Dan Jurgens is an American comic book writer and artist. He is known for his work on the DC comic book storyline "The Death of Superman" and for creating characters such as Doomsday, Hank Henshaw, and Booster Gold. Jurgens had a lengthy run on the Superman comic books including The Adventures of Superman, Superman vol. 2 and Action Comics. At Marvel, Jurgens worked on series such as Captain America, The Sensational Spider-Man and was the writer on Thor for six years. He also had a brief run as writer and artist on Solar for Valiant Comics in 1995.
A really solid run on Cap ! I love it when a writer also does the artwork and Dan Jurgens draws and writes a cool Cap. This is nothing world shattering or world breaking, but its just a very cool run. Andy Kubert also does some artwork and his work is amazing aswell. I went in totally blind with this one, but was just surprised how easy going and fun it was.
But this series ended in one of the most baffling ways. In a story not by Dan Jurgens, Captain America fights a death cult dressed like the Red Skull and dies in a nuclear blast. They then spend page after page of people reacting to his passing, followed by his funeral. AND THEN THIS IS NEVER REFERENCED AGAIN IN ANY MARVEL COMIC! This is never stated to be out of continuity, but it must be. Just a weird, downer of an ending. Maybe this was a reaction to 9/11?
