Train yourself in godliness. For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. —1 Timothy 4:7b–8
What are spiritual disciplines? More than activities or monastic rituals, they are opportunities for engaging with God in response to the new life we have in Him. In this four-week reading plan, we will explore a variety of Christian practices modeled by the people of God and taught by Jesus and His disciples in Scripture. Join us as we learn what it means for new and mature believers alike to intentionally seek God’s presence.
She Reads Truth is a worldwide community of women who read God's Word together every day. Founded in 2012, She Reads Truth invites women of all ages to engage Scripture through curated daily reading plans, as well as online conversation led by a vibrant community of contributing writers. This community of “Women in the Word of God every day” represents a long list of cities and countries, a variety of backgrounds and traditions, and countless real-life stories. But there is a commonality that binds us: we believe God's Word is Truth. So we read. Every day we read a new passage together—working our way through books of the Bible, topics that matter, and seasons of the Church calendar. We engage with God's Word and with each other. And we keep coming back, on the hard days and the good days, because God and His Word never change, regardless of our circumstances.
I really enjoyed the beautifully designed aesthetic of this book and will likely consider other studies from She Reads Truth in the future. However, I'll probably stick to expository topics rather than topical studies. I was often puzzled by the verses that were selected to support the highlighted disciplines, which made it difficult to glean much from certain topics.
This is a simplistic but well done Bible study on various practices of faith in action. The content is scriptures (provided in book so do not need to tote Bible with you) and basic reflection questions. They don’t tell you want to think; instead they guide you through looking at various ways the Bible shows you to practice faith. As always She Reads Truth does a beautiful graphic design job putting words & images together.
I definitely didn’t stick to the 4-week timeline with this one. My first She Reads Truth/He Reads Truth book study with Jim. We enjoyed it, but it seemed monotonous with the same questions after each section. Not any extra info or questions other than the same standard ones after each discipline. I expected more.
This is definitely a top 3 study for me. I found it really helpful and eye opening from the different practices that were included in the study, and being prompted to consider how Jesus taught them and they were modelled in Scripture. The podcasts for this study were also exceptional accompaniment
I loved this little devotional. We studied different disciplines such as study, fellowship, prayer, obedience, service, meditation &memorization, fasting, sabbath, lament, celebration, worship, confession, giving, solitude, submission, silence, chastity, remembrance, and simplicity.
I have really enjoyed studying spiritual disciplines all month. The ones I’m focusing on are prayer, Sabbath, silence (quieting my heart), and submission (to God’s will).
I loved learning about the different types of spiritual disciplines, there is something for everyone and every season of life. Some are more manageable for daily discipline while others could take some preparation and more focus. Everything was straight out of scripture; I did appreciate the coordinating devotionals in the app.
