Amelia Bedelia is a housekeeper who always takes instructions literally which annoyed Mrs Rogers, her employer. I had a fun time listening to this collection of 5 Amelia Bedelia stories. I definitely laugh out loud a few times imagining what she did with the prunes, furniture, Mrs Rogers' spotted dress etc etc.

This audiobook presents five classic stories featuring our lovable literate-minded housekeeper. Suzanne Toren does a wonderful job narrating the stories aloud.

In the introduction to each story, she mentions following along with the book which would be helpful for children to understand the absurdity of her misunderstandings. I did not have the book, but it did not matter as I simply listened to the familiar tales for a bit of comic relief.

As an aside, listening to these tales gave me a wonderful respite from my crying jag during the last hour of listening to Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Even though I've read many of these stories before with our girls, it was a fast, funny, and available audiobook that I knew would lighten my mood.

Am I a grown adult listening to an Amelia Bedelia audiobook? You betcha. And I loved every minute of it.

As an adult, the story hits differently. Amelia is absolutely 10000% on the spectrum. She is neurospicy. The family she works for really needs to be better communicators. And, when they asked for her back after firing her, she really shoulda asked for a raise.

This was delightful. It was a break from the world and brought me back to elementary school in the early 1990s.

We’re not laughing at Amelia, we are laughing with her. She brings so much joy. And is a delicious baker. Now, the adults in her life who KNOW how she responds? Well they deserve checkerboard shirts and dresses with holes on them. That’s exactly what they asked for, and our favorite housekeeper obliged.

Now to find if there are Amelia Bedelia cookbooks.

I was cleaning out some old books and audio discs that we have and I remember these stories! My teacher even read these books to us in second grade. Amelia is definitely a fellow neurodivergent. I'm trying to find a few more books from childhood that I read but the Amelia Bedelia series was definitely a favorite around age 7.

Funny to revisit Amelia Bedelia books. I bought for my niece for Christmas and thought I would listen to myself.. How she remained employed is beyond me! Oh yeah, it was her ability to make a pie!

Recommended to: children aged 6 - 9 years old; fans of off-the-wall characters like Anne from Anne of Green Gables or Pippi from Pippi Longstocking

Themes:  language/communication, forgiveness, and humor

I listened to this audiobook collection with my 5-year-old daughter.  We really enjoyed listening to this collection of stories about Amelia Bedelia.

Amelia Bedelia is the story of a young girl that starts working as a maid for Mr. & Mrs. Rogers.  Amelia takes speech very literally, which causes all kinds of problems for the Rogers, for example when Mrs. Rogers asks Amelia to "run an iron over the tablecloth" Amelia takes the iron and walks all over the tablecloth.  They quickly get over any of Amelia's blunders however because as it turns out, she is an excellent baker.

Amelia is such an endearing character that you can't help but love.  Actually, Amelia reminded me a bit of Anne from Anne of Green Gables. mashed up with Pippi from Pippi Longstocking.

Since these stories were first published in the 60’s and 70’s, the language was a bit dated, which made it a bit more challenging for my daughter to totally understand all of Amelia’s misunderstandings, but it was a great opportunity to talk to her about words & phrases with multiple meanings.

I really liked this. My kids think its funny at all their different levels. I remember thinking they were funnier than they are for me now. I guess that just comes with age. Still very cute.

This is an OK book but I can imagine it would have been "utterly delightful" had I read it as a child.

I think it is a great read for young children.

What's there not to like about Amelia Bedelia. She takes everything literally and turns everything upside down. (Don't take this sentence literally.) Love it!
