If you enjoyed the poignant narrative of Jodi Picoult's My Sister's Keeper and the suspense of Laura Dave's The Last Thing He Told Me, you will love the riveting tale of faith, hope, and resilience in Veronica Mixon's Three Faces in the Mirror.

Three Faces in the Mirror is an incredible book written by Veronica Mixon. Ms Mixon is perhaps one of the most gifted story tellers that I have had the opportunity to read. She is able to weave a story like an artist, weaves a tapestry. Each intricate line is carefully gathered and stitched into the story. As the pattern develops you begin to see the design, but she leaves a few strings unpulled as she goes, but she hints at what the picture on the tapestry will be. As a reader you are sure you know what that pattern will be but then Mixon adds a new thread and you know the picture you had formed was wrong. By the end of the novel Mixon has pulled all the threads together and you as the reader will know how the story was developed. I have to tell you that I was absolutely captivated. This book drew me in from the very first page and I admit I had a very difficult time putting it down. I can not recommend a book and author more highly. I intend to read more novels by this author. I received this novel through BookFunnel. This is my true and honest review
Veronica Mixon has become one of my go-to authors when I need to read a great book, one that grabs me early-on, gives me great characters that she develops well, and takes me on an amazing journey. Three Faces in the Mirror is another example of her great work.
The two worlds of women collide in amazing ways. The shift between Ivy and Willa's point of views is flawless, and doesn't jolt the reader out of the story. Each point of view is distinct. Both have to summon the courage to own up to their pasts after a traumatic event built up over the beginning of the story. The trauma approaches, filling the reader with dread, but leaving the actual catalyst a mystery until the event happens. A deeper understanding of the women is woven as time passes. Willa's past is shrouded well, but is revealed at a steady pace without an information overload. Ivy is forced to face her dark past and discard her perfect world in order to do the right thing. It's easy to see how each sees the world. I was initially enveloped into this novel because I discovered I have two half-brothers given up for adoption when my mother was very young. The author creates empathy for both characters flawlessly. Disbelief hit me as I spent hours enchanted by the prose and deep plot. Definitely one I will recommend to others. All the loose ends are tied together in a wonderful package. It is a beautiful and heartbreaking novel I never knew I wanted in my life.
This is a novel for fans of thrillers, crime drama and those intrigued by the concept of what happens to those who are given up for adoption.
A really interesting concept and I did like the characters, especially Willa. I thought her story was just so sad and heartbreaking. You really feel for her as a character. What I didn’t like was how repetitive the writing was overall, as well as how quickly Ivy started calling Willa pet names. I also didn’t like that you don’t definitively learn what actually happened to the man Willa and Ryder killed. It was set up as a turning point in Willa’s life and her relationship with Ryder and there’s a moment when you think Willa did actually kill him, but you don’t learn for sure and it just seems like the author kind of forgot. For an event that major I think you need a confirmation.

This is the third book I have read by Veronica Mixon. I loved them all. At first It seemed like the books all began very slowly and I was tempted to stop reading, but they all seemed to be laying out the background and quickly picked up the pace and the excitement. I believe this is Ms. Mixon's style so I continue on. I am not disappointed. The Three Faces in the Mirror, was about an 18 year old pregnant orphan, who has spent her life in foster care and has encountered trouble along the way. She finally has a lead on who her biological mother is and where she lives. She heads out to find what she hopes will be a welcoming family. Before she has a chance to meet her mom, trouble finds her again and this time it involves her "new family." Will she end up with the family she has dreamed of or in prison? If you don't read anything else, read this. You won't be sorry.
I really enjoyed this book. I love learning about stories of adoption. Although sometimes it is done without the consent of the minor it can still have good as well as unfortunate outcomes. This is a story where a mom who was forced to place her baby for adoption at a young age is later found by her child who wants to meet her. The mom has begun a new life & isn't sure she wants to resurrect her past. In fact she hasn't told her husband that she has another child. In this story he as first is upset. Accuses her of not being honest. She didn't plan any of this & so I find it a bit unnerving that he gets mad at her. Nonetheless through lots of twists & turns there is a good outcome. There is also tragedy in the midst of everything. That is true in real life as well. Thank you Veronica. I was very intrigued by this story!
This is a fantastic read in my point of view, a twist that set me reeling and a story line to hook you line and sinker.
So yesi loved this novel it was a bit from page one, characters that stood the test and wrapped you into their own story, Ivy and Willa plus Abby are the 3 standout characters. But there are more that you can buy into but I'll let you find them for yourself. Would I give this as a gift absolutely a good test of if you believe in a novel or not. I think Veronica is an excellent author I've loved every book of hers I've read the are engrossing full of intrigue and believable characters that you want to get behind.
I can't recommend this book highly enough or her other novels they are amazing. I hope You enjoy, I did.
Three lives, inexorably linked are on a collision course that has devastating consequences. As the story unfolded, I was immediately invested in the lives of each character. I wanted their hopes to be fulfilled and that the “good and bad that fate handed” them would in the end, all work out for the best. My visceral responses to the story served to highlight the author’s mastery in storytelling. The author writes; “Making your mark in the world, learning to give and receive the right kind of love—that's on you.” and this is the underlying ethos as each character deals with the fateful tragedy.
This story hooks you from the very beginning. Willa Elliot, who has been in the foster system for her whole life, sets out to find her birth mother, and hopefully, a family to belong to after DNA testing points her to an uncle. She is thwarted by the family's wanting to keep past secrets buried, but Willa is determined to find a way to meet and bond with her mother and a newly discovered younger sister . It is a tale fraught with emotions, fears and missteps that keep you enthralled. I received a free ARC copy of the book for an honest review.
Very interesting book told from the views of two women facing a tragedy. Ivy lost her 6 year old daughter due to the actions of Willa, who took her on a jet ski ride. Was it an accident as Willa claimed, or a murder? Questions come from Ivy and her husband, when learning Willa is Ivy's daughter given up for adoption. Did Willa kill the little girl to be the only daughter? I enjoyed this book, especially because it sometimes seems hard to tell a story that comes from two very different characters.
This is my first time reading this author and what a book to be introduced to her with! This is a brilliant read, an emotional rollercoaster that is a real page turner. Be prepared to stay rooted to your seat once you start to read this until you have finished it and then had a bit of time to reflect and fully recover from the read. Keep the tissues/Kleenex handy!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow! What a read! I downloaded this book to.my Kindle months ago, then forgot about it. Then I came across a review and remembered that I had it. And it didn't disappoint. Willa is a foster child who just turned 18, and discovered she's pregnant. Being pregnant makes her want to find her birth mother. A chance DNA hit on Ancestry.com reveals a close relative. The story takes off from there as Willa, Ivy and Abby are on a collision course that breaks many hearts. Good quick read!
I love it when a book grabs me right away. There were parts of the book when I just couldn’t put it down. One night I made myself put it down at midnight. Sometimes I listen to myself, and sometimes I don’t. The story is heartwarming, heartbreaking and so real. There is a lot of current events in this book, the controversy talk between abortion and adoption. No matter how you feel you will find pros and cons you can agree with. I will be reading other books by this author.
This was the first book I have read in a long time in one sitting. It was so sad but I couldn't stop reading in order to find out how Willa would overcome all the obstacles in her way to a better life for herself and her baby. I never doubted she would. I like happy endings so am glad the author decided to give us one after breaking our hearts. I would recommend this book.
Three Faces in the Mirror is filled with so much sadness! Ivy's family forces her to give up a daughter she had when barely 15 years old. She thought all was well with the adoption, but 18 years later, she was forced to accept the daughter she gave up after many tears and heartache. This is the first book I've read by Veronica Mixen, I'm looking forward to reading many more. This book sucked me in, and I could not put it down.
One day read...telling the story of Willa an 18 year old and her search for her birth mother and her life in foster care. Willa does DNA testing and identifies an uncle. She then pieces together who her mother surely is and travels to Savannah in an attempt to meet her. Ivy, her birth mother has hidden this piece of her life from her husband. Tragedy follows both Willa and Ivy throughout the story but ends on a truly positive note for both!
A well written story of an adopted teen in search of her birth mother. She finds her & discovers that she has a 6 year old half sister. She maneuvers a job at a tennis camp to get near her sister and makes a bad decision to take her jet skiing with some friends. Her sister drowns and her birth mother, who she has yet to meet, gets involved in her legal process when she is charged with murder.
I really enjoyed this book. The ups and downs both. Excellent characters showing honest feelings of real people who may be going through this type of situation. The women are strong but vulnerable at the same time. This is the best book yet that I have read by this author and look forward to reading more.
I loved this book! It held my attention at the first paragraph and did not Let go! Loved the story line and really it just was a great book. Having been someone that lost a child, I could relate. So glad Willa was able to have her family even the heart ache that the family went through!
When I started this book I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. As I read the story, it drew me in. The tale of adoption, foster families, a search for parents and an accident, kept me reading as I fell in love with the characters and hoped for a acceptable ending.
I started this book before going to bed and now it is daylight. I loved the strength of the female characters . Willa’s focus on doing her best in spite of the challenges she faced. The ending was everything I could have wished for. I can’t wait to read Irene this author.
deviation from the rather dark and morose books I've been reading lately. There were a number of times I wanted to yell NONONO, but realized Willa was young and I would have likely done the same things out of lack of forethought.
I liked that the book was neither all roses, smiles and understanding and also that it left room for hope.
I could not put this book down. I loved the strength of these women! The statement in the final chapter about sitting with your grief to come to some sort of understanding was priceless. This book was a heartbreaking, yet wonderful story of flawed but good people.
I know it's not a word! Started this book at 4pm and could not put my tablet down....had to finish this one and so glad I did! Easy reading, thought provoking story of loss, tragedy, heartbreak, risk and reward. As the parent of an adopted child - no Words but lots.of emotions
Absolutely fabulous story regarding a unwanted birth adoption lost and then being found. Willa was adopted and two years after her adopted parents died she went into the foster system in Wyoming. At 18 Willa wanted to know who her birth parents were …she began her search. X
I love, love, loved this book. And I wonder, how many tears did Veronica shed while writing it. It was more, much more, than writing a very interesting book about a group of fictional characters. Veronica made them become real people. People you might have known. Worth every minute of my time. Thanks Veronica.
This book was hard to put down, loved the storyline and all the characters. The author draws you into the world of Willa, a foster child with a hard upbringing looking for a family she’s craved her whole life. Can’t wait to find another book she’s written!!!!
This was a very unique storyline about women, their offspring, giving children for adoption at birth, finding your birth parent, and a whole bunch of other interesting topics. Definitely recommend.
