La idea era darme un break de tanto animal mitológico con alguna fantasía realista. No se suponía q tenía q ser complicado. Algo fácil de leer, ya saben, viejo y predecible romance histórico de regencia. Al principio creí q estaba tan liada con la mitología q el problema era yo, pero después ya tuve q darlo por perdido y es que cuando te plantean una historia donde los protagonistas se llaman Azrael y Cleopatra y están involucrados misteriosos objetos robados de tumbas de la antigüedad una tiene ciertas expectativas.
Pero lastimosamente, se quedó en eso, en expectativas. La historia pudo ser buena pero no lo logra. Es lenta, completamente lineal y llena de clichés. Ni siquiera las escenas románticas son románticas y ni Cleo ni Angel terminan de convencer como pareja y como personaje individual; y es que las historias amor-odio solo convencen si x lo menos no se han tirado algunas cosas a la cabeza entre sí. Quiere haber suspenso, pero falta totalmente y ni siquiera los personajes secundarios son suficientes para darle algo de interes. Y es una lástima porque tanto la historia como los personajes pintaban con potencial pero se ha quedado ahí. De hecho, hay un montón de historias potenciales q no se llegan a desarrollar y el final....en serio....eso...así...????
Como dije, después de una larga lista de historias mitológicas solo quería un poco de relax de la mano de la fantasía realista, pero está visto que no elegí muy bien. C´est la vie

Cleopatra Fraser is an independent woman. Her historian father raised her in Egypt and Greece ? and paid far more attention to his search for Alexander the Great's tomb than he did to her. Now, the family is in Scotland, where her father plans to unveil Alexander-related artifacts at the opening of a new museum.

Enter A. David Evans. The 'A' stands for Azrael, but Cleo always called him Angel. She made love to him once, when she was 16, and he was working for her father. She believed Angel was leaving Egypt for America, and she'd never see him again. Instead, he remained in the Middle East, a rival for the Alexandrian treasures sought by her father. Even worse, Cleo believes Angel is a grave robber.

Cleo is 26 now and helping her father prepare for an academic conference on antiquities and the opening of the museum. She can't believe it when Angel arrives for the big event. The two clash every time they meet, but they also can't stop thinking of each other or the fabled Alexandrian treasure ? which Cleo has and Angel wants. A third party wants it, too, a secret sect that has enlisted Angel's aid to steal the treasure ? by threatening Cleo's life.

Author Susan Sizemore has woven a terrific yarn, well thought out and action-packed. She effectively uses the characters' memories in flashbacks, showing us the deepening of their relationship over the 10 years they knew ? and mostly hated ? each other. Her writing is also very visual; reading this book is almost like watching a movie. You know Cleo and Angel have to get together in the end, but Sizemore leaves us wondering until the very last page how Cleo and Angel will overcome everything that's against them in time for a happy ending.

I started this book because it sounded like a fun adventure with hero/heroine snapping at each other all the time to hide a deeper feeling, and the promise of lost treasure to be found. Even the author described it as Indiana Jones in Scotland.

Unfortunately, this book did not engage me in the least. I gave it 150 pages then put it aside. There was alot of exposition at the beginning then one boring scenario after another followed. Even those exchanges between hero/heroine I'd described as a 'big whoop', rather than engaging banter. And for the same reason over and over and over...

I'm sorry to say that I didn't get far enough into the book to witness the Indiana Jonesness of the hero because for what I read, it was all talk, talk, talk... and I found my eyes glazing over with every page.
