I'm Cain, a mountain ranger, and I've lived in the mountains of Colorado for years.
I love the outdoor way of life and I'm at my happiest when I'm in the fresh air with my dog, Ace.
I never really thought much about love because I was already happy in my life and I just couldn't see that altering.
But everything changed when Lyla walked, or rather fell, into my life.
She's got all the curves in all the right places and for a city girl she's certainly got that feisty frontier spirit. I just hope I can persuade her to stay.
Lyla
All I wanted was a taste of adventure, away from the city life I had always known, and Colorado seemed like a great place to visit. But I should have been better prepared.
The mountains are always a dangerous place. Wild animals, rough terrain and of course, bad weather.
So when I fell and twisted my ankle that really shook me up. I wondered how I would get down again, until Cain showed up.
His cabin in the woods was like another world and while he might be a bit rough round the edges he's the sort of man I always dreamed of.
Question is, am I ready to move from the city and spend my life in the wilderness?
Are you craving a sweet insta-love story? No cliffhangers? Guaranteed HEA? Cain is the perfect short, steamy read you've been waiting for.
Sarah Taylor writes love stories that are both steamy and sweet - and that feature confident, clever women and the alpha males who love them. A Southern girl at heart, she loves a good old-fashion happy ending with a hint of spice. When she is not busy writing, Sarah loves Korean dramas and practicing yoga. Rescuing Me is her first debut book.
There were elements to this story that I loved a lot: the independent adventurous spirit who clearly has no idea how to survive the outdoors but goes to find something beautiful while inevitably running into trouble, the grumpy mountain ranger who prefers to be secluded away from the general public with only his dog for company who comes to her rescue and is surprised as much by her fiery spirit as he is by his own feelings, and of course, the storm pushing them into each other's arms. All three things are the very best ingredients for a steamy product but there was enough lacking that I wasn't fully satisfied.
To start, we have our FMC hiking on a mountain trail, and the first thing we learn is that not only was her family concerned/convinced that she couldn't survive a night out in the open, but her phone is dead, she only has half a bottle of water and some snacks, and is walking right off a cliff. She sprains her ankle, and the next day it's like nothing has happened. There's also no talk of contacting anyone to let them know she's alive or any realistic response to a near-death experience. That's not the point of this type of story, but you'd be surprised how little bit of realism and exposition can fuel the fire. Secondly, I'm not a fan of the insta-lovetrope at the best of times, but this was working for me up until a point. Cain's feelings came a little out of nowhere. Yes, he recognized his attraction to her, but it came off as grudgingly appreciative. He spent more time lecturing her and making plans than having a real connective conversation when suddenly it switches to "I don't know what I'd do if I lost you." I wish there had been any kind of genuine spark outside of lust between the two, even for a chapter, before getting into the physical. I think this is teeming with potential in a longer format, however as it stands now, it's a slightly below average quick read. 2.5 stars

Lyla works really hard at her job in the city and finally earned enough time off for a few days in the mountain, to celebrate her 23rd birthday. Nothing goes well though as she loses the map, gets lost, falls off a cliff and ends up with a sprained ankle. Suddenly, park ranger Cain and his black lab Ace come into view and help her back to their cabin. She is a basketful of trouble, but she means well, as they almost get into serious trouble again the next morning. Stormy weather is nothing to kid about. Lyla and Cain start to have feelings and the romance quickly gets stronger. Loved the way she surprises him with her comments and the way she looks at things. Loving the views and nature and quiet. The epilogue was perfect at six months later. Good things do come to those who wait a bit and accept their fate.

Oh, the heat is HOT, and the physical chemistry is captivating so be careful you may just get burned all the heat coming off these pages. There were some "oh no" "oh wow" " what the what" moments and add in uncanny mishaps, and shenanigans the good kind that makes you keep turning the pages till last page has been turned. Lyla decides to celebrate her birthday up in the mountains and following all the rules for preparations she heads into the hike but sometimes no matter how prepared you are nature has and always will have a mind of her own and well Lyla takes a tumble down a cliff. Good thing Cain and his trusty four-legged companion Ace were out doing their Ranger duties and found Lyla and due to bad weather she is stuck with Ranger Cain and Ace so while stuck they get to know each other and the attraction is something serious between these two. Can they find their own HEA?
Lyla wanted to have an adventure for her birthday, she is tired of the city and is looking for something more calming. Cain is a mountain ranger, who has enjoyed the mountain and his solitude for most of his life, but when Lyla comes in to his life, it all changes.
Cain and Lyla's story is a good read. I love how Lyla is sassy and determined, she may not know what she is doing but she makes up for it with effect. Lyla does not let Cain get away with anything, she matches him step for step. Cain might be thought of grumpy, but he really is thrown off with Lyla and her style.
A good book to read.

I had trouble enjoying this book because I disliked the female lead Lyla. She acted like a spoilt child. She would not listen to he family a decided to attempt a solo hike in a place she had never been with out any experience or preparation.
I don't see why Cain was attracted to some one who acts so childlike pouting and demanding.
then a bad storm hits just as he rescues her and takes her to his cabin. a bit too convenient but makes sense that she did not even check the weather forecast.
they end up having sex (she is a virgin) I just did not buy the chemistry between the couple but they fall in love and live happier ever after this one was not for me. I would not read again.
This was a fun entertaining curvy city girl meets mountain man/ranger romance which i really enjoyed reading and had a good giggle at the conversations between Lyla and Cain. Its a short read but really worth it as the storyline is well written and the characters will endear themselves to you. Lyla a city girl is celebrating her 23rd birthday by taking a trip into the mountains....unprepared....to find herself tumbling down a cliff. Cain a park ranger and his faithful dog Ace find her and take her to his cabin as a storm is coming up were he tends to her.

This book is very short and not much to it. The pace of the writing and relationship between the two protagonists is fast. The story was cute but unfortunately over before I realized it. I would best recommend this book if you're looking for something sweet and predictable to read before bed. I overall enjoyed the writing style of the author. I believe there are more books in this series and that will suit me just fine when I'm looking for a low angst, quick and sweet romance.
This is my honest and unbiased review, thank you for taking the time to read it. :)
Lyla is going to celebrate her birthday by hiking in the mountains. She gets lost, despite thinking she was fully prepared for this, and she tumbles down a cliff. Fortunately Ranger Cain and his dog Ace find her. Despite arguing, she ultimately gives in and he takes her back to his cabin. Due to bad weather coming in, she has to stay with him for a few days.
Cain is hospitable and Lyla is enjoying her stay – and his company. Cain is feeling it too, surprised that he’s getting attached to her. Will they find their HEA? Will Lyla love the mountains as Cain does?
I really enjoyed Cain by Sarah Taylor. It was quick and steamy and I definitely recommend this mountain man romance. Looking for adventure and to celebrate her 23rd birthday, Lyla leaves the city for a weekend in the mountains. She gets more than that when she injures herself and is rescued by sexy mountain ranger Cain. Although Cain prefers his life of solitude, he cannot deny his attraction for Lyla. Will Lyla leave after the storm or will they find their HEA in the mountains?
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this quick story about Cain and Lyla. He's a mountain ranger and she's headed to the mountain for a birthday adventure. And unfortunate trip leaves her stranded and in danger. Luckily Cain and Ace come to her rescue. It's an instant attraction and protectiveness from Cain.

Lyla is hiking through the woods. She had a map but lost it. As she is admiring the views, she slips and falls. She gets rescued by Cain and his adorable dog, Ace. Cain doesn't like the way Lyla makes him feel. The next day, Cain has to go help some hikers. Lyla decides to follow Cain. This is a short, sweet read where Lyla constantly underestimates the mountain.

This is Lyla and Cain's love story, she's a city girl that thinks it's okay to wonder the mountains unprepared for weather and wild life, he on the other hand is a veteran park Ranger that has to tend to her when a storm comes up and strands her in his cabin.
I would recommend this book to mature readers ( sexual content) that enjoy reading stories that are funny, steamy and romantic.
Cain, mountain ranger, is happy with his life, just him and his dog, Ace, living in the mountains. Until he rescues Lyla after she falls off the bluff and hurts her ankle. Luckily, Cain and Ace find her and take her back to his cabin. However, trying as hard as he can to keep her at a distance, Cain wants this woman.

First time reading this author. Already loving her books. Lyla is on a hiking adventure for her birthday. Things turn bad for her but Ace and Cain are to the rescue. Its a instalove story. Cain is a mountain man who loves his solitude. That is until Lyla falls into his life. Not to mention his dog Ace loves her. Lovely description of the mountains and the characters. A great short read.
An enjoyable instalove book one in the Men of Mist Heights series! It is well-developed, fun, witty, funny, engaging, and well written. Likeable characters; the chemistry between them instant and hot! Definitely recommended!

Gotta like a girl that always looks on the bright side, that’s all the charm this book had . A very typical loner mountain man story you’ve read multiple times and it even included the girl getting a sprained ankle. With that the book was well written and the characters were likable, it was entertaining for a quick read.
Cain and Kyle The only real criticism I have is that I wish 'Cain: a mountain man curvy woman romance (men of mist heights book 1)' was longer than it was. Would of loved a bit more background from both characters. Still enjoyed this insta-love/lust read quick enough to read before bed 😉👍

Short, sexy and sweet! I loved this story! Lyla decides to go on a hiking adventure for her birthday. She falls off a short cliff and hurts her ankle. Cain and his dog, Ace find her. And so starts an instant attraction that leads to more. Liked the ending.
Really enjoyed this curvy woman romance. Like Cain's character of rugid manliness. He was fun to get to know. Lyla was sweet but was more cutout for the mountain life and she found that out when she got lost in the mountains and was found by Ace and his owner Cain.
This is my first time reading a book from Sarah Taylor, I’m so glad I did!! Reading about Cain & Lyla and their journey to HEA was wonderful! I would definitely recommend this book and I’m looking forward to reading another!
The characters are well written And so Meant to be together. A leisurely hiking through the forest to enjoy life And getting totally lost To make a happy ever after book.
