Storytelling is my passion. Whether those stories come in the form of books, scripts, or podcasts, I love to tell them!
A recent graduate of the UCLA screenwriting program, my goal is to one day have my stories told on the screen. Until that day, you can find my stories in book form. Check out the first two installments of my superhero fantasy series, Trouble in the Floating City and Project Vortex!
Exciting science fiction mixed with superhero powers and good world building Kano is the adopted son of Yuchi and knows that he is special and he also knows that he is supposed to keep his powers hidden from the rest of the galaxy. But with his adopted Nurrano brother looking for trouble things don't stay the same way. Starting on that premise the story builds on the Shantima which is to take place the next day and almost immediately brings in the villain(?) of the story. The prologue mentions the death of two scientists and their connection with Kano and how he ends up in the floating city. What starts off as a race to save his adopted brother turns into a dangerous adventure touching upon the past present of the floating city but the galaxy as well. Hendricks was a very well written character as his motives remained unclear till the very end. Nobaro was also a very interestingly etched character. The story switches between Junior and Kano in a cliffhanger giving the whole story of the aftermath of the Shantima. The world building, the description of the floating city, the war in the past and how it brought to the present day galaxy was interesting to read about. Taranis, his motives, the Zoboras and the three kings of the past and the trickster god as the source of the superpowers was a very interesting touch. The action was very well written and I also enjoyed the banter between the characters And how Kano realizes his part in the story. The story was built such that the readers are unable to easily make out who is a friend or a traitor who can be trusted and that is another enjoyable part in reading it. The story ended in a cliffhanger paving way for the next book Exciting science fiction with good superhero powers mix excellent characters. Good read
My nugs, I loved Trouble in the Floating City because Michael Ciccarelli-Walsh wasn't afraid to push the bounds of what we know of Superhero and Young Adult novels. With his robust characters, well planned supporting characters, and exceptional setting, you'll find that you won't want to put this book down until it ends. I still think about the characters and the story almost a month after finishing it.Trouble in the Floating City was another novel that took me by surprise. Not that I'd expected anything bad, but I'd been reading a lot of YA novels and got kind of burnt out. Micheal really freshened up the YA and Superhero genres with Trouble in the floating City. This novel came to my attention a few months back and I've been holding off on the review until it drew closer to the release date of the sequel.
A fun and rollicking space adventure, Trouble in the Floating City is an original spin on superheroes in space. Author Michael Ciccarelli-Walsh writes with passion and has a flair for action sequences. The plot is full of mysteries, chase scenes, and colorful characters, and the pace of the narrative is pretty breakneck (especially some of the final chapters). While every debut novel has places where it's a bit rough around the edges, I throughly enjoyed my experience reading the book! I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys fast-paced action adventure stories with a dash of humor.
