will be the fourth novel of one of the most full-throttle CIA assassin series to hit bookstores in years. It has been created from the ground up, with the help of present and former national security operatives, to fill the space between Jason Bourne and Mitch Rapp.
Oh boy...where to start. A bit disappointed to say the least. As a fan of the series, it's fairly obvious, after this book, the Jack Hunter series is no more... This one seemed like a rushed, thrown together short story rushed to print to meet a deadline.., It was completely devoid of editing, so many errors. like did no one read this through before publishing?? There are so mistakes throughout I found myself ad libbing just to get through certain chapters. Which sucks bc imo, Cash developed a killer series with JH. He really showed out in the last books, too; having seriously thrown together a solid thriller series with great characters, exciting and well detailed plots, and he obviously put a lot of time and effort into them. But with this one....eeesh. buddy simply called it in.
I get it, these multi-series authors are constantly pushed to release the next installment in today's thriller world. And for whatever reason, it seems as though Cash has decided to retire this particular series. The end of Defector takes you so far away from what you'd expect in this series that it's actually laughable.
I have read the other Jack Hunter books and enjoyed them, so I was looking forward to this read. This book however was a just bad!!! The plot was disjointed and unplanned, the ending was thrown together almost as if there needed to be a certain number of pages to be written. But the most ridiculous part of all was the spelling mistakes, incorrect names used for characters, blown sentences, or skipped thoughts where you needed to figure what it should read like before you read it. I will give this author and series another chance.
Tons of mistakes. Peer should be pier for example. Way too short. Didn’t realize this was essentially a short story and key people are killed off in a way that just seemed lazy and stupid. Very disappointed.
The number of grammatical errors not to mention the juxtaposition of the story line made for a terrible read. Not sure who is responsible but whoever proof read this mess needs to find a new line of work. This read more like a novella so the read ended quickly.
This has to be the worst book I've ever read! The storyline was forced. Took me a day to read all of it. It was full of misspellings and mis quotes. No one must have proof read it before it was published.
Confusing line of events with a swift close that leaves you hoping the next time the story will be better, both in development and telling. Definitely a short story but only if you have time to kill.
The book could have been good if it hadn't had so many mistakes. Words misspelled and out of place. Rawlin Cash you need to hire a better proofreader ?
No proof reading! Bad grammar! Spellcheck please. I think the writer must have got sick and died his eight year old took over and finished the book for him or her.
