In this installment, book two of the Spellman-Hawk High School quartet, their family learns how to rely on each other to begin pulling together their pieces.
I’ve been enjoying this series. It’s well done in general and I especially like the humor.
However this came too close to my cheating trigger. Not so close that it would bother most people, probably. But my somewhat irrational definition of cheating in romances is any sexual activity that occurs outside of the MCs after romantic interest has been acknowledged by both parties. A more reasonable definition is any sexual activity outside of the MCs after a commitment has been made or sex has occurred. I don’t make the rules though so I’m not sure who to take it up with.
So I can’t tolerate two of the MMCs using conflicting/confusing feelings as an excuse to continue fucking other girls while they figure shit out. There are plenty of other ways to work through problems. The FMC shouldn’t have to go begging for a relationship to make it stop.
If you feel entitled to a girl’s secrets to the point that you’ll throw up if she’s holding anything back, she is entitled to some basic consideration.
So unfortunately I have to stop at the halfway point, which is incredibly disappointing. I was having a lot of fun. It’s a trigger though and no amount of logic will work around it.
Thats probably my biggest compliment. The series is good enough for me to be genuinely disappointed because I can’t move past a trigger. Usually I’m just pissed off.
Since I’m not finishing, it’s possible that the whole situation is a misunderstanding and they’ve been lying about seeing other women. That doesn’t matter to me. The FMC has just had to deal with exposing a really dreadful secret and now she’s got two guys who have told her they’re attracted to her and want to share, going elsewhere. If I’ve been lead to believe those facts for more than one chapter, I consider it done.
I usually flag cheating with a one star indicator, but a) this doesn’t qualify as blatant cheating by most definitions and b) these books don’t have enough reviews for me to be unfair like that.
The summaries for the other books make it sound like there is a lot of this sort of thing in the future. One book mentions that one guy wants to wait until she’s a certain age, and since this book has shown that abstinence isn’t an option for guys (apparently), this nonsense will continue. The last book indicates that the last guy isn’t getting all his needs met? I can only guess what that means, and none of those guesses are remotely ok to me.
For me, a big draw to RHs is the devotion of the MMCs once the relationship is settled on, which is the norm for the genre. Wish fulfillment for emotional support. I don’t mind angst. It just can’t involve the MMCs being interested in OW.
That’s what reviews are for. Unfortunately I don’t have it in me to feel upset for long periods of time in the name of information sharing.
And it was just getting interesting in that hot steamy scene lol No cliffhanger.
I knew it, what some of Erins secrets were, I’m glad she’s been able to talk about them and she’s finally getting her life back, fresh start didn’t start off well but she’s a fighter, she gets knocked down but she come back.
I really am glad I took a chance on this story, it’s just getting better, I haven’t been able to put both books down and I really wish book 3 was ready now
