It was hard to decide what this was. Somehow, there were dinos, zombies, parallel universes, evil dudes with superpowers, and scenes from Raiders of the Lost Ark. All of this while the purpose of the visit to the mysterious island, was to recover a crashed aircraft's ELT (Emergency Location Transmitter). Why? Why? Why? Wouldn't it make more sense to recover the Black Box (the cockpit voice recorder and/or the flight data recorder)?
I get up at sparrow’s fart (very early) to read uninterrupted for an hour or so…then life impinges on my solitude, so I don’t like to waste my precious reading time on junk (a bit harsh, I know). While I liked the early dino-human action in this book, the story petered out into a dog’s breakfast after about 30%. I think this could have been way better if the author just stuck to Dinosauria, with maybe one other subplot.
All-in-all, just plain silly, but 2 stars for the first bit of the story.
This is a great tale of dinosaurs, zombies, natives and a group sent to this island to recover a flight recorder from a plane crash. This character driven story has twists and turns that will keep you on your toes until the end of this horrific tale of survival against all odds. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves the horror genre.
Was will man mehr?
Pros: Attention grabber from the get-go. Characters had distinct personalities. The scientific facts were used as needed. The writing style is characters was easy on the brain.
Cons: Interchange between some characters felt like space fillers.
The abilities of the non-animal antagonists (zombies too) were farfetched and silly - as if they were taken from a superhero comic book .
It's always hard to really enjoy a book when you don't really care a fig for any of the characters on offer. Such was the case here and after awhile I kind of wished they would all for horrible dino-deaths being eaten by dread thunder lizards. Not really my cup of prehistoric tea.
Witty, fast-moving setup once the group gets to the aforementioned island. I enjoyed how Poldark handled 'that one book/movie about dinosaurs that was probably really well-researched' in a way that addressed the elephant in the room while also letting the reader know that they ARE NOT in that novel/movie and they cannot be really sure of anything anymore. The characters are in completely alien territory and cannot take take anything for granted.
That said, the book is not just about dinosaurs as the cover would suggest -- there's a mystery to be unraveled. The characters were engaging, even while they felt like archetypes, each one had some quirk that brought them out of what you'd consider the typical trope. It delivered enough surprises at a pace that will keep you turning the pages.
I read this while stuck in a hospital waiting room for a few hours, and it made the time pass quickly. I had a few people staring at me when I laughed or gasped out loud. Great stuff from Poldark. I'll be checking out his other stuff for sure.
Excellent book with an editor that would make any writer proud. Did not have to reconstruct sentences and correctly spell words in my mind as I read. Kudos. The story was amazing. Lost world, another dimension, aliens, and Dinosaurs. Lots of action and intrigue. The characters were driven by their own desires and motives, although a big payday helped. But when does science cross the line and how much of an influence does corporate greed play? This is more than traveling back in time to the age of dinosaurs. This book offers so much more. Oh yeah, it proves that highly trained ex military personnel put into an intense and seemingly hopeless situation don't always have to curse up a storm. Wish I could give another star for the language. Would I recommend it? 100%! Gotta watch out for Mary and Tracey. Gives the story flavor with their interactions with each other and their feelings for Peter. Oh yeah, ends with the kind of cliffhanger I like...does not fall flat with giving one information And makes one highly anticipate the next book. Come on Rick...there has to be a follow-up. Need to know Tracey's decision. If you have not read this book, do so. Then you will know what I am talking about. Also, maybe we will find out who gets the man.
On Primordial Island you'll learn to expect the unexpected or die trying. Half of the fun of Poldark's novel really is trying to gauge what will happen, how it will happen, and to whom in what timing. It's a a fast paced read with multiple engaging characters from all walks of life, all of them finding themselves on the titular island by accident or design facing down dinos, primitive plant life, indigenous tribes, and some majorly unexpected secrets hidden among all of the other twisted flora and fauna. If you love hidden places, dinos, wild plots, science gone wrong, and Hunter versus wild themes this will be a great read for you!
Awakening not to interfere with dimensional worlds.
Poseidon Tech recruit two college professors to help with an anomaly that resulted in a plane crash on an unidentified island. Unfortunately they aren't told the true story and they find the island covered in various prehistoric life. As if that were not bad enough, they discover they weren't the first group sent to the island. One of the company's own men has gone rogue and they have too deal with humans feel as trying to find a way home. A must read for all lovers of the world as we don't know it.
A decent adventure story that evolves into more than a typical 'trapped on an island with dinosaurs.' Writing is not bad but punctuation (specifically commas) is way overdone. Many of the characters are paleontologists and it's refreshing to see an attempt at updating dinosaur science over the obsolete cliches one usually finds in such stories. Amusing anonymous references to Jurassic Park as "that movie." Character back stories are fleshed out, if somewhat crudely, and it's a shame to see them knocked off one by one. Still, there are some interesting dynamics and plot twists.
A Malaysian airliner crashes on an island, a island that's not supposed to be there. Paleontologist Peter Albanese and Tracey Moran are hired to join a salvage team to try and find the downed aircraft. What they find is an island filled with dinosaurs, lost tribes and a mad man trying to kill them all. I was disappointed in the dinosaurs you don't put feathers on T-Rex. Otherwise pretty good book.
The first tree quarters of the book was pretty good. The last part was just a little weird for me. The dinosaurs were pretty good at first. But then got into orbs and zombies and death Lord type of stuff. Characters finally dying then coming back to life better than ever. I guess just not my cup of tea. Some people will enjoy this. I don't think I am returning to the island to see what happens next.
This book contains two books one about the sinks and the other about the race of people of the island the later was very interesting. It would be interesting to read only about the scale race?
I love a good creature feature and a bit of sci-fi and this book packed them both in. Hoping there’s going to be a sequel as the ending led you to believe! Do it Mr Poldark! I’m waiting.
The story was ok and kept me reading but the grammar was bad and the typos many. How many times in a paragraph can you have 'he shined his torch' it should be 'shone'. Likewise it is 'ground' not 'grinded' an 'slunk' not 'slinked'. Not sure if I can be bothered to read any sequels.
I was impressed by the fact that no one ever wrote about this before. I have to admit I liked the book and talked my husband into reading it. I was amazed at how things turned out. Can't wait to read the second one, which I didn't know about.
I like books like this, not a ton of blood and guts, or any torture to speak of. It had a good story, moved fast, not much fluff, and really kept my interest.
