Pearl Celeste Dreger returns to Silver Springs to spend quality time with her guys during summer vacation, but her plans quickly change when she enters the Miss Sunshine Pageant to protect the contestants from a former friend turned enemy, Anika Klein, and her future parolee boyfriends.
Forced to intern at the former coven that once plotted to kill her, Celeste is quickly upgraded from coffee girl to sleuth when the contestants are attacked during an event. She must figure out who is behind the attacks on the pageant and why winning a silly beauty pageant is so important.
One by one, Benjamin, Carson and Noah are pulled into the fight to keep Celeste away from the truth. Is Anika behind the attacks, or is she merely a pawn in a larger plot?
With her 18th birthday closing in, the effects of the Pumpkin Spice Latte love spell are suddenly intensifying for Celeste and her guys. Is Celeste ready to move past the dating phase of her relationships and embrace the physical aspects to become their lover?
Can Celeste, the broken one, the shy bookworm, step out of the shadows to become the woman, the hero she is meant to be?
YA RH Paranormal / Fantasy Romance.
Note that the previous Pearl books were strictly YA, but this book progresses that age of the characters and has mature language and fade to black scenes involving more than one relationship.
This is the third Pearl book and part of the Jewels Cafe / Silver Springs world.

I literally binged all 3 books in 3 days! This was such a sweet, coming of age story. Like I've mentioned before, I'm very picky about YA stories, but I totally loved this one. Poor Celeste can't just enjoy one summer with her guys, without an evil force trying to spoil her fun. But the best thing is, she is strong and able to withstand whatever is thrown at her.
I received an ARC and voluntarily gave my honest opinion and review
Just when you think that the world of Silver Springs it taking a break, a lot of authors are surprising us with sequels! Barret is one of those authors and once more she's surprising us with a story about Pearl, one of the girls who've gotten a spelled Pumpkin Latte in the first season of Silver Springs. And this time Pearl is almost turning eighteen, which means that some delayed remnants of the spell are making an appearance. I couldn't be happier to get an ARC from the author.
Once more Barret has managed to come up with an interesting plot. It's one of the things I love about her books, there's always more going on than "just" the characters falling in love with each other and overcoming some difficulties and issues. It helps that Barret created an amazing magic system that comes with endless possibilities and of course people who are determined to exploit it to gain more power over people who just mean well.
And once more that means that Pearl and maybe in this case even more her three boys are facing people trying to tear them apart. Which mostly gives Barret the chance to not only show us how amazing all these characters are, but to also show us how powerful and true the bond between these characters is. This isn't a summer fling. This isn't a simple teenage crush. This is true love that will last for the rest of their lives and it's beautiful.
Of course, that doesn't mean that there aren't small issues between Pearl and her guys. Since Pearl and her guys are growing older, they are also starting to get ready for the next step in their relationship. When everything is a first, it's not that easy, especially not if there are not just one but three guys involved. I love how Pearl and her guys keep on communicating and talking. Love is a verb and this harem really shows us that working for it is worth it.
Pearl is back and oh my has she grown up. She still in school but it seems like people still want to destroy her. Pearl comes back and wanting to catch up with her men. Benjamin has been blacklisted from his coven and Pearl wants to help him out. Carson is ghosting Pearl and she has no idea why. Noah is getting used to being human again. However, there are some things that are going on and people are getting hurt. Pearl is trying to help find out who is behind all the issues. While doing all this she decides to participate in a pageant. I honestly have no idea how she manages to do all this and take on the baddies. We see how much she has grown and how strong her magic is. However she is tested on so many levels so that people will see that she is dangerous. If it was not for her men she may have gone down a different path. While she is doing all this she is trying to find out how to juggle her three men. I loved that we get to see how much she has grown and handled everything like a champ. There are a lot of moments that are pretty intense but the story is well written and I loved it. Can she save the town again from the baddies? Check it out to see how it all goes down.
Pearl and her men are still navigating their relationship. Forces outside their group are attempting to break them apart. Pearl must figure out what is going on before it is too late for them all.
-Author lays a sufficient foundation for communication to allow the characters to avoid violations of consent.
-Sex scenes tastefully fade to black.
Plus 4 stars.
Dislikes:
-Communicates about and alludes to sexual intimacy outside of a committed marital relationship. Waiting signifies the faithfulness, respect, and patience necessary to build a healthy relationship and having sex before marriage avoids the time period the partners could use to develop these life skills.
-The heroine plans to elope to save her mother from her relatives and save time in planning a wedding. The heroine needs to take time to set safe boundaries like she did with Augusta so she is safe all the time and not just when she avoids family gatherings. Additionally, planning a wedding is a good time to develop the intentional habit of paying attention to relationship details that are important to each person and learning enough to include important symbols of the heritage of the spouses, honoring their families and communities. Paying attention to details important to the other person and including those details on purpose will help each partner build the interpersonal relationship skills to contribute to a healthy relationship after marriage.
-Some cursing. Cursing is a big deal because what she says is a reflection of what is in her heart, which is a lack of effective coping skills and healthy emotional processing. Cursing is not a sign of maturity but a sign that she needs help with appropriate anger management before her words do significant damage to her relationships, weaken her social support network, and thus diminish her resilience.
If Pearl/Celeste wants to be a person with safe boundaries and healthy, long-term relationships, she needs to put in the work to build coping skills for stress, make ongoing concrete investments in her relationships, develop resilience by paying attention to the skills her social rituals are intended to nurture, and establish a healthy social support network. It might not be easy or fun, but it will be worth it.
I like books 1-2 better, but this book is well written. I have only found this series and the Violet book to be to my taste and I can’t look up the books in this series by YA or slow-burn, and the others I have read in this universe are not up to this standard because they are vocally crass, sexually crude or cruel, and poorly written. I’m tired of wading through them in the hopes I will find the good ones, and I do not plan to continue reading bad, stressful books when I could read something that makes my day better and not worse. Therefore, I am setting some boundaries of my own and moving on to another series in a different universe. I do not plan to return.
What an intriguing addition to the Jewel’s Cafe series!
Author Tabitha Barret continues her Tales of Pearl in Tempted by Darkness, oart of a unique Paranormal RH series.
Pearl Celeste (Oyster) Dreger is an almost 18 year old who has particularly strong powers, and has had a very tough go of it over the last year-you nay want to read the Pearl books from earlier in the series to get a full handle on this amazing young woman.
What is very unique about Celeste’s story, is that she found her mates as a teenager. You think the adults in Silver Springs have it rough? Try understanding an RH relationship when your hormones have not yet settled down.
Shat I adored about Celeste, and her young men, was the respect they had for each other and the fact that they were mature enough to understand the ‘meaning’ of their relationship.
This was a complicated and mystery driven story that had very little down time. Lots of things happening.
There is one thing about the Silver Springs series that I absolutely love, and that is the fact that a lot of the authors are bringing out sequels to their much-loved books. I haven't read the previous Pearl books but I felt there was enough information in this one that I wasn't lost on how the relationships are between the FMC and her men. I for one will definitely be going back to read the others.
Pearl aka Celeste is heading home for summer after her finals and she ends up with an unexpected interview as an unpaid intern at the coven and now taking part in the Miss Sunshine Pagent. I love the fact that Pearl was a teen when she found her mates, as it's interesting to see how a reverse harem relationship would work for a teenager.
There's a lot of sexual tension in this book for all the characters, and well we already know what teenage hormones are like, add onto that the mating spell and yep it's off the charts.
Wow there's never a dull moment in silver springs, Celeste is back for what she thinks is a easy summer brake with her three guys Noah, Benjamin and Carson when she gets chosen by her mother for an internship and things seen to go wrong from there. I love seeing Celeste back with her Guys who seemed to have gotten Hotter over the school term and I loved seeing Celeste reaction, even the booty shorts Benjamin ended up keeping just for Celeste which made me laugh. If it wasnt her boys making my laugh it was Grandmother Tavish who I found a hoot and wanted her Hot men back on her Tv. I really loved meeting Rose and her men again when Celeste bumps in to them at Vee and there just as adorable as always. I really disliked Dragomir Klein from the start and thought he was truble but thought out I found it a really enjoyable read.
Sadly i hadnt read the first two Pearl books before this one but i have read other books in the Silver Springs series. After reading this book i might have to buy the other Pearl books. Pearl (Celeste FMC) is an interesting character. One that lives by her own standards and doesnt conform to everyones expectations of how she should be. Which i really liked. Shes a teenager with more drama and complex problems that any teen should have. What i liked most about this book is steam/sex is not really part of it. Not like some of the other books in this series. It was refreshing and it meant that we got to know Pearl and the guys - Benjamin, Carson and Noah more. I really liked all the main characters and the book in general. It was a great read
In this 3rd novel involving Celeste aka Pearl, she has just returned home from her academy for the summer.
Her only problem is that her mother & uncle have decided she needs to take an unpaid internship at the cover for the summer with the new coven guardian, Mr. Milton. Carson isn't talking to her, Benjamin is all caught up in his potions experiment, only Noah is there with at first.
Determined to talk to Benjamin she finds out that he has been blacklisted & that Carson isn't acting like himself. Next thing she knows, Celeste not only has an internship but is also in the Miss Sunshine Pageant.
I hadn't read any Pearl books before this one, but I didn't feel lost. I think I grasped the relationship and history between Pearl and her guys. She also seems to be very skilled as a witch, and uses her abilities wisely.
Pearl initially enters a beauty pageant to go up against a bully, but soon contestants are attacked and as the attacks become more violent, Pearl (with some help) tries to figure out why this is really happening. What is the point of it all?
I thought this was a fun story. Pearl navigates the happenings in the town, while also trying to navigate the increasing feelings she has for her boyfriends. There were some awkward moments during this discovery, but also some sweet ones.
I really really enjoy this series. Each of these books will take you away to a fun place to be where you can escape from your everyday reality to a magical world. This one is no different. It moves along at an awesome pace for reading. The characters are amazing and you cannot help but love them and you want to see them overcome everything that may get in their way. The story will grab you and keep you reading and turning pages till you reach the end and then you want to read more. This book is a must read and needs to be on your TBR list, no doubt about it.
After being hit with the Jewels Cafe love spell and finding her mates in the first book, the effects are now mixing with teenage hormones as they get older! Of course, Pearl can't have a simple, quiet summer, either. There's another dark witch out to get her, and this time, it's personal!
I don't read a lot of YA books, but this was sweet and not graphic. As ever, it's great to see other Silver Springs characters weaving their way into the storyline.
It's happy ever after, but with possibilities for the future!
I have to admit that started this series when some of these fabulous books had already been released, and I missed the first two books in Pearl's journey, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this installment and I plan to read the first two. This addition to the series is a little different in that it's not as steamy as I've come to expect, which works perfectly for this young protagonist. There's great character development with her and some rather adoring gentlemen. Throw in a mystery and of course don't be surprised to see some familiar faces.
I love the Pearl books. As they are YA up to now they have lacked any physical intimacy although now she is coming of age there were some light scenes that were more hinted at so it is still suitable for youger readers. What they lack in steam is more than made up in storyline! Yet again another enthralling book which kept me interested till the end. A couple of giggles and surprises along the way makes this an excellent book which I think many people would enjoy even if they dont normally opt for this genre
A wonderful addition to the series Jewels' Cafe - Celeste is back with her guys in Silver Springs for summer break but things are not going to plan. When her guys start acting odd, she's out to find out what's going on and who's out to sabotage her. A fun paranormal, reverse harem romance read with great characters and a smooth storyline that is a great addition to this series and an overall read that is sure to please!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review
I loved how shes grown so much from her first book. Pearls adventures are always my favourite and what ever happens to next in her book or Sadies has me love int the shared worlds so much. No you dont have to read the other series to read this one but its a perfect combination of events and more details on things.
Thank you so much Tabitha for letting me read more on pearl, i hope there’s another because this was truly epic, and i love reading more about her mates and what they get up to.
Can’t a girl catch a break on summer vacation? Not if her name is Pearl Celeste Dreger. From an unpaid internship with a fussy witch to unexplained feelings with her guys, Celeste knows that something is going on in Silver Springs and she has a good idea who’s responsible.
Pearl: Tempted by Darkness is a great follow-up . Celeste’s determination to be a good person is told through the struggles she faces. For this young lady everyone thought was broken has emerged a powerful witch determined to protect her friends and family against all comers.
Pearl is growing up and coming into her own as well as her family finally letting her live her life. Once again, evil forces are working against Pearl and her guys from behind the sciences and in her face. The book was great in handling the going from a child to adult transition between 17 and 18 and all the feelings that go along with that. I didn't expect all the mysteries wrapped up in the story but it was well written.
Oh my where to begin. I just love Celeste. She is back for summer break, and it doesn't quite turn out like she thought it would. Between a beauty pageant, interning (that her mom insisted she do) and learning to drive, she tries to find time to spend with the guys. But something is afoot, as they are acting strange. In true Celeste fashion she figures everything out.
I really have enjoyed the 3 Pearl books in this series it is a YA nook such tamer than some of the other books in the series however that is not a bad thing. This book is a mixture of the innocence of first love, dealing with the changing feelings from friendship to desire and how to overcome and destroy the darkness that lurks inside us all. I loved this book as I have all the silver springs books and I really hope we see more of Pearl and her young men.
A sequel story for Pearl. Even is you didn’t read the first one I promise you will still enjoy this one. It is full of Silver Springs magic. Pearl is back for the summer. But everything she planned has definitely changed. Some weird events happen from the start. Plenty of twists that will keep you guessing what will happen next. Magic and more magic some light and some dark. Loved this story and hope we get to read more about Pearl and her guys again.
I love when we get some novellas or second books to some of our favorite characters in the past Silver Springs "seasons." Pearl was introduced in the Jewels Cafe series of the Silver Springs universe, and she is back for more mischief and mayhem. She has grown a lot since her first book not only as a woman but also with her magic, and there are still so many twists and turns throughout for her and her men. It was such a treat being back with these characters!
Have I mentioned how much I love the books about Silver Springs? Probably! But I'm gonna say it again!! I Freaking Love the Silver Springs Saga!!! I Loved Pearl and her guys in this one!! So much Witchy Drama!!!😍 I love every character! And it has relatable, everyday issues.... Supernatural stuff aside. I haven't worked my way through them all yet but I'm getting there!!
Poor Pearl, will she ever catch a break? This is book three in her series and she’s eighteen and more grown up but Tabitha gives us a girl who is still trying to figure life out. She’s great fun and you can’t help feel for her when it seems like everything is falling apart. There’s issues with her guys, the coven, and somethings going on that requires investigation and on top of that she goes and enters a pageant!
This is great fun and really enjoyable. Definitely recommend.
This is another great sequel which present many obstacles for Pearl and her guys. I loved that whilst they were facing issues like being tempted to give into the dark, and people being against them, that the remnants of the mating spell were making themselves known. I loved how they all sat down and talked things over like mature adults than getting shy and ignoring things. It’s a true coming of age book and I loved it.
Pearl and her men are back. Pearl has returned to Silver Springs after being away for school. While trying to spend her time with her mates, she can't help but sew that they are acting weird. On the verge of her 18th birthday, Pearl ends up having to enter a pageant and also figure out who's trying to tear her and her mates apart. I loved Pearl, her mates and the way the coming of age was described in this story.
This book was well written and creative! I really did enjoy this book. This was my first reverse Harlem that was very mild on the sexual content. I loved all the characters. I wish we could see what happened with Anika and her mom. Hopefully there will be another book more about what has happened with what will happen with Celeste and her guys and what career paths they will follow and such! Can't wait!
