This was an outstanding book on the power and goodness of God to lead a seemingly normal person to start a mission to some of the poorest in the world. Much of the book was a culture shock to me, but not the parts I might have expected. The poverty in parts of Africa is something I am at least partially familiar with. So, while this was awful and heart-breaking, it was not surprising. Rather, the author who comes from a farming background lives from a farming perspective, and this is something I know absolutely nothing about (coming from a heritage that abandoned the farm 100 years ago). His farming live seemed like a different planet, even though the author lives a few hours from me. The book is extremely well written (and edited), such that I was continually drawn back to read it.
