“Mankind is small. We are just specks in this grand cosmos we live in.”
A distinctive post apocalyptic, dystopian SciFi tale! I was snagged from the beginning. A unique take that is totally unexpected! A plot I’ve never read before! Unsuspecting scenarios, with surprises that jump out at every turn. The storyline builds up slowly, gaining momentum with each chapter, a marvellous way towards world building. You could see how profound and professional Mr. Hays’ writing is. Every page turn brings up more intrigue, the twists kept me enthralled and glued to the book. There were times when the scenes gave out a feeling of utopia, full of positive expectations, but the author came and transformed it all towards conflicts difficult to solve!
Having just come out of a devastating War and recuperating steadily...now heading towards a world wide catastrophe seemed too much to bear. Each element merges into and supports the others seamlessly to create a great action-filled reading experience. It is raw, emotional, with great examples of ethics and moral behaviour.
The book is a quick read, fast paced and literally engrossing, it is an excellent story, with good strong characters, very well developed, with explosive situations that make for a wonderful start to a series. And, there's more to come! Surviving Home #2 is my next read!

I did enjoy this apocalyptic end of the world story! Good ideas with asteroids taking out earth and following a father trying to save his family. And turns in to a chain of events that try to save the human species! I did like this but found it odd the female characters don't really speak through the whole thing. The sister 4-5 times in the whole story. So male character based as the mother is almost silent as well except saying go to bed! I found it a little empty because of this, almost one sided. But an ok read!

Great story line but less than stellar characters, character development and not as cohesive as I like. Better editing would help a lot!

Makes you think

Is this what's in store for humanity in our future? Believable characters and places. It was easy to picture the scenes.
