Komoreby

A quirky Asian high school story fused with sci-fi, romance and mystery

....

Komoreby is the metropolis of the future—an eco-city brimming with stylish urban life, where dreams are forged into reality. It's everything Evanna Zeller's quiet, old town was not.

Nerdy in mind and whimsical at heart, Evanna is a lonely girl with dreams far bigger than herself. She's darkly inclined with sunshiny kawaii, and she's herbivorous with a taste for video game blood. Evanna's adventure of a lifetime is her move to Komoreby, where she reunites with her childhood bestie at the city's most prestigious high school. When she expects a brilliant new start, pranks and betrayals sink the very first day to rock bottom. As if that isn't bad enough, a school tour of the city's high energy physics lab, home to a gargantuan particle collider, takes a bizarre turn.

Now she's trapped in a parallel universe of draconian rules and warped versions of everyone. As she spins down a rabbit hole of mind-boggling quantum physics, can she find her way home through the murk of the unknown? All the while weaving through a social web of potential friends, foes and a mysterious rocker guy she's relentlessly drawn to.

....

Shortlisted for the WATTY AWARDS 2022

This tale is loosely a sci-fi Alice in Wonderland. The strict school in the parallel universe is based on real Asian schools. The ban on romance, classroom raids and shadow education are real. Expect shoujo/kdrama vibes, slowburn ship, gaming (MMORPG), rock music, real science and veganism.

Totally awesome book! Quite the page turner! More so if you're into physics stuff. And what an ending! Can't wait for the sequel!

This book had so many dimensions to it that I enjoyed!

The hard science and respect to it in the world building, it's really well thought out and really pays off when the plot surfaces. It's so great to see some of these concepts showcased in a very easy to understand way for young readers! The MMO references, the challenges of the vegan protagonist and the setting were all relatable and felt familiar. The pacing is great, the characters are interesting.

I honestly wasn't expecting this much from a young adult book, I can't wait for more!

I found Komoreby to be a fun read. It kept me entertained with comedy, thriller aspects and a world I wanted to read about more. I found it when I was looking for a novel with a vegan protagonist to read about and I got just what I wanted - Evanna! It's hard for me to put into words, but it feels good to be able to trust a character based on how they feel about other animals. Thank you for the good read, Su Vida. I want the sequel!

It was a Wattpad book and that pretty much is all you need to know. Written like a self-insert fanfic for every teenage weeb. I know, I was one. It’s cringey at best and there’s not a whole lot going for the plot.
