I went in expecting a juicy revenge arc to savor, but that wrapped up faster than I could say, "Off with his head!" Instead, the story quickly shifted into the "I’m the new empress now, bow down" phase, which was just as entertaining but left me craving a little more drama.
At just 70 chapters, the manhwa felt bittersweetly short. I was really hoping Roxane would pop back up for one last round of chaos before Bell finished her off for good—or that Arnoah’s trash ex-husband would come crawling back, begging for forgiveness. (Would it be petty to demand a bonus chapter of his miserable, post-divorce life? Maybe. Do I care? Not at all. 😏)
That said, this was a lovely little read! The art was gorgeous, the pacing kept things moving, and despite my thirst for more pettiness, the story was satisfying.
This is the manhwa, “I Want to Become the Emperor, so I Need a Divorce”.
The manhwa story was well paced and was able to both capture and keep my attention. It was really entertaining and is great if you want to turn your brain off. However, if you’re looking for complex characters, this is not it. The characters are fairly one-note. Both the ex-husband and his mistress are naive and selfish. Anakin, the female lead’s advisor, is loyal. The male lead likes to show a lot of skin and liked the female lead from the beginning. The main villain, the archduchess, uses fairly simple and predictable attacks against the female lead, and only shows 1 emotion, a self-serving and angry person. The most well-rounded character is a side character who is a high-ranking noble and the leader among the older generation of high society. She is initially only shown to be self-serving, but we later see that she is only like that to make sure that when she dies, she leaves her family in the best possible state that she could do for them. We are able to see how much her chaotic family loves each other. We also see her go to the female lead’s side after the female lead shows how smart she is and saves the noble’s life. Also, I really wish we saw more of the doctor. After the first arc, she was practically never seen from again.
Season 1: (Chapters 1~40) Season 2: (Chapters 41~70)
Revenge is sweet. Divorce? Even sweeter. Arnoa is trapped in a loveless marriage in which she has sacrificed both her heart and dignity. In the midst of such matrimonial misery, she receives the chance to claim the Empire as her own. There's just one catch: she needs a divorce to make it happen! Will she succeed in getting the last laugh? [x]
Cortito y preciso, con el drama más que suficiente.
Me hubiese gustado saber que pasaba con el cucaracho ya que le dieron tanto énfasis al principio. Quitaron y cambiaron bastante cosas de la novela, pero aún así, buen manhwa.
