I am a wolf shifter cast into the hands of fate. Captive. Wrecked. Undone by a bond I never expected.
Another wolf has me now, and I am his to ruin.
Tristan Masters, the ruthless alpha whose destiny threatens to destroy him, has sworn to come for me. But if he does, he will put the lives of his entire pack at risk.
I am the spark that could ignite Tristan's fury, but I'm strong enough to resist.
I will fight the pull of darkness that I sense growing inside me, my true nature that I'm only beginning to understand.
This dark wolf will not break.
This is a dark urban fantasy romance, the second in the Soul Bitten Shifter series. 17+ for sex scenes, mature themes, and language.

Don't you just hate it when you spend hours reading a book and you think its about to end, the villain is on their knees, throat bared , knife/fangs posed for the kill and all of a sudden the character decides not to kill the villain?
If you hate that then this is not the book for you. That is literally how the entire book went. Not only do we rehash what happened in the last book in more pages than necessary but the heroine almost kills the villain like 3 times. She literally always has him by the balls and somehow there is always a reason why it is not the best time to kill him.
This entire book was pointless, nothing of worth happens except her indecisiveness. Tristian doesn't even have a main role in this book, he was around for roughly 20%, that's how nonexistent he was, at one point I thought Cody was going to be the love interest, that's how absent Tristian was. The ending took the cake. Talk about a cliché, I saw that coming since we realized who her mom was.
At this point I don't think I am going to continue this series.
Best book of 2021 so far. I absolutely loved this follow up installment. The tension is INTENSE. The world building unique and fascinating as always with Everly Frost. The relationships were wonderful and infuriating and surprising but amazing all the same. If you love unique urban fantasy that has dark elements and intense writing I HIGHLY recommend this series.
I haven’t came across a book of hers yet that I was dissatisfied with! There was a ton of action with a perfect mixture of romance! I absolutely loved how she always had a male character with her lead female. I’m always way more engaged when writers do that! I read this book in a day and a half, I couldn’t put it down. So well written!! On to the next book!
Wow! This went in a direction I did not see coming. This was a ride which took me through all emotions. Happy. Sad. Shocked. Anger. Distressed. It covered them all for me.
If you have to have an overly steamy book your won’t find that here. Which is the only negative I can say. For me though, it didn’t take away from the story at all.
Tessa is such an interesting FMC. Her backstory and storyline are constantly changing and very unique keeping the reader always guessing. Such a refreshing take on an FMC.
Tristian aka the three headed wolf....come on this is phenomenal! This character is dark, powerful and dangerous. I. Love. Him.
Keeping this review short and sweet so if you decide to pick it up you will be as shocked and invested as I am.
This Broken Wolf is the second installment in the Soul Bitten Shifter series. In this, we are getting to see a whole new side to Tristan and Tessa. Their darker side that is. After she left the party with the butcher, lots of secrets come out to play. We find out he's her real dad and realize he's a real douche canoe.
I mean, really... what father wants to break their kid? This guy definitely did and he's an asshole. All he wanted was her power and revenge. So, yeah, he eventually broke her, but Tristan was also going through some serious shit too. He fully became the three headed wolf and that made things trickier. Together, they could cause all kinds of destruction but right now they want to kill one another.
There's also a bunch of other shit happening. I seriously just want these two to get better and make babies. But no, I don't get that. I get cliffhangers and tension instead. Another person who was thought dead is back and things are just getting crazier.
In the end, I have a feeling she's not going to be murdered by her own mother but honestly - who knows right now? This series has been entertaining as hell and I can't wait for the next book.
Dude, Everly...you are destroying my heart. Destroying it. I can't even. I don't know what to say.
But seriously, I absolutely loved the torture you put me through with this book. No kidding. This book took me on a hella crazy rollercoaster ride of emotions...and I'm at a loss for words, to truly describe everything that I'm feeling right now...but I'm gonna try. Seriously, Everly, you are truly wicked with your endings. Just why you have to be so good at evil endings? My heart is hurting so bad. I am not okay, not at all.
I'm a gonna go and cry in the corner now if anybody needs me. I thought I was prepared for this but I really wasn't. I don't think there's enough chocolate in the world to cure this...all I needs is the next book. That will fix some of the heartache...but even so, I'm certain that my heart will still hurt coz of the things that went down. I really want to say what has me torn up the most, but that's a massive spoiler in my eyes. So back to holding my tongue and sobbing in a corner. This is what my life has come to.
But even with all the hurting Everly put me through...and yes, I totally messaged her coz I had to unload on someone (oopsie 😬 I'd say sorry...but well, I'm not really haha 🤷🏻♀️😂)...it only shows how incredible and fantabulous she truly is; to be able to move someone so completely with just her words.
So whilst I'm over here dealing with one hell of a withdrawal from this series...it definitely deserves the stamp of approval and so much more. So this is for you Everly, coz you're awesome. 🙂
Okay, I'm trying to move off all the crazy emotions I'm feeling right now. But it's kinda hard. I'm currently sitting in my room, on holidays, with a glass of coke and some chocolate. But it was funny because while I was reading this morning, on the verandah with my cuppa...my sister comes out and is like 'are you okay?' And I glance up from my book and am like, 'yeah why?'...I can't remember what she said next, but I randomly just came out with *something sorta spoilerish so won't say lol* and I'm at the end of my book... My sister knows me well and was like 'say no more, I'll leave you to it' lol. I must've had a panicked look on my face like I would have to put my book down bahaha 😂...coz she left me outside undisturbed. Now that's a good sister. Aye. 🖤
I suppose I should talk a little about the book right? And not just my haywire emotions...albeit in my eyes, that in itself is a great indication of a fantastical book. But for the purposes of my readers, I will share a little. But seriously this ↓ is me.
Hmm...it's harder than you would think to know what to say lol. But let's start here. We know at the end of book one, that Tessa is once again under the control of another. Wanted for what she is and to be made anew. But that is not always a good thing. There is a darkness within Tessa that is growing. And this new Wolf shifter wants to shatter whoever she was before and break her free of those shackles. To make her just as ruthless as him. But the one thing he hasn't counted on is Tessa's desire not to be controlled any longer. She's done with that...And the Shifter, Ford, may have just honed and created one of the few beings that can take him down. Our girl is more than determined to fight, to not be taken in by the darkness within and around her. And with one particular person by her side (not saying who hehe 😉), during her capture, she might just be able to avoid being swept up into those impulses...and survive the craziness of Ford's desire to war over everything.
"You can fight your power, Tessa. Hold on to your mind and your heart."
But in-between all this, we have Tristan Masters, the ruthless Alpha, who has sworn to find and follow her. But he is fighting his own darkness, that's trying to take control of him (three-headed wolf definitely should come with a warning label lol)...but by coming for her, he is going against Tessa's original bargain, and setting his pack up to be attacked. It's safe to say that this ↓ is most definitely Tessa and Tristan throughout this book. Not even kidding. Albeit they kinda are a lot more powerful than Derek Hale lol.
Tristan and Tessa are a spark that may just ignite into something more than they can handle. The push and pull of their relationship is complicated but also very intriguing, as they are basically a warring force...but their fury combined is definitely something people shouldn't take lightly. Just don't tick them off and you should be right...but I'm imagining something earth-shattering, that not many would survive...something akin to...
But that spark is also a good thing. It makes them fight harder against their darkness and to want to beat the odds no matter what. That goes for her friends as well, her pack. I love the strength of all of them and their fight...and to see how far they have all come. I love these guys. So them being separated hurt my heart a little.
I think I'm gonna stop there with the plot haha. Coz it's getting harder to not let anything slip. Sooo all you need to know is that this is one killer of a book, and is definitely required to be on the never-ending list of books to devour.
I was sucked into this world so, so easily. The pace and development of this story was incredible and perfect for me. I loved every tortuous moment of it...and believe me, there was plenty of those. I loved the characters and felt a deep connection with them and a strong and crazy dislike for the baddies (obvi lol). I do have to say that in this book I did miss Danika, Iyana, Helen and all those within the Hidden House (as I mentioned above)...but I know that we will see more of them soon, which I can't wait for. I can honestly say, that this book has me completely hooked and desperately needing answers...I have so many of them and dang I need them badly. I know you have them Everly lol.
See I knew you did! 😂
I'm just being the most annoying one trying to get them haha 😂🤷🏻♀️ Sooo is it
Seriously guys, this story just gets better and better. Everly's writing is on point, and with each book she puts her pen to paper it reaches new levels, outdoing her last...and I'm not just saying that. For an author to get so much emotion and the whole shebang out of me, is something I love and is everything a reader wants. We want to be moved, we want to feel that push and pull, the turmoil, the distress, that heart-pounding of not knowing what will happen next. We want to feel it all...and for me, Everly totally nailed it in all departments. I just loved the uncertainty and how I didn't know/predict what was coming all the time. I liked being surprised by the things I didn't see coming...I've been in a total head spin today after finishing this book, and it's taken me forever to even formulate these words. I've been stopping and starting all day getting this Ramble created. No joke. That's what Everly does to me.
I honestly think you are incredibly amazing and I take my proverbial hat off to you. But seriously...
Sharing is caring right hehe?
Anyways, lol I randomly came across this gif whilst lost down the gif rabbit hole...and it had me chuckling because it made me think of the workings of my brain, when it comes to books. Like, we've finished an incredible book and my only thought is, "what do I do now that I've finished?" "Umm wait until the author releases more?"...haha is that just me that thinks like that, when they see this ↓ lol? It's quite possible I'm the only one 😂
Ugh, the final instalment can't come soon enough. Being patient when it comes to books is soooooo hard. But as much as I complain...I will grudgingly, maybe, admit, that it's all part of the bookish ways and the experience, the build-up. Of course, derh, I want the next one just like that *snaps fingers*(there'd be something wrong with me if I didn't lol 😆)...but that escalation and feeling of counting down, also makes us appreciate them all the more. Don't you agree? It's okay if you can only whisper that truth out. It was hard for me to admit as well lol since I hate waiting when I desperately just want answers.
So make sure you pen this book into your calendar, so you are ready for its release on the 26th February. You can pre-order it on Amazon - This Broken Wolf. I highly recommend this book. If you are after a book that's going to take you on a crazy emotional rollercoaster, this is the perfect book. But if you are after one where everything is mostly happy times, yeah, no, this book is definitely not that lol. It's a little dark in the sense that they are trying to break and control her by any means possible. But we are totally promised a HEA. Thank the stars lol. Because I seriously would probably riot haha.
Who's read the first book, This Dark Wolf? What are you most looking forward to in Everly's upcoming release?
Thank you, as always, to the lovely Everly, for the incredible journey's you take me on...they always make me forget who and where I am. Those are the sorts of books I need in my life.
As you guys probably know by now, I'm on Everly's ARC team but as always this is my honest Ramble for her upcoming release.
Now I just gotto work out how to function without the final book. Send me some strength guys. You should all know, that it doesn't matter how much you want the next page, it won't turn anymore once it's reached the "supposed"(lol - Yeah I'm living in denial that my book finished) ending of the story. Tried, tested and failed. Multiple times. I did feel a little like an adult-toddler wanting to stomp their feet lol.
I'm going to leave you with one last quote to torture you with, because why not? Seems like a fun thing to do hehe.
I will do whatever I have to do to change Tristan's fate. Because changing his fate means changing mine.
Thanks as always for following my blog and being apart of my crazy bookish world. Keep your eyes peeled as I do have another ARC - this one is from Leia and Raye, that'll be popped up once I've finished reading it.
I can’t fight the darkness inside me now. I need to set it free. It’s the only way I’ll survive.
I loved this book. Despite the fact that some lines were cheesy. Despite the fact that the final book won’t be released for a few months. Regardless, as always, Tessa is still a badass herione. She endures so much throughout the sequel (people dying, feeling pain, not feeling like she’s strong) but she still manages to fight back. Everyone wants to fucking control me. I’m finished with being controlled. It ends now. She is allowed to have flaws. She’s scared. Who wouldn’t be? When you have people who want your power, when your afraid of hurting the people around you who matter most? But she is also strong and smart. She doesn’t sit down and wait for people to get things done. She fights back. I don’t hesitate. Flipping the dagger in my left hand, I position myself between them and run straight for the warlock. She comes up with a plan and works with the information she has. She even endures pain and hangs on to her dignity, even when her enemies try to defeat her. He doesn’t flinch. “You think your human soul is strong,” he says. “You think your spirit is worth holding onto, but it weakens you and denies you your true strength. If you were not caged by it, you would have escaped your chains already.” I grit my teeth. “Fuck. You.”
The plot spins and turns. Characters are developed and new twists are revealed. People die. Things get dark. But as always, this book completely lived up to my expectations.
I will admit this book does have a few quibbles. It’s not hard to read, but things can get slow at times. Some pages will take a break from the action and go for steamy sex scenes. Dialogue can exhaust you and there are some descriptions of places and objects.
But this book is so much fun. Can’t wait for the next.
Update - DNF at 59%, which I never do. I couldn't get over Tessa's new bad ass attitude, which just came off as annoying rather than earned. Also - this book, along with book #1, did nothing to invest me in Tessa and Tristan's relationship. Tristan isn't even present! Did the author purposely want the reader to dislike Tristan, who is somehow true mates with Tessa? If so, why? I became attached to the idea of Cody and Tessa after like 10 pages of them interacting. Before I gave up I read the very last chapter and realized that the "big spoiler" isn't even interesting and Tessa is still with Tristan. I'm annoyed I wasted so much time on this series. _____________________________________________________________ I'm starting this review as I'm at 45% through because I have a lot of thoughts so far. I will say I am enjoying this book way more than the last one, but I am still struggling to find the will to finish it.
Compared to the last book I'm happy to see we are finally given a clear conflict that Tessa needs to resolve. We are finally focused. This book picks up immediately after the events of the book #1. Tessa is giving herself to Ford (aka the white wolf) in exchange for Tristan's life (even though Tristan is purposely trying to kill himself because he is the 3 headed wolf). Which can I just say - why are we completely re-doing the final scene from the last book?
As she is being taken away by Ford's ice giant minion Cody tries to save her - Tristan appears too - there is a fight but in the end Tristan is severely injured and thrown off the building (maybe dead?). As the bad guys take Tessa away she convinces them to bring Cody along.
Once Tessa arrives to a the bad guy compound they torture her and finally "break" through her human shell to her wolf within. Turns out she's Ford's daughter (cringe to hoping he might be an alternate love interest because I hate Tristin so much lol) and her transparent blue wolf was actually just a slip of the power she actually possesses. Now she has a real wolf and exist as a human and wolf at the same time. Tessa convinces Ford that she is on his side, so Cody (still injured and half dead at this point) and her are taken to a beautiful magic room.
Things get spicy between her and Cody - their conversation is interesting and they have very obvious chemistry. I think Cody is hiding something about how deeply he feels for Tessa and I'm all for it. My big issue here is that Tessa is still holding onto Tristan, and basically her end goal right now is to get back to save Tristan/stop her dad (who is also Fenrir, the mythical Norse wolf) But the thing is - Tristan is a terrible character. She already has more chemistry and relationship development with Cody than the entire first book with Tristan.
It's hard for me to continue reading because the author didn't make me care enough about Tristan (or his pack/the other packs) to want to see Tessa save him. Tessa's "end goal" right now is just to get back to Tristan and save him. There isn't even some stake like "I want to save the world and all the packs", so it makes it so hard to complete this book when this romantic relationship is so unbelievavle. Tessa and Tristan have the worst chemistry and development. Tristan comes off as such an annoying/confusing character, so I genuinely do not want her to help him out - unless is served some other purpose rather than romance. She literally "reads" Tristan before she's captured and is appalled by how much he truly hates her and wants to kill her!!! HOW are they mates??
Something is not right with this. First, the pacing is weird. The whole ending from the last book, was continued in this book for 20% more. Second, I already hate the heroine too much to care. She pretended to be badass really, but she's not. Third, not strong enough for a villain. In the last book, I was a tiny bit impressed by villain. In this one, he turned out to be so cheesy typical ass. So yeah, not worth my time.
More intensity, more darkness, more deceit, more action.
Nothing was held back in this story and it takes you for such an intense ride! Tessa learns so much about herself, her biological family, her wolf, and her human limitations that she has been abiding by her whole life.
Tristan's complicated reality is fully exposed for Tessa to see and start to really understand.
Cody is surprisingly exactly what Tessa needs with her. Their relationship grows and turns into such a sweet thing.
I have an odd soft-spot for Brynjar... we'll see where things go for his character...
Big things are revealed and EF weaves tidbits that were unknown in the first book seamlessly to slowly bring together the bigger picture, and I'm looking forward to book 3!!
(NO spoilers, so I can't say more!!)
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was soooo looking forward to this book but like some second installment reads it had major shortcomings. The attributes of the first book was finely crafted characters, the connection between Tessa and Tristan and the action. This time we have new characters, a lack of Tristan and too much action with little plot progression. I really struggled with this read and many times I didn’t think I would finish it. No read should be torturous and that’s exactly what this was for me.
The multi-personalities kept me busy in this one Lol!
It starts with torturous beginnings… In this book, Tessa (yet again) has to devise a way to escape her captive circumstances, whilst protecting the people she cares about (or thinks are innocents).
Her relationship with herself and everyone around her are so complex.
“I am anger lingering in the mind,” I whisper, rocking back and forth. “I am revenge growing inside the heart… I will taste the blood of gods… and defy them…”
I would describe Tessa’s relationship with her father, as some crazy ass ‘Art of War’ with a super sized serving of “daddy-issues”. The end was action packed - and was left open for book 3.
I like the elements of Ellas story scatter amongst these books so far - but what happens to her brother… Gah!
I feel like Tessa surrendered to herself by the end of this one and I’m sure we’ll meet a more confident and refined version of her in the next instalment.
I got to say - the rooms in the “spire” where Tessa was held were the most creative and fun rooms I’ve read in a while. The near/apart room was fascinating!
Not too much of Tristan in this one. Again, I love his complex personality/s - so hopefully he’s more of a fixture in book 3. All of him…
I didn’t enjoy this one as thoroughly as book 1, but it was still a solid 4 star read for me. Very enjoyable :)
I am all emotional and all pulled apart from this story. Book number 2 picked straight up from where book 1 ended, and that was action packed. We got to know the characters better, and I particularly enjoyed getting to know Cody better, Each character goes through a lot in this book. It was painful and raw, one of the things I love most about this series. this book was left on a cliffhanger, although to be honest, not a totally unexpected cliffhanger, totally loved this book. Bring on book 3 after this cliffhanger!!!
Mmmmm no. I just, no. That last ending scene was somewhat interesting. But I did not like how her relationship with Tristan was demoralized. Cody’s story.
But most of all, I did not like how there was no development in her character. She just, reacted. You’d think she’d grow somewhat with all that she went through. Her priorities change or something, but no.
“It doesn’t matter what you do,” I shout. “I won’t stop fighting you. I won’t stop biting and kicking and clawing at you. You will have no peace from me.” I try to focus on him as blood trickles down my face and the back of my head. “No peace at all.”
I’m still not over this. Everly never fails to grip me from the start and not let go until the end, I’m hanging so bad for the last book now. Just amazing.
“Remember what you are, Tessa. You are violence begging to be unleashed.”
This book was dark, brutal and beautiful; I had literal goosebumps for about 70% of the book and binged it in just under 5hrs!
Everly’s writing drags you in from the first page, right until the very last. It’s descriptive and following, even making the violence and the breaking points of characters sound beautiful. I also loved the little bits and pieces crossed over from Assassin’s Magic! So clever.
Each character goes through a lot in this book. It was painful and raw, one of the things I love most about this series. It portrays healing, fighting and relapse all in one.
Tessa uncovers more of her terrifying strength and power, Cody faces some really hard truths and shows so much growth, and honestly Tristan just has my heart breaking with how much he has to fight everyday, just to be present (this will make more sense when you read the story).
I also wouldn’t call this series a love triangle at all, as I know there’s some who don’t enjoy those so thought it’s worth mentioning.
I needed book three yesterday to see what becomes of Tessa and Tristan!!!!!
One epic series that will leave you a mixed mess of emotions. At about half way through this, I knew that I was going to be crying big fat ugly tears by an unavoidable event and it came to pass and I absolutely busted out those bitter tears. My heart is broken and I'm one hundred percent pouty faced. This is the punch that Everly Frost's words execute. Every. Single. Time. She entertains, she gives me angsty feelings and breaks my heart and I keep coming back for more! The detail that she crafts into her books is jaw-dropping amazing and makes for an unforgettable read.
I'm super anxious and in awe of the ending! I didn't see that twist coming and I'm feeling shocked and surprised and can't wait for the third book to hit my Kindle. Tessa and Tristan are a force to be reckoned with and I can't wait to see what havoc they wreck next. I have so many wishes for the last book and I'm hoping they come true! I've never not loved any glorious book from this amazing author. One click this series today! You're not going to want to pass this by!
I looked forward to this book. Really I did. I just couldn’t make it through. Tessa is a sniveling, annoying, stubborn, foolish character. Oh! I’m being taken by evil. Wait! I’m being saved by Cody. Why? Why are you here? Why should I go with you? Oh crap. I’ve wasted so much time I’m captured again.
It’s so incredibly annoying to think that women write women this way. Tessa has the emotional maturity of a teaspoon. It was so grating.
No. This sequel took the things I liked about the first book and destroyed them. I don't understand her connection with Tristan; it tells it instead of shows it. I thought that Tessa's interactions with her father could be interesting, but they felt cliche in a badly written villain way. The story seems to get more shallow as it goes on. I will not be continuing the series.
***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.***
OMG What is Everly doing to me! She leaves me with such a huge book hangover everytime! I was so not prepared for this book. Lets just say, nothing else has compared since I read this book!
I am hopelessly in love with Tristian! He swooped in and stole my heart with his Alpha Male, and hot and cold vibes. Tessa is a very unique wolf and I cannot wait to see what happens next. She has completely changed her tune to try to win over her fathers trust, but little does she know he doesn't buy it. Tessa and Tristian have this connection right from the start and it just keeps growing.I wonder how their wolves will treat each other as they seem to hate one another.
There is so much more going on than we have learned. This book left me with so many questions unanswered. I cannot wait to find out what happens in the next book in this series.
Wow this series gets better and better. As we continue on from where the first book ended. We see Tessa being taken by Ford to create a crazy twisted action packed start to the book. As each chapter pulls you in more we see Tessa start to change, whilst also growing closer to Cory and needing to know what happened to Tristan. You get to find out so much throughout this book about Tessa as she goes through many twists and turns in her fight to get back to where she wants to be. But then to end the book on yet another cliffhanger ending to blow your mind. Can't wait to read what happens next, roll on book three
So a tad disappointed in this considering the first one had so much going on. Most of this book involves Tessa being captive along with Cody. I will admit that I fell in love with Cody though. I really hope he pulls through or he gets some kind of HEA. Bummed Tristan wasn't around much although it's not just Tristan anymore which does make things a little interesting. The ending kind of made up for it with that bombshell and I can't wait for the next book to come out.
Sorry I have bowed out at 59%. I gave the first book 3 stars because I didn’t really connect with the main characters but have started series before and they have gotten better, I wanted to see where the story went. This second book not much has happened but continues with each person close to her saying she shouldn’t trust them and characters now having multiple personalities, I feel so disconnected from the main characters that I don’t want to continue.
I struggled to finish this. It was very boring in the middle. Picked up around the end out of all of the plot twists I guessed all but one. I will try and finish this trilogy just because I’m curious to know how the author will wrap this up, but I won’t lie in the fact that I’m very much bored of the series right now. Which is such a shame since I loved the first book.
Oh what a wonderful book! Yes, I know it has some flaws, but this is due to inexperience (if you make a comparison between Everly and Patricia Briggs or something like that), but I am sure that this author will be someone to watch out for, as her books will get better and better. I have to wait another month for the next book, and as my daughter said, the waiting it's hard
This Broken Wolf ( soul bitten shifter #2) Author: Everly Frost
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Heat: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dark, broody, sexy alpha wolf ✔️ Strong, sexy, kick a** heroine ✔️ Maniacal, control freak bad guy ✔️ Crazy bi..., I mean witches ✔️ Magic, magic, magic ✔️ Allll the feels and drama. ✔️✔️
This book continues on from the end of the first book (This Dark Wolf, which was one of my top paranormal reads of 2020) and will definitely leave you begging for more. It kicks off with a lot of action and doesn’t slow down. I love that there are so many different paranormal elements to this book. Its not just Wolf shifters people! You meet so many different kinds of characters all with different parts to play. It’s such an intriguing world.
I am excited to read the next installment and continue on this journey with Tessa. I definitely recommend!!
There were things I liked, things I didn't, so this review lands somewhere in the middle. I'm not in the mood for a well thought-out review, so here are just a bunch of random thoughts...
-Girl, if you've got the chance to kill the Big Baddie, just KILL HIM ALREADY!! Tessa had at least 3 chances that I can think of off the top of my head to just take out her father and she didn't. Once because she was gun shy. Once because it wasn't the "right time" (whatever that is). And the last time she just let him go, saying he should run. WTF?
-I dislike kidnapping as a plot element, and goddamn there is a lot of it in shifter novels. This whole book was basically that. I will give the author kudos though because I hate Stockholm Syndrome even more and there was none of that in this book at all.
-Tristan was basically absent the whole book (she was kidnapped and all), so that means the romance part has progressed not a bit.
-Both Tessa and Tristan have something akin to split personality disorders. Tessa has her human soul and who she's been her whole life, and then she's got this inner war-wolf rage impulse inside her that her father is trying to exploit. Tristan has his own "Tristan" self, as well as his family Cerberus heritage of the Deceiver, the Coward, and the Killer. By the end I think I had a better understanding which personality was speaking when, but early on I was confused sometimes. I guess I learned to differentiate them when Tessa did.
-However...Have we ever actually seen Tristan? Maybe we've only ever seen the Deceiver?
-For a master manipulator, Ford really had no idea at all how to turn Tessa to his side. All his techniques did was push her away.
-Can I tell you how much I love Cody now? Serious applause for an author who can turn a villain around like that. Can I also say that I hope there's some miracle that makes him not dead?
-The ice giant is more interesting than he probably would be in a less skilled author's hands. He's more interesting than Ford or Silas, that's for sure.
-MAJOR applause for the author for making Helen even more interesting!! Dark background story involving the stealing of souls in exchange for favors? Check. Major heavy doses of power? Check. Backfiring on her, causing her to repent? Check.
-I still want to know who the "woman in the dark" is at Hidden House.
-I like that Charlotte, Cody's mom, stood up to the ice giant for causing Tessa pain. That takes some serious guts. I hope she doesn't hate Tessa when she learns Cody died.
-In the beginning, when Tessa first sees into Tristan's heart and sees that the Killer wants her dead, she asks him how he could want to give her his pack when he hates her so much and he says it's because she's strong enough to fight who she is and fight for them. He doesn't deny hating her. So why would he have agreed to meld with her? How could he form a true mate bond with her if he hates her? This makes me question the romance altogether. Then, at the end, when he's the Killer and they're battling errrybody, he wants to join forces with her and rule over a whole bunch of people. Take the forest. Make a pack. How does the Killer just change his mind like that? Is he all 4 (Deceiver, Coward, Killer, Tristan) together at that point, too? I'm just not seeing much consistency in motivations.
-Why is everybody always gripping Tessa by her hair? It's enough to want to go get the girl some shears...
-The Near-Apart Room is effing awesome! Really unique. Kind of like the 3D dangerous version of the Mirror of Erised meets the Magic Mirror on the Wall. Also, wouldn't her father know she'd explore and find it? He gave her the whole floor to herself after all.
-I think the fashion in this series would best be described as "Trashy Tries For Elegant. Fails."
-Tessa's biomom really needs to redirect her rage
